That seems encouraging, but I'm curious why Iran isn't considered a warm country?''

Their growth rate has leveled off substantially though.

Iran has several mountain ranges so you have mild/cool weather over a large part of the country.

With Italy passing China for deaths that is more proof China has been lying the entire time on their numbers. Higher population and had it for longer.

I have said it in the past, the southern states will start to level off before the northern ones.

It is not for very long but we will be around 85F for 3 days next week, wonder if we will see any drop due to the higher temps.

What will rule #s for the forseeable future in the United States is testing. That's it.

Italy just reported numbers, and they aren't good:

New confirmed cases have increased another 10% day-over-day, and death totals up 25% from previous day too.

Unless their lockdown stuff doesn't show immediate effects in the next 4-5 days, they'll be at 1k dead/day pretty soon.
That's down from the 20% increase that most have

I think that's just random variation, unfortunately.

Two days ago they had 4200 daily cases, and now almost 6000. That's an average of 20% daily growth

Yeah, I looked up the cities that have been hit hardest in Iran, and temps are all in the 50s and 60s.

just curious, but how many deaths are coming out of Lombardy now as opposed to the rest of the country?

a death is a death, but if Lombardy isn't showing cessation by now, that's clearly more concerning (since they've been locked down longer)

I'm not going to leave that one up. Staff has a hard-on for me on a normal day. That would get me a week.

The chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has announced the government will pay the wages of British workers to keep them in jobs as the coronavirus outbreak escalates.

In an unprecedented step, Sunak said the state would pay grants covering up to 80% of the salary of workers kept on by companies, up to a total of 2,500 per month, just above the median income.

This is a interesting way to go about this. The UK government will pay people's salaries working in private businesses to help prevent people from losing their jobs.

The US is trying to do that too, Revenue replacement instead of unemployment. In the end probably more efficient.

So let the blame game begin. Libs will blame Trump. Of course, maybe I missed it but I only saw dems interested in impeachment and not coronavirus tests.

I personally do not think it is anyone's fault. Except the Chi coms unleashing this crap on the world. And remember Trump was called a racist for limiting travel with China and actually that will turn out to be brilliant.

Hind sight is always 20/20.

Maybe you guys are fine with Italy sending us 500,000 swabs and China's richest man sending over 1,000,000 testing kits and PPE or whatever and chalk all of this up to dumb luck that other countries were incredibly more prepared than the United States.

Seems like a strange stance to me when our CDC refused the WHO test which was perfectly ok for the rest of the world and then crapped the bed with their own test 6 weeks ago thereby making it impossible for us to follow the South Korea model.

I am not saying who is at fault but I think it's obvious we screwed up and were not as prepared as multiple other countries. And we will pay a price in lives needlessly lost.

We had a good solid month head start on this and because we couldn't test it didn't do us much good.

I think your premise that the government is competent and will protect us might be where you got confused.

I think it's sad that you surrender our competence and just concede that other countries like South Korea are that much better and that's the way it has to be.

Tried, but I can't find that information easily. Lombardi as of today has 22,264 overall infected (15,420 currently sick cases), and 2,549 deaths. We can check back tomorrow and see how their growth rates compare to the rest of the country.

Their response had everything to do with being prepared after the SARS outbreak.

And yes, they need to be a little more on their toes for novel viruses being next to China who is the world's biggest exporter of those.

I think most of China use their phone for everything including payments (similar to Apple pay) and rarely use cash/cards. They use their phones for health and tracking as well. Not that easy to start over again in China so the quick assumption is they died but requires more investigation.

We know they lied but to what extent?

The city of Wuhan held a banquet for 100,000 people with shared plates near the epicenter of the outbreak on January 18.
If you missed this video from 1/29 you should watch it. It comes from an American who lives in China and has Youtube vlog channel (now non-monetized) where he offers pretty honest and sometimes scathing critique of life in China. Laowhy86 has been in China for 10 years and is married to a Chinese wife with 2 small children.

This video provides more detail on the month of January and how China CCP reacted to the early outbreak.
