My guess is the Kingwood/Humble retail spaces aren't typically packed at 2PM on a Thursday. People are out buying up stuff because they're scared. I was at HEB around 1 and it was 3x worse than a normal Thursday around that time.

People are starting to stock up, or downright panic buying. Not anywhere near pre-Hurricane levels yet, but wouldn't surprise me if it gets there. Grocery stores are gonna be a nightmare this weekend.

I've been getting WHO data from their daily situation reports and creating my own "US plots". For the data geeks out there this is the best source I've found of documented iterative data to pull from. Interestingly, the numbers here are always lower than what I see online. For instance, yesterday the US was supposed to have surpassed 1000 infected, but the number reported was 696. I figured that maybe their a day late, but then today it is reported to be 987...still not over 1000.

I'm not certain if that is really meaningful but what may be more impactfull is the continued exponential growth of the numbers in their data. The slope of the US numbers is still growing (positive) and we have yet to hit the inflection point slowing down the rate of spread. Today we're sitting at about a 1.4 multiplier...meaning that I'd expect tomorrow to see about 1400 cases. If that rate continued (as it has for the past 3 days) on 3/19/20 my trend would show 10,000 cases.

With the cancellation of mass gathered events recently I'm curious to see how these numbers then play out from this point forward. I'm just an excel nerd and find this stuff really interesting...carry on.

For the first time, I am relieved my Mom has passed. Were she still alive, she would be freaking the hell out, between the stock market and the virus, she would have been in full meltdown, with or without her dementia.

I would also likely be hearing a million, "I told you so's" about the dangers of China and a second Great Depression looming.

That would have been my grandmother if she was still alive.

I wish both my parents would show even a little concern for it. Not the hysteria I find so appalling, but enough concern to be prepared should there be any disruptions or even mandatory quarantines.
