I too have been wondering this.UncoverAg00 said:
I may be way behind, but I read somewhere that the CDC admitted to an oversight commitee that they have found people who died months ago here in the states died of CV... but it was attributed to flu. If true, it makes me wonder. My wife had pneumonia at the beginning of January and tested negative for flu. I ended up getting sick too and would sometimes be so short on breath that it would panic me a little. Was a dry cough and I resorted to using inhalers to help. It took a couple of weeks to kick it. I'm not claiming to have had CV, but it certainly makes me wonder.
I had something in January-early February with a really long dry cough that wouldn't quit. I have no clue what it was but this went on for a good 6 weeks or so before it was completely goneUncoverAg00 said:

I went to the doctor and tested negative for flu, but they diagnosed me with viral pneumonia. I thought that was odd for someone my age and figured I should not let a cough go so long again before seeing my doctor. About the time Brazos County was testing the potential case, my 4 children and I developed a weird flu...wasn't the normal flu and we stayed home for the week. Doctor said type B flu but didn't test.
All fine now.
Seems to me that it is absolutely possible if not likely that many people have had this in the US since as far back as the 1st of the year.
There you go. People are starting to get it. I've been harping from the get go the number of cases is exponentially higher. This is a positive. Likely a lot of people already have had this run through them and thus mortality rate and % of serious conditions is much less than expected.
The bad news is we didn't even see it coming and as others have said it's a multiplier effect on top of other *****

I certainly don't assume I had this virus but I wonder what they would of found if they actually tested me for something other than the flu.
I had a similar illness about 4 years ago. My brother-in-law caught it, also. It took us about 6 weeks to get rid of the cough.Killin Me Smalls said:
Same thing here. Traveled internationally in Dec/Jan. Got home. I swore I had the flu. Negative for both flu and strep. Steroid shot had me feeling better, but I could not shake the cough for a few weeks. My wife and kids both had a something similar.
I agree with you. I do not have the background in infectious disease to think I know better than the professionals. I have just never experienced being sick for that length of time while testing negative for flu and strep. Makes me wonder what actually caused it.cisgenderedAggie said:TxAg82 said:I am in my mid 30s and otherwise healthy. I caught a cough and chest congestion in November/December that I could not shake. I'm going to go on record of being skeptical that this has been in the US since December. There's pretty strong data from viral genome sequencing that connects most of the studies samples as descending from common sources in Wuhan, with likely start of human infection in early-mid December. If it were widespread globally by early January, that would be imply that the genetic phylogenetic studies that have been published over the last six weeks are the result of some analytical artifact. That would be extraordinarily unlikely.
I think it's much more likely that what's reported is true. That it originated in Wuhan in late 2019, spread like wildfire locally, with small numbers of infected slowly matriculating it to new locations. It was likely loose here in the US by mid January, with additional seeding occurring throughout February, and spreading through communities with domestic travel the whole time. It's gone unnoticed because we haven't been testing for it robustly since even today.
Much earlier? I thought it was a week earlier, at least in the Washington nursing home cluster. Has their been more prior deaths tested?UncoverAg00 said:
I'm not claiming to have had CV, but apparently folks died much earlier here in the states than most realize. It's just interesting... and nothing more because nothing more can be proven. It could very well be coincidence I got sick with something that can be described in a similar fashion.

Regardless, genetic testing and math stand against the claim that it has been spreading widely before mid February. It would also have to be MUCH more contagious than the flu to do so.
If there's evidence beyond the anecdotal to support this, I'd like to see it.

Fact. Was anyone else at A&M when Hurricane Rita was heading for the coast? After Katrina everyone's parents flipped out, and they all sent us money for "groceries." We threw a couple of the best parties of my life, and even crowned a Miss. Rita pageant winner over the course of the weekend.Fredd said:

My wife and I got some sort of fever, followed by cold/cough at the end of a weeks trip to Disney in Orlando mid January. Cough last a long while. Also noticed that February was very rough on the office, but it seemed like people had various bad things.Stasco said:The Fife said:I had something in January-early February with a really long dry cough that wouldn't quit. I had that too. And my wife, and my parents, and a lot of my coworkers. It wasn't coronavirus. Most likely just another strain of rhinovirus that made its way around.
Oh I don't think they've missed it. Just wondering if their numbers are just not being reported, or if they have done something different to delay the virus spreading in their country.PJYoung said:tsuag10 said:tsuag10 said:
Sorry if already discussed, but how the hell is India staying relatively out of all this? Lock down all borders, airports, trains?
Ok same question for Russia.
I'm assuming they locked everything down very fast, and then anyone who has a cough gets shipped to Siberia??
I think it's extremely naive to think India and Russia have somehow missed this.

We had a Rita's for Rita party and it was awesome! We did suffer a broken window but not because of wind.... good times!TacosaurusRex said:Fact.
