Some thing that I noticed cruising around in the Johns Hopkins tracker is the length of time from diagnosis to recovery. Seems to be in excess of 10 days in most cases. I've been knocked out by the flu for maybe 1 or 2 days, but I dont think I've ever been out for 3 consecutive days in a row my entire life (for work or school).

Then I'm not sure you've had The Flu. I was fortunate enough to have it during Christmas break my 3rd year at A&M. Came home for Christmas. A couple of days later couldn't move. Super high fever. Waited a day, gathered enough strength to drive back to cs. Turns out my boyfriend and his roommates had it as well. We slept for the next 5 days. This would've been '93/'94. I haven't had it since and don't want to. I also don't get flu shots.

I've been following this thing and this thread from the beginning but the one data set that I occasionally see referenced in articles and often unsourced by individual posters is the statistical breakdown of the deaths by age. There is one study that was done based on Feb. 11th data and that is what I still see referenced.

Has there been ANY data released since Feb 11th available on this? Most of the claims I see are still based on this, when on that date most of the cases were extremely early in the timeline (several studies have severe cases at 2-8 weeks) and most severe ones had not played out.

Even the "average age of those who have died in Italy is 81" that keeps getting quoted off a local article in Italy is unsourced and I can't find that data. For those who are tracking this much closer than me, have you seen any detailed breakdowns or even just access to raw data that would include this?

Not much, no. The really large case study of 72,000 in China had median for all at 47 and median for severe/critical at 51.

Median age in China is 38. So even those presenting are skewed older, severe even more so.

Unfortunately for most on this board, the highest impacted population will most likely be higher socioeconomic classes as the initial US cases are travel related and will likely spread from there.

It was from the big outbreak in Wuhan.

I haven't seen any large studies since, been searching.

Actually it seems like the publications have slowed down or shifted from broader studies to more focused ones.

Wonder if we will see the same issues China had with their health care people in Italy. You can't push yourself that hard for that long and remain healthy.

Because the Vegas media/police/government are in the pockets of the casinos and they underreport all negative events so as to not deter tourism.

That's what Dr Gottlieb said last Sunday - death is usually 10 days after showing symptoms and to watch SK because at the time most of their cases had recently been diagnosed. He said to watch and see what happens in about 5-10 days and that's where we are.

There are a lot of companies working on both vaccines (longer term solutions) and anti viral treatments which help keep the virus from being so severe as well as shorten the duration time someone has it. Sounds like some good progress is being made, plasma treatment using antibodies from those who had it and recovered may be one of the better options... it's going to take a lot of companies working on this but I think they will have some good therapeutic options soon. Many of the antiviral drugs (developed for things like HIV) are being officially tested now, they should have data real soon, possibly earLy next week on some of them.

This is some positive news on the treatment / vaccine front

The issue is that many of the trials that are underway are scheduled to occur over 12 or 14 months..

Additionally, ramping up production of antiviral such as those used for AIDS is not going to be a quick process since many of those were made overseas. Infrastructure and supply chain have to be set up and ramped up here. And that will take a while
That's for vaccines only...vaccines can takes months to years.. however the anti virals already on the shelf are being officially tested now as well as other therapies like plasma treatment with antibodies ... this isn't months away... it's happening NOW

the real breakthroughs seem to occur in the heart of the pandemic when trials go out the window and we start throwing tons of things at the problem and seeing what works and then coming up with ex post facto reasons why

So, my wife just shows me on FB that the Japanese women's soccer team played the US women's team tonight in Frisco.

Japan is a level 2 country. No idea how long they've been stateside but this seems stupid.

You know who isn't reporting any cases of this? RUSSIANS!

I'm drinking .5 liters of vodka a day and it seems to be working so far.

All part of Putin's plan I tell ya.
