Not immediately. But yeah, it could get really freaking bad financially in the coming weeks/months.

Don't ignore what is going on in Europe. Their banking system is in worse shape than ours and all of the big banks are tied together globally. Look at the infections in France and Germany, they are following Italy's lead. IF Deutsch Bank goes down everyone goes down.

Yeah, what's up with that?
I mean, the Rodeo is starting to look ridiculous at this point.

Yep. Events with hundreds being cancelled yet rodeo has 70k 20 nights in a row. And rodeo press always bragged about how many countries were represented and how many international visitors they had but this year its just a "local" event.

"At this time"

I'll be shocked if we don't have cases in BCS once everyone gets back from spring break. Then I think we start getting cancellations here.

So no, not dead. The flu has hospitalized and killed young people.

I never claimed those 2 died. There have been numerous cases of deaths under 50 and some in their 30s.

this isn't a solvency crisis

it's a liquidity crisis

our banking system is not going down. the fed can easily print and dump cash to maintain any liquidity issues.. it is too early for companies to be reporting actual financial losses. That will be next quarter.

How much money printing are you willing to support? The loses are massive (10s of trillions) when you include the derivatives these banks hold. This is going make 2008 look like a walk in the park......

Quote:

Financial reform didn't work. Banks today are bigger and more opaque than ever, and they continue to trade in derivatives in many of the same ways they did before the crash, but on a larger scale and with precisely the same unknown risks.

Ignoring warning signs has inevitable consequences. We ignored them before and we saw what happened. We can say this with virtual certainty: if we continue as now and ignore them again, the great white shark of a global financial meltdown will gobble up the meager economic recovery and make 2008 look like a hiccup.

why would the derivatives lose money if the underlying assets are papered over?

why is this a solvency crisis?

The issue is the liquidity crisis becoming a solvency crisis. Low rates and low oil prices histrionically have helped but currently both seem to be hindering. We'll have a better idea after a couple of trading days but oil below $30, the 10-yr less than 50bps and the 30-yr at less than 100 bps is just crazy and frankly scary. As if it creating it's own negative feedback loop.

CNBC's Jim Cramer said early Monday that the collapse in oil prices and bond yields put the stock market in "uncharted waters."
"The speed and the thinness. That you could have such a monumental move in six hours is truly astounding," Cramer tweeted.
"The collapse in yields and oil is signalling an imminent recession," he added.

Couldn't happen at a worse time for Baby Boomers trying to retire. Hopefully They were properly diversified.

You can say "this is overblown", "just the flu", "more people die of xyz" but this is the outcome that really affects people, and it's real regardless of how dumb you feel about it.
