I hate to beat a dead horse (too late)... but taking a look at how many people the dude in New York infected, how can the story be that this is less contagious than the flu? I've had the flu, one of my kids has had the flu and in both cases not everyone in the house got the flu. It's pretty obvious that this thing is wicked contagious... even more so than the flu. So I'm just not yet buying that this thing is conclusively less contagious than the flu like the WHO claimed. Do you think we can expect another shift in narrative by the WHO saying "OK... you know when we said that this thing isn't as contagious as the flu. Yeah, it's way more contagious after all."

Its obviously more contagious because it's a novel strain and we dont yet have a natural immunity built up

, it's New York and no one is vaccinated. Doesn't prove it's more contagious.

It is strange. My guess is that it may be technically true but isn't working that way in reality due to being more easily spread prior to obvious symptoms. In other words, if you pack two rooms full of people and have somebody cough in one with covid and the other with the flu, maybe more people in the flu room would get sick. But because covid is more easily spread prior to symptoms it is allowing more time for spread prior to seeking treatment.

This attention whoering dad I know posted yesterday that he doesn't have the flu but has a fever and his doctors are "quarantining" him in his house.

Al these people are posting their prayers. I posted "are you honestly trying to get Coronavirus sympathy? Lol!"

I get that. What I'm saying is that given the back and forth on narrative -- its more contagious, nevermind its not, the fatality rate is probably more like flu, oh wait, it's way more deadly. It's constantly flowing. My point is, I would think it would be ****ing foolish to take what the WHO said about how contagious it is (its less contagious as the flu) as conclusive. This **** seems like faking people out pretty good based on the wavering things being said. It's breaking ankles like James Harden on a good day.

From the CDC:
Quote:

Can someone spread the virus without being sick?

* People are thought to be most contagious when they are most symptomatic (the sickest).
* Some spread might be possible before people show symptoms; there have been reports of this occurring with this new coronavirus, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

. At this point I think you have to conclude it's either not too contagious, not too deadly, or somehow self destructs.

Or that the incubation time isn't as short as we think. Viruses don't tend to self-destruct, they're surprisingly good at avoiding the immune system and just chilling.

Got to take the good with the bad. Understanding this issue is a process.

Takes all kinds of commentary for people to come to grips with this new reality.

not sure what you're looking for. At this point it has spread around the globe as expected but it's pretty slow. There is no exponential rate of confirmed cases so it will be a while before the zombie apocalypse.

Panicking about Ebola.

Maybe there's just no relevant or valuable news to discuss. Do we need to post every conference or music festival that is being canceled? Until this reaches Texas, its not going to be super relevant for most of us.

This is 24-hour news cycle talking here. There's nothing slow about this spread so far.

And you can't have confirmed cases if you aren't testing for it, which kind of seems to be CDC strategy depending on what you read.

This whole thing is laughable. How many people died of common flu this year? I'll bet my house it's more than ever dies from coronavirus in the USA.

Oh and I'd ridicule the cdc that dropped off infected people at a mall but last time I said CDC was politicized trash I was called an antivaxxer and banned by staff for being "aggressive" even tho I insulted no one and another poster called me garbage.

You know how I know you're new here........

Seriously, don't try to make this all about you and your feels.

Sack up, do some research and try to keep up with the rest of us.

It's a much bigger issue than just an infection at this point. Big changes coming to economy and society with this.
Be nice!

Especially to those who haven't been following this disease closely.

Normalcy bias is going to be very difficult to overcome for a lot of people.

You say to be nice, but you have to admit it's pretty rude to come to a thread with over 10,000 posts, and make the same tired argument that (I feel) has been soundly disproven dozens of times. I have no doubt we will continue to see this as things heat up. When people come in and don't bother to read anything about the virus other than what's of the msm it's frustrating to those who have taken the time to research and share huge amounts of excellent information like many in this thread.
Yes, it is rude. But after he posted that he didn't know there was a relationship between coronavirus and pneumonia, I felt like I was talking to a passenger on the Titanic who was laughing at the people boarding the life boats.

Most things aren't a matter of life and death. This one actually is.

Is there a source that shows the infections broken down by age group? All I read says older people are more susceptible, but what data is that based on?

The person traveled abroad recently and had just come back. Most likely should have been self-quarantined and I think to some degree was.

I didn't watch the press conference.
