Yeah I think in any of the dictatorships/communist countries that coronavirus outbreaks will use this to get rid of dissidents and subversives.

Agree that it's nothing more than pure panic by uninformed people at this point.

Currently in Texas there are exactly zero travel cases or community spread cases. The only cases are the known people that were brought into San Antonio for quarantine. There is no evidence that anyone else has been infected.

Being concerned and informed is completely understandable. Being scared and panicked is not.

This guy says vitamin C is one of the best treatments for Coronavirus and all viruses... Japanese Drs say using intravenous Vit C is very effective

I guess it can't hurt to load up on vitamin C and D right now.. which I am
Thanks for sharing that it is pretty interesting. I'm glad they are doing official placebo controlled studies in China with the megadose IV Vit C that will be awesome if it can work. The majority of that video is random case studies with no real validity or power from the last 80 years but the newer studies that are more strictly structured with standardized dosing could end up being revolutionary if it works as hoped.

Note that this is mega doses of IV Vitamin C several times a day for 5-7 days- not taking OTC supplements which have been shown to be maybe somewhat slightly helpful with normal viral URI.

It's Austin.....

Is it actually IN Austin? That tweet says people are afraid, but does not refer to cases. I may have missed another report.

My wife's company in Austin has started to only allow teleconference meetings with other offices and clients, so there are precautions being taken.
Do you mind sharing which company? Our HR department is waiting on the feds to suggest any sort of change in travel plans.

Pure panic.

I work in Austin and went to two client meetings today in the city.

Guess I must self quarantine now...

My entire team travels domestically (air travel) 6-7 times per month per person.

First and foremost, they're all good people and I'd rather not put them in a position to get this bug because we are waiting on the CDC to pull its head out of its ass on this thing. One of them has both of her elderly parents living with her who have multiple health issues. I'm scared for her and them, and she's starting to voice concerns about travel.

Second, if any one member of my team goes down with this, it's going to have a significant impact on our operations. If two or more go down with it we're in trouble.

So, I don't see it as panic. Trying to take care of my people proactively. Twitter's told everyone to work from home for March, Amazon (who we are a partner with) told all their folks on Friday to cancel non-essential domestic and international travel.

Waiting on the CDC to lead from the front on this right now is just asking for failure.

Depends on China. Xi knows everyone in the CCP is watching his moves. One slip up and he is finished, the reaction would make the 1989 protests look nice.

Synopsis: The State council of China today agrees to enact the following "six stability" work coordination mechanisms to effectively respond to the impact of the epidemic, and promote stable economic and social operations; determine measures to support the logistics and other logistics industries to alleviate difficulties and accelerate recovery and development; decide to increase local financial support and improve basic livelihoods Guarantee wages and ability to operate. These three major events were decided by the Executive Council of the State Council on March 3. What arrangements did Premier Li Keqiang make at the meeting.

1) Meticulously deploy the "six stabilizing" coordination mechanisms effectively respond to the impact of the epidemic to make arrangements for economic stability.
The meeting stated that
In accordance with the arrangements of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, to coordinate the advancement of epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development, it is necessary to increase targeted efforts to stabilize employment, finance, foreign trade, foreign investment, investment, and expected work, and to more effectively respond to the economic impact Impact of operation.
It is necessary to give full play to the role of large scale (Macro economics??? sorry) policies, foreign investment, and financial stability coordination mechanisms, promptly introduce effective and effective countermeasures, strengthen endogenous motivation, and strive to keep the economic operation of the year within a reasonable range.

2) Determine measures to support logistics and other logistics industries to alleviate difficulties and accelerate recovery and development
The meeting stated that
Promoting the logistics, transportation, and other logistics industries to accelerate resumption of work and production, and achieve stable growth, will not only can provide strong support for epidemic prevention and control, but also smooth the economic cycle and meet the needs of people's livelihood.
to this end,
1. The division and classification guide the relevant enterprises to resume work accurately and orderly, and cancel the illogical orders. Coordinate the protection of epidemic prevention materials such as masks required for resumption of work. All localities should provide non-discriminatory access to postal services and express delivery companies of all forms of ownership, promote the breaking of "100% access" traffic and delivery obstacles in rural areas and communities, and include smart delivery facilities in the construction of urban and rural public infrastructure.
2. Increase tax and fee reductions in stages. Within a certain period of time, the policy of halving the collection of urban land use tax on land for commodity storage due at the end of last year will continue. From March 1 to June 30, the port construction fee for import and export goods will be waived, the government pricing fees such as cargo port fees and port facility security fees will be reduced by 20%, and mandatory emergency response services and charges for non-tanker cargo ships will be cancelled. By the end of June, the cost of railway insured value, delayed use of containers, and detention of freight cars will be halved. Reduce charges for some government-managed airport service guarantees. For transportation and logistics enterprises that perform emergency transportation tasks during the epidemic prevention and control, if the government purchases public services, all levels of finance must provide compensation.
3. Encourage insurance companies to appropriately reduce the insurance costs of operating vehicles, ships, and aircraft that were stopped during the immunization period by extending the insurance period and deducting renewal costs. During the free passage of toll roads, if it is difficult to repay the principal and interest of the financial debt of the operating entity, the financial institution shall be guided to provide support such as deferred interest payment, principal rollover or renewal of loans. Take practical steps to benefit truck drivers from the waiver of tolls. Encourage localities to take measures such as reducing or exempting "member money" in stages to help taxi drivers through difficult times. A follow-up support guarantee policy for toll-free toll roads will be introduced as soon as possible.

3)Decided to increase local financial support and improve the ability of the basic livelihood insurance and wage insurance
The meeting stated that
Supporting the decentralized government to ensure basic people's livelihood, wages, and operation is the basic requirement to protect the vital interests of the masses, as well as the basic conditions for promoting the government to perform its duties and implement various policies.
The meeting determined that
1. Increase the local fiscal retention ratio (Literal translation: "increase the local retention and usage of local finance fluidity for development" but I am not sure what that means... anyone with econ degree?") in stages. From March 1 to the end of June, based on the approved retention rates of the provinces that were approved for the year, they were unitedly increased by 5 percentage points, and about 110 billion yuan of new retention funds were all reserved for county-level use.
2. Speed up the transfer of transfer payment funds, and guide local governments to give priority to the outbreak prevention and control and "three guarantees" (Social net, healthcare net, and environmental (?) net) payments in full and on time. Areas with gaps shall all reduce other project expenditures.
3. Further reduce general expenditures and, in addition to the need for epidemic prevention and control, follow strict scrutiny with regards to new policies increasing expenditures.

Third Doctor from Wuhan front line Hospital Dies...

  • Ophthalmologist Mei Zhongming, 57, said to have been infected after working long hours treating patients
  • He is the third doctor from the hospital to die from Covid-19

An ophthalmologist who worked with whistle-blower doctor Li Wenliang on the coronavirus front line in Wuhan has also died from Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus.

Mei Zhongming, 57, contracted the virus while he was working at the Wuhan Central Hospital and died on Tuesday.

His 34-year-old colleague Li who was silenced by police for sounding the alarm about the new virus strain also died from the pneumonia-like illness last month , prompting an outpouring of grief and anger in China.

Mei is the third doctor from the hospital to die from Covid-19. Two days ago, Jiang Xueqing, head of thyroid and breast surgery, also died from the disease at the age of 55.

The hospital expressed condolences to Mei's family and praised his 30 years of service in a brief announcement on social network WeChat.

According to the official numbers, 13 doctors and nurses have died from Covid-19 and more than 3,000 have been infected in China since the epidemic began in the central city of Wuhan in December. Hospitals in Wuhan and across the province of Hubei have been swamped with tens of thousands of patients, and health care workers treating them have also had to cope with a shortage of protective gear and medical supplies.

Part of the Wuhan Central Hospital is located just 2km (1.2 miles) from the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market the place the first coronavirus patients were linked to.

Average chinese head of departments for a medical department/ doctors lead extremely stressful lives. I knew a doctor who was head of Orthopedic surgery and saw 80 patients a day on top of having 20 residents.

It takes time to develop a reliable test, mass produce, distribute, and administer.

Even the best run private company with a blank check from gov wouldn't not be able to get tests out in days. Will take weeks or months.

The WHO has been producing millions of kits since this all blew up in China.

They offered them to us when we started having reports here, but the CDC (more specifically, Rod Rosenstein's sister Nancy Messonier) turned them down and said we'd make our own.

Trace the potential pathways back.

1) To the hospital, 2) home, 3) airport in Buenos Aries, 4) at a minimum 13 hours on a plane between Rome and BA (could have connecting flights in there), 5) airport in Rome, 6) hotel, 7) tourist destinations 8) who knows where else?

When did they contract the virus and how many people did this person infect along the way for $1000, Alex?

Picked up something on the news today too.

FDA are the ones now talking about testing capacity, etc. They are also the ones who called out the CDC for the contaminated kits and poor handling in their lab and basically pulled the plug on the CDC lab producing the kits.

This is on top of Messonnier (Rosenstein's sister) being pulled from being the point on the country's response to this.

Clearly, someone up there identified the problem and is addressing it. Just hope it isn't too late.

Fast forward the Swine Flu Portion to Day 62 which is roughly where we are today with the Coronavirus. By that same time the Swine Flu was only about 68,000 cases, compared to the 92,000 confirmed cases of Coronavirus we sit at as of right now.

Up until last Friday, she had been CDC and the Administration lead on this (going back to late January).

As of Saturday, she's not on the coronavirus task force, she's not up there giving updates with Azar and Fauci, etc.

IT'S ALL ABOUT GOOD HYGIENE

Quote:

"In San Francisco in the 1970s and 1980s, it was routine to see men from China spit in the streets, blow their noses in their fingers and then wipe their hands on anything nearby, and generally violate American hygienic norms. Outside the tourist zones, Chinatown's restaurants and grocery stores also suggested resistance to American hygiene.

The Chinese who came to America to escape communism were amazing people and model immigrants. They worked hard and were so family-focused and education-oriented that, usually within one generation, they made the leap from Chinatown squalor to lovely suburbs. However, unlike the Japanese, the Chinese did not bring with them a culture of cleanliness.

Speaking of filthy, one of the problems with coronavirus is that, even though it's an upper respiratory disease, it's also spread by fecal matter. It will be a disaster in places that don't have good fecal matter control: China (primitive toilets and no culture of hand-washing); India (which is working hard to bring toilets to people, but it's slow going); Africa (a world drowning in fecal matter); and San Francisco (also drowning in fecal matter).
"That reference to hygiene in China gained new meaning from reading a viral post from Regie Hamilton, who was in China eighteen years ago to adopt his daughter. He vividly remembers the cultural comfort with fecal matter and other disease vectors:
Quote:

When my wife and I got off the plane, 18 years ago, to adopt our first daughter, we were taken aback by the split pants. Split pants are (or at least were, back then) pants the children wear that are open in the crotch area. That allows them to urinate or defecate unobstructed, onto the street or wherever they may be. The theory is that eventually they will learn to "aim it at the toilet" or something to that effect.
Either way, I distinctly remember my brand new Nike slip-ons (probably made not far from where I was standing) sloshing into a mix of urine and who knows what else, and continuing to do so for the next three weeks."
