The feds are really going to have to step up and cover any and all cost related to coronavirus. This is just insane.

Why are the feds responsible? Why wouldn't your insurance pay for it just like any other issue?
The Federal government is going to have to step up and cover the bill to contain and treat this. More important than dropping a couple million more bombs on some foreign country I would say. I don't see how this is debatable. The Feds could easily start by allowing every physician/hospital to bill them back for testing.
OK. So should the Feds pay for bills associated with other contagious illnesses? Flu? Pneumonia?

Why this disease?
Sure. I would say the same for anything classified as a pandemic risk. This is the literal definition of why we have governments.
OK. But why this one to start that policy? Have you posted this when other, more contagious and prevalent contagious diseases have come up? What about the flu? Pneumonia?

It's a slippery slope asking for the government to pay our medical costs. I'd prefer to handle it myself and with my own insurance.
I don't post my thoughts on every news item... so doubtful that I did.

As regards to slippery slopes and handling things on your own, pandemics disqualify you and others from being able to make that choice. You do not have the right to risk my life.

So if I have pneumonia or HIV or tuberculosis or strep or something much more contagious, you think the government should pay for all of my medical costs?

The percentage of tests coming back positive is a very important indicator in determining how widespread the outbreak is.
All it's really telling you is how well you're screening before wasting tests.

We already have procedures in place for disaster relief. This could follow similar precedence.
OK. So why aren't those procedures followed for other contagious diseases? Why this one particular disease?

Ha, I guess they just cast a bunch of pagan white liberals... look at these freaks. Literally looks like they just picked up a bunch of lib maggots at random from a pvssy hat rally.

If this is a very infectious disease - and if it's (apparently) already fully introduced into the general population - doesn't that mean we're all going to get it?

Definitely not. Maybe 40% to 70% of adults as estimated by a Harvard epidemiologist. Probably will be much less due to NPIs.

Italy should have been locked down weeks ago.

Almost every new case showing up around the world, other than Seattle and perhaps the rest of the west coast is coming out of there.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Great. A run on food will actually cause problems in an urban area just like a run on gas. No need to panic just yet.

I was shocked they let it go as far as they did last week. Missed that call. Hopefully you're not taking financial advice from anonymous TexAgs posters.....especially me.

Going forward, the FED has signaled pretty clearly they are going to drop rates and Trump is practically begging for negative rates.

The problem is negative rates are a complete unknown and IMO signal a default of the currency. Think about it, an institutional investor is guaranteed to lose money on his negative rate bond.....are you willing to do the same?

Crazy times we are experiencing.

I just can't see the Fed dropping rates that drastically, that quickly.

The government should stay out of health care.
Multiple things can be true:
  • The government should stay out of health care 99% of the time
  • Except maybe when there is an emerging infectious disease that could be stopped if we stop it early (like SARS) but we have to quarantine everyone who has it and that requires people to self-report, which they are less likely to do if they are worried about cost. (So maybe we should consider options while we still can)
  • I'd rather not find out if coronavirus actually kills 2% of all people it infects and is more infectious than the seasonal flu, even if I personally can pay for my treatment because all it takes is 1 irresponsible guy sneezing on me and then I'm missing a month of work at best.

I'm very much looking forward to the Texas heat... just to see if it has a positive effect on slowing transmission. I choose to believe we'll see it die down as a result (no pun intended to the old fogies). That will give me time to buy an island and get away from all you nasty people.
