Iran had an ambassador to the Vatican?? Dafuq?

Yeah, Iran's Christians aren't persecuted as bad as people think they are. The primary issue in Iran for Christians is that they cannot mix with the Muslim population. That is, mixed marriages aren't allowed.

a good friend of mine is a refugee from Iran because she converted to Christianity. she will put nothing remotely religious online because if the community found out, her family would be in danger.

it's technically fine if you are born Christian in Iran, but it's still very dangerous. all someone has to do is accuse you of evangelism and you'll be in serious trouble.

Yeah evangelism and apostasy for Muslims is a big no no. The two populations exist in Iran side by side but operate almost independently.

What does this mean for a vaccine? If the antibodies do nothing then how would a vaccine even work?
Similar to HIV twenty years ago. Except HIV didn't spread like the flu.
Wow maybe you could describe that kind of virus as the perfect bioweapon

Good God Man! Talk about an overreaction.....
Guys, this is Smug. It was said in jest. If you're not familiar with internet personalities... lets just refrain from posting them.

For the older crowd, this is like a late night political comedian, but instead of being on TV he is on Twitter. Also, he is pretty damn funny.

my company is following CDC guidelines...no travel to SoKo & china and carefully reconsider travel to Italy, Japan and Iran.

Im expecting further restrictions going forward as things progress. I work from home when I don't travel. I have plenty of supplies here at the house. Im hoping to calmly and quietly become isolated till this blows over

Did you tell them that this was just media driven panic and "just the flu"?

What point are you trying to make? That people aren't taking this seriously?

That is hysteria to even consider shutting down the University. If you work for them, you should ask if you can telecommute

The big concern with it is not necessarily the disease itself but rather the supply chain interruptions and potential shortages of basic supplies.

If that happens, then having a month's worth of food and supplies ready will be handy.

The issue with this guidance is the 14 day contagious incubation. It doesn't matter that we've locked down Japan and Italy now...we needed to do it 14 days ago.

After 14 days of train and air travel in and out of Milan, we should be restricting travel to all of EMEA...right now...not waiting another 14 days for the first cases to appear.

I dont mind becomming infected. But i wouldrather be first in line or last. Getting caught in the middle when medical industry is potentialy overloaded is when you are at highest risk of not receiving needed care.

I think it's pretty clear that this entire operation is a Dem hail mary to knock off the Boomers in time to steal the 2020 election from Trump. I saw a tweet which reposted a blog which linked to a magazine article which quoted a nurse practitioner. So, the theory is legit.

If someone in the US is suspected of having COVID-19 and they are tested, who bears the cost of that test? Would it be health insurance and a co-pay? Would the CDC pick up the tab since it is in the interest of public health? Does anyone know how that would work?

I think in terms of that, and if day care closes or I get to work from home how I can avoid needing to run to the store for things.

Publix is really close to home so I normally shop european style. What am I going to make this week and what do I need for it, nothing more. All the stuff I bought at Sam's yesterday is basically how to mitigate that for 2-3 weeks + some cold/flu supplies that would likely become impossible to find.

Some grocery items might be limited on shelves but no one is going to starve to death in the USA unless this thing has some wildly high mortality rate.
Bobcat06

I sincerely hope we don't need it, but it's prudent to plan for the worst case scenario like a Chinese style quarantine where people aren't allowed to leave home for a month and grocery supplies are limited.

A couple extra bags of rice and beans go a long way. My concern is based on the stories of people under quarantine starving to death.

Beat me before I could write it, but yeah that's pretty much what I bought. Might go again for a couple more things on Saturday just to have a little more variety.

We are absolutely full up on rice. I cook a lot of Indian food and there's a south Asian store within walking distance of home. There's a 20lb bag of basmati rice in my pantry along with all the other spices and stuff I buy from them in bulk.

Haha!

I am in the Texas hill country and I have no symptoms, so I should be fine.

We just had a discussion about testing and costs. If for example, the patient is the one covering the cost, on a high deductible plan, maybe they chose not to be tested due to the cost. I am assuming that the cost is significant. That could play a role in the numbers that we are seeing at the moment.

This is pure speculation as I do not know who would be covering the cost.
