Those are used to treat HIV.

I actually hadn't thought about this.

I'm assuming that if the govt really wanted to they could put together a database of all cell phones and what towers they pinged off of / GPS. Then mark them positive as they are diagnosed. Would be a good way to get a baseline r0 value and spot trends before they become a problem.

Just posting an update on my friend whose brother and sister-in-law have coronavirus they caught on the Princess cruise ship.

Her brother is doing well and should be out of the hospital soon.

Her sister-in-law is finally improving. She's still not doing well, but slowly improving.

A possible case is in quarantine in the Mexican city of San Luis Potosi today. Suspected, not confirmed. As with most things this situation will be a Keystone Cop type of situation in Mexico in terms of them knowing what is actually going on.

It's nothing new, google Typhoid Mary. It's an extreme example, but it's people carry all kinds of bugs that just don't effect them the same as everyone else.

That's not a good sign, especially with the long incubation time of this thing.

There seems to be some debate about the actual death rate of the coronavirus. And if we should all start to panic or not. Is it contained...is it coming here?

But, I think its safe to say that even if you are most likely to survive the virus, it sounds like its a miserable sickness.

You don't want to get this virus. It sounds like it would really suck.

That alone means that people are going to play it safe and this will be a disruption to the workforce and the economy.

Now we know why Iran exploded. Quarantine always works but I guess if you have incompetent leadership and a population that doesn't care then you have no way to enforce it.

I'm worried it isn't necessarily "like the flu" ... what if it causes slow but chronic damage to organs and body systems and lessens life span in those that don't die suddenly?

Anyone seeing data to disprove this fear?

Story from Costco last night. Wife and I went to pick up a few weekly things and kind of stock up on items just in case we're stuck at home with the kids for a week or so (stuff that we'd go through anyways like cheese sticks, tuna, pasta, etc). But we saw a guy in line with a basket half full with Vitamin C pills, elderberry syrup, canned chicken breast, tuna and other 'prepper' like stuff. It was pretty funny but then my wife thought, she might as well see if the elderberry syrup is decently priced and came back with a box and some vitamin C herself. She also mentioned there was another guy picking up similar items and they looked at and acknowledged each other saying you can never be too careful and then my wife directed the guy to the canned chicken breast and tuna to which he was super grateful.

If someone says this is "just the flu" or "like the flu" just write them off as dumb and move on.

For those of you who didn't catch his press conference yesterday, Dr. Bruce Aylward (renowned expert who led the team of experts on the ground in China), had a few alarming comments about the seriousness of the disease. ( source: )
