Live WHO conference.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/02/20/watch-world-health-organization-holds-press-conference-on-the-coronavirus-outbreak.html

China is playing numbers games again.

"However, China revised its diagnostic guidelines to exclude "clinically diagnosed" cases from the count in Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak thereby lowering the count.

What was previously termed "clinically diagnosed," or those confirmed through CT scans and symptoms, will now fall under the "suspected" category. They will no longer be counted as "confirmed" cases like they were in the previous diagnosis protocol."

They continue to play games changing the numbers, that explains the sudden drop in cases in China.

No problem.

Concerning U.S. cases, it is reported that five patients testing positive for COVID-19 are being transferred to a hospital in Spokane, Washington. I am assuming that these were part of the group of U.S. citizens that were flown out of Japan or China, but no information on them was provided.

Five Patients Testing Positive for Novel Coronavirus to be Transferred to Sacred Heart

Quote:

A joint statement from Spokane Regional Health District, Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, and the Washington State Department of Health
Spokane, Wash. - The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has asked Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center to monitor and care for five individuals who have tested positive for the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Providence will work closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) and Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) to care for these patients while they are under isolation. The exact timeline for the patient transfer is not yet known, but it is expected to occur within the next 1-2 days.
Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center was selected because of its secured airborne infection isolation rooms, a specialized unit within the hospital. Providence is one of 10 hospitals in the country with this specialized treatment center. Regular hospital operations will not be impacted.

They do. The differences you see is just John Hopkins trailing in reporting certain countries.

Just look at this https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

Compared to the current JHU #s.

The chart he's posting is a log scale, though. Any upslope is "exponential". However, my point is that if you take out the cruise ship, the slope is not upward, even on a log scale.
Peace. I was looking on my phone and didn't see that. Yes, any positive slope on a log scale is exponential.

Edit to add: The daily numbers are close to the JH site until 2/19 & 2/20. I don't know how anyone can be reporting the 2/20 numbers yet since the official numbers aren't released until late in the day.

https://github.com/CSSEGISandData/COVID-19/blob/master/csse_covid_19_data/csse_covid_19_daily_reports/02-19-2020.csv

So JHU had South Korea at 31 cases yesterday and they match today. That's the difference.

If those numbers are accurate, statistically there should be 450+ cases in Iran at a 2% CFR.

It galls me to say it but those are some valid questions. In particular, the automakers are going to be on the ropes very shortly (and Ford/GM have been in dire straits anyway trying to shift product lines to electric, as has VW), and then all the others depending on batteries (like electronics).

The counter balance to that is that energy prices could really collapse too (including coal/nat gas), but that will have the effect only to cause more problems in Texas, while destroying efforts to wipe out ICE engines and carbon footprints with massive tax schemes.

Now, if you throw African precious mineral supply lines into disarray in a few months...then I would be really concerned.

All that being said..I don't see how that leads America to...elect Bernie? Open borders, huge tax hikes and socialism/nationalized healthcare seem like a poor solution if the aforementioned all happen.

The cases and deaths in Iran are fake. Book it. Anyone believing they are doing anything other than trying to destabilize economy in hopes of hurting Trump is just being naive at best. Hell, Senator Murphy probably gave them the idea.

Theirs doesn't add up either. So you have no cases then you have 9 deaths?

I said both the cases and death reports are fake.

And I would submit if you sneeze in Iran right now you get the bullet.

Sounds to me like Iran is killing these people once they are infected to stop the spread of it.

That or Hillary Clinton is on vacation there.

My thoughts exactly, the symptoms are too similar to way too many other things out there. Misdiagnosis has to be rampant.

MERS is very similar and is also a coronavirus. It seems to randomly rear its ugly head now and then in the Middle East.

Not saying it is MERS, but one has to question if the test kits for the Chinese virus could be tricked by MERS since they're not that dissimilar.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

One thing to consider concerning US cases.

I saw an article today that up until recently, there was (understandably) no ICD-10 code for COVID19 testing.

So, in order to bill insurance, they probably had to code it as something else. When you do that, it makes it hard to get accurate counts.

Now that the new code has been created, we may start to see actual hard numbers in the US.

I think you have flown the cu ckook's nest with that one. Iran would be a drop in the bucket compared to the impact from what China is doing right now economically. Iran has already maxed out their stockpile and are cutting production of oil.

How would that even work?

The biggest economic impact from the virus is supply shortages from increased consumption and decreased production during quarantines.

USA already has a full boycott in place, so any shortages from Iran (real or imagined) will not directly impact our supply chains.

On the other hand, faking cases may lead other countries will restrict travel and trade with Iran.

Although Iran may have the motivation to harm Trump, they are in the worst position to harm us economically. Micronesia would have a bigger economic impact than Iran.

Faking cases would only hurt Iran and have practically no impact on America.

Not sure if test kits would pick it up.

Camels are usually responsible for MERS infections, and Iran has a lot of them......so many that they are required to have license plates.

For small values, an exponential is approximately linear. Its not until you past a certain point that the exponential diverges from a linear model. Right now, other than the cruise ship, the numbers of infected are low and difficult to model as small sample sizes often are. That cruise ship suggests something that this is highly contagious in close quarters. Which is is the story in Hubei overall.

I'd argue that the numbers in South Korea over the last week are concerning too. Certainly seems to be some acceleration there.
