I'm pretty sure liquidations that size are planned well in advance. Like before we knew this was even a thing.
They are pre-planned, but Bezos sold about $1 billion total each year in 2016 and 2017. This is 4 times those amounts. Coincidental timing?
C'mon. Correlation does not equal causation. It could be because Bezos sees an upcoming drop in Amazon stock price. But it could also be that he's planning on buying a yacht even more expensive than Gates', or that Blue Origin is going to need a massive infusion of cash, or that the Washington Post needs cash, or that he needs to fund his divorce, or any of a million other possible explanations.
I should have never posted that news about Bezos. My apologies. It is nothing but a distraction from the important news about the virus.

I personally believe we indulge the survival too many foolish people by shielding them from the Darwinian consequences of their own actions and choices, and that stupid people reproduce far too readily, and we indulge that also, but I hardly think it is ethical to blame the hapless offspring for the stupidity and selfishness of the parents.

Still, there's no inherent morality to removing humanity or a large portion of it from the planet from the standpoint of protecting the planet, as we alone care anything about it or it's existence in its current state. Such things are irrelevant to the rest of the planet and cosmos. What we do is in our nature to do.

Soap and water. Hand sanitizers do not effectively kill all viruses. FDA issued a warning letter to Purell 2 weeks ago about deceptive statements on their products.

Yes, soap and water, but those are not nearly as accessible in the public arena. I do use soap and water at home, but have some hand sanitizer in the truck.

My grandchildren are much more likely to use a quick spurt of hand sanitizer than soap and water. So something beats nothing.

Two Eastville surgeries have been closed to the public due to "unforeseen circumstances".
Both the Maytrees and Eastville medical practices, based at East Trees Health Centre in Fishponds Road, were shut completely earlier today (February 12).

The Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) has said it is unable to comment on why the practices have been closed.

According to a sign on the front of the health centre, the health practices will be re-opened "as soon as possible".

Rather than antibacterial hand sanitizers, I'd suggest anti-viral hand sanitizers. Those are sanitizers with a high (>60%) alcohol content. Simple antibacterial stuff, by itself, has little impact on destroying viruses.
I just checked and my hand sanitizer has 70% alcohol content.

Researchers from Imperial College London calculated in a new report that for every one person who has been tested and diagnosed with the coronavirus in Wuhan, 18 others likely have the infection but are going untested and undiagnosed.

Actually good news if true, means the death rate is close to 18x less than whatever number you want to believe and that this thing doesn't manifest as only severe disease. Plenty of people probably have a cough and runny nose and have this virus.

Bill Gates is a more the type of person to want to depopulate the earth. He has said as much.
Has he? What exactly has he said about that?

Has he said: "I want to forcibly depopulate the planet. People will need to be liquidated but that's okay with me"?

Or has he, just like any nerd from the Golden Age of SciFi, read hundreds of books with all manner of predictions about the future of humankind under different technological scenarios, and has come to the same conclusion which is obvious to anyone who looks at technology -- specifically, that we only needed 7 billion people when human labor was superior to automation, but now the amount of system input required to create and maintain another human body on the off chance that 20 years later they'll turn out to be intelligent Producers worth the investment.... has been circling marginal utility for decades and is now zeroing out as we enter the infancy of software-automation. In much the same way families in the pre-1940s USA needed to have 6-10 children in order to be able to divide up all the labor necessary to run the farm/ranch/smithy/lumberyard, and now only already-comfortable parents could afford to spend 23 years feeding and clothing 8 children whom our modern society actively prohibits from working/earning or otherwise sharing a family burden?

And did Gates merely point out - as a nerd looking at the overall trends of economic systems - the indisputable fact that a society with a tighter ratio of active workers to dependent non-participants, will have an economic and creative advantage over societies where parents must spend most of their time and labor choices merely feeding/sheltering a large set of kids?

Don't forget that hand sanitizer expires. The alcohol in the container will evaporate over time. The FDA puts a shelf life of 3 years on hand sanitizer, however I'm unable to find any real world data to indicate when a bottle of sanitizer would actually become useless.

Needs to have 70% alcohol in it. So either anti-viral hand sanitizer, or make some of your own by buying some 1-2 ounce spray bottles and filling them with 70% isopropyl alcohol.

Also remember it needs a minute on whatever surface you spray it on to kill anything.

My take on this is that It looks like this is more about them making the claim without any data/studies on those particular viruses, as well as, statements that it will keep you from getting the flu.

A question I would ask, if viruses require 70% isopropyl alcohol, and alcohol evaporates from the solution over time, is it ever really at or above 70% from the day it is manufactured?

Or do they actually increase the concentration with the idea that after 3 years it will have reached 70%?

The Sun is now reporting a confirmed case in London that was diagnosed today.

Quote:

THE first coronavirus case has been confirmed in London as the deadly bug spreads to the capital today.

The victim is a Chinese national and was diagnosed this afternoon, a City Hall source told The Sun.

The diagnosis will spread terror throughout the capital as experts claim we could be facing a "global pandemic".

Scientists have warned that London is at a greater risk than any other city in Europe due to the number of Chinese visitors that flock there each year.

More than 142,000 tourists arrive in London from China between January and the middle of March every year.

A total of 1,758 people have been tested for coronavirus in the UK, of which 1,750 were confirmed negative and eight positive.

Sane is a relative term.

Go back to the earlier pages to see where we were all going to die from a Soviet era bio weapon, or that millions were already dead around the world and it was being covered up.

How bad would it suck being quarantined in your room for weeks? Good god, I'm surprised people haven't started jumping ship and making a swim for the shore. How is the crew dealing cleaning towels and linens? How are people getting fed? What are the passengers doing to pass the time?

I'm curious how this is possible? Are they saying it moves through sewage plumbing, through the p-traps and finds a new home on the toilet?

Or is it able to travel through the plumbing gas venting plumbing, somehow working its way into other bathrooms before venting to atmosphere?

B.

The ship's problem is it has a closed HVAC system. So as more people get it, exhale it, it goes to the returns and gets passed to the next room over.

That ship is one big old petrie dish. Everyone is going to end up with it if they continue to hold them this way. They need to find a solution to get them off the ship and into isolation / quarantine.

And then scuttle the ship.

Chinese plumbing does not use p-traps. Hence odors and virus can readily escape the plumbing.
