It's in Africa. No telling what will happen with that.

I sort of think a bunch will be infected, but I don't think it will be fatal for more than a handful.

Some suspected cases have come back negative, others are pending.
There are none reported. Feel free to believe whatever you want.andyv94 said:Rapier108 said:There are no confirmed cases in Africa at this time.andyv94 said:cbr said:

Am I the only one that thinks that can't be right? When you have roughly one million Chinese working in Africa which for the most part has horrendous standards of living and sanitation is an afterthought?!

It's not like facts really matter on this thread anyway.
Unless they are in one of the parts of Africa westernized medicine and a hospital laboratory they cannot test for the virus. Only something like 180 labs worldwide that have the resting capability right now.andyv94 said:Rapier108 said:There are none reported. I'm simply stating that in the worse continent (regarding hygiene and living standards) where you have a large influx of Chinese ( I'm sure there are/were lots of Chinese coming and going to Africa on a daily bases) there are no cases at all.
You don't find it odd? I sure as hell do!

there is some discussion that Africa could be spared sum effects of CV due to the warmer temps and humidity, which make it harder for the virus to survive and propagate.
If heat and humidity stop the coronavirus from spreading in Houston, I can learn to deal better.C@LAg said:summer is Houston is NEVER a good thing.Zemira said:And summer in Houston is looking like a good thing for once in my life.C@LAg said:

Under any condition.
I would pick coronavirus over summer in Houston.
Of course I'm still at risk. I'm the poster child for people who have crazy immune systems. I will take anything that helps limit this nutty virus we don't know much about since it freaks me the **** out. I had pneumonia vaccines and flu shots but I can't do much about this, and I am not hiding in my house.C@LAg said:slow/limit, not stop. you are still at risk.Zemira said:If heat and humidity stop the coronavirus from spreading in Houston, I can learn to deal better.C@LAg said:summer is Houston is NEVER a good thing.Zemira said:And summer in Houston is looking like a good thing for once in my life.C@LAg said:

Bold mine. Power play in motion here folks. It is extremely rare for local officials to be directly appointed by the CPC, even more so when the NHC deputy director (still appears) to hold his previous position.Quote:
The party secretary for the Hubei Health Commission, and the head of the commission, were among those who lost their jobs.
They are the most senior officials to be demoted so far.
The deputy director of the local Red Cross was also removed for "dereliction of duty" over "handling of donations".
The two Hubei party officials will be replaced by a national figure - the deputy director of China's National Health Commission, Wang Hesheng.

Yep. There's a reason that there hasn't been person-to-person transmissions in the Southern Hemisphere right now. It's Summer there.Zemira said:If heat and humidity stop the coronavirus from spreading in Houston, I can learn to deal better.C@LAg said:summer is Houston is NEVER a good thing.Zemira said:And summer in Houston is looking like a good thing for once in my life.C@LAg said:

Kinda ironic that because they are 3rd world countries the virus probably won't infect as many there.KidDoc said:
Africa may be spared due to:
1) Heat & humidity
2) Good air quality outside of metros
3) Low population density in general-
4) poor transportation systems and less mobile.
5) Relatively YOUNG population. This virus mostly seems to get ugly in 50+ and the life expectancy in Africa is so bad they don't have as many elderly people.

Indonesia Has No Reported Coronavirus Cases. Is That the Whole Picture?
Experts find it astonishing that Indonesia has yet to announce a case despite hosting some 5,000 Chinese tourists a day in Bali before halting flights last week.
The family from Shanghai was vacationing in Singapore last month when they learned that the new coronavirus had arrived there from China.
So they packed up and flew to the world's largest country yet to report a single case of the deadly virus: Indonesia. They landed in Bali, a major destination for Chinese tourists, on Jan. 30 and have no plans to leave.
"People in Bali treat us nicely and are friendly," said Eva Qin, 36, who is traveling with her mother, husband and son. "We weren't given any health test."
Health experts have questioned why Indonesia has not yet reported a single case of novel coronavirus, even though officials were slow to halt nonstop flights from China. Indonesia receives about 2 million Chinese tourists a year, most of them in Bali
China's consul general in Bali said last week that about 5,000 Chinese tourists remained in Bali, including 200 from Wuhan, where the outbreak started.
Indonesia's closest neighbors have all reported cases, including the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia.
Five researchers at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health concluded in a study last week that Indonesia and Cambodia, which has reported only one case, should quickly intensify its monitoring of potential cases. Based on a statistical analysis, the disease could have arrived in Indonesia already, the authors concluded.
"So far, Indonesia is the only major country in Asia that does not have a corona case," Indonesia's security minister, Mohammad Mahfud MD, told reporters on Friday. "The coronavirus does not exist in Indonesia."
"Indonesia has many islands," he said. "We have many port cities. They all have different capabilities. I think good hospitals in Jakarta can detect it. But what about the community health center in Flores? Or in Sulawesi? Surely the capability is limited."
Indonesia's health care system is considered underfunded by international standards, with insufficient facilities and too few doctors, nurses and midwives, according to a 2018 report by the World Health Organization.
