Why would China need to announce it when it is in their own publication posted on their own website?

The screenshot in question came from page 15.

The new true measure for number of infected should be "no symptoms infected" + "confirmed" (instead of just confirmed)

Quote:

The precautionary move was sparked by the case of a 62-year-old woman in Room 7 on the third floor of Hong Mei House at Cheung Hong Estate. She was Hong Kong's 42nd and latest case as of 1.30am on Tuesday.

She was found to have lived below a man on the 13th floor confirmed to be infected earlier. The two flats share the same drainage system, which is being investigated as a possible route of transmission.

Residents living in 35 flats linked to the drainage system were evacuated overnight and put on medical surveillance, as building inspectors moved in.

from another forum;

What are the odds, that in 1981, novelist Dean Koontz wrote a book about a bio-weapon released around the end of the year, and developed in a laboratory in WUHAN ? Title of the book is "The Eyes of Darkness".

then again, what are the odds of tom clancy writing a book about a kamikaze hijacking a 747 and flying it into the capitol building in Debt of Honor in 1994....and...

anyway, just thought that was an interesting anecdote

The severe case percentage and the requirements for that are why China has been overwhelmed. 100% of the severe cases needing supplemental oxygen of a virus that is highly contagious and has 15% severe cases is brutal. This would turn ICUs into death traps very quickly, especially since it's airborne. Combine this with the insane incubation periods and yeah it's a major issue since it's very likely ICUs could get hit all at once.
If this is true, it would explain the paradox of why the virus seems so severe, yet not so massively threatening.

Needing supplemental oxygen in 100% cases is insane burden --- just think of all the places where no such supplemental oxygen option or center would be immediately at hand. And that is here--- let alone 2nd and third world scenarios.

Just the flu......

So with all these people being locked in their homes. What happens when one of them gets sick? I guess they suffer through at home and hope to make it?

I'm guessing that this would help keep confirmed numbers down, but just traps families together to let it run through.

Also why do all these door look like they open outward? I don't remember a single place I have lived having an outward opening door.

Not buying it. Those measures are too severe for just a flu. But it may mean they know there is a certain time range they can wait out.

Someone needs to button-hole President Trump about this--preferably in one of those walks to a vehicle or chopper where he expounds freely. Ask if we have verified what level of risk it is with official behind scenes Chinese sources. Are we ready to shut down all return travel if need to? That kind of thing.

At first I thought he was talking about the vent pipe but after reading the article, I'm not so sure.

Just a FYI, tweets do not need the URL code. They will embed automatically.

If someone tries to quote you, it will result in an error message saying "Your forum code is invalid."

And the "just the flu" comment in every post is past obnoxious.

I have not been following this thread closely, so apologies if these questions have been answered previously. Can someone who has been following this issue closely offer some perspective on the following:

1) There are videos of doors being welded shut and bodies being placed in hazmat bags. This seems very extreme for a virus that although very contagious is said to cause flu like symptoms. Seems as though there's more to this story than is being shared.

2) Why is the virus lethal? What does it actually do? Airway restriction? Internal bleeding? Organ failure?

3) Is the virus lethal over there b/c they have poor/inadequate healthcare, or would it be equally lethal in the U.S?

3) What is treatment?

Thanks in advance. I'll hang up and listen.

It's by Chinese expert Zhong Nan-Shan

A good breakdown is done by reporter William Yang @ WilliamYang120 on twitter

During hospital admission, the most common complication was pneumonia (79.1%), then is ARDS (3.37%) and shock (1%).

May the link below will shed some light on things ... maybe, just maybe this also explain why we are not seeing as much spread outside of China...

Also, not going so far as to say that everything we see is false in regard to welding people in their own homes... but maybe the reports are a little misleading... maybe people are being evicted from their homes and the doors are being welded shut so that people can't get back in.

Not that the numbers out of that regime would have any meaning but North Korea has the potential to be a total shiite show. I can't help but wonder where that country is right now given their massive trade and tourism relationship with China. I read their border is closed, but...if the virus is already in-country, and I assume it is, all bets are off.

And when this slips through the gaps, and spreads in the US, how bad do you think it will get?

Do you believe our current government will be able to stop something of this magnitude? I have absolutely no faith in the CDC or our general population. I'd be the last to advocate for an authoritarian government, but I bet they have a better shot at limiting the spread compared to us.

If our population is forced to stay in their homes for 2 to 3 weeks, there would be outright panic and blood in the streets. Stores would dry up without supply chains.

Lots of Wuhan residents taking business and vacation trips. It would look the same if the epidemic had started in L.A. or another large city.

This is a prime example of why I'm holding off on any significant concern about the potential impact in the US. It seems that China is perhaps the most perfect place on the planet for a disease to get out of control.

>insane population and population density.
>high mobility via public transit system
>general disregard for personal or communal hygiene.
>little focus on sanitation and air quality.
>generally unhealthy population of smokers, smog breathers and under-nourished.
>inadequate healthcare system of poor quality.

I mean, could you have a more perfect recipe for an outbreak?

Much of the transmission there has taken place in hospitals for goodness sake while people wait around for hours/days in hopes of seeing a doctor. Most folks are just put in a bed in whatever tent, or sidewalk, or building to wait it out (or just told to go home and stay inside) and can't even get basic treatment. OF COURSE the virus is going to spread like wildfire, and OF COURSE the mortality rate is going to be inflated!! What else would anyone expect given these conditions and environment?

I see a very different situation in the US in every way. So to assume the situation in China is in any way indicative of what the impact might be in the US, I think is a bit misguided. That's not to suggest we should be completely dismissive, and I am certainly paying attention. But I'm not ready to declare a pending state of emergency just yet.

You give us way too much credit. Consider the number of adult booger picking coaches you've seen on texags alone. Consider the number of nasty MFers that leave the public restroom and don't wash their hands. Do you think they bother at home?? No, we are far from immune from the spread of even standard flu.

Homeless population in places like LA, SF, Austin seem like perfect hosts for Corona virus outbreak in the US

Thanks liberal politicians for creating the perfect environment for a public health crisis (its not like nobody warned you or anything)

the bad news is, flights from china to US carried 800,000 people per month in november, december.

the good news is, if a whole lot of those people had the virus, you'd think we'd have more cases here by now.

it is time to tell a fun china story. there are so many.

so we had an office in Shanghai. Outside the office about 2 blocks was one of these 'locals only' **** markets.

Jim, the CEO, wanted to go eat dinner there, first night of my first trip as CLO/VP.

The CFO, me, and 2 other guys are saying 'the hell we are!!? No way. We're going back to the hotel or the bund or xien tien di,' or whatever that little gringo area was.

CFO yells, Jim' we'll be puking ourselves inside out within 2 hours if we eat there.

Jim says 'c'mon you *******, i dont see anybody puking!

RIGHT THEN, and I mean RIGHT THEN, this chinese lady lurches out from some bushes about 5 yards ahead of us and yaks all over the street on her hands and knees.

I freaking kid you not.

CFO points and yells 'what about THAT LADY!?'

I just turned around and headed back to Nanjang, and the rest of the guys did too.

keep in mind, i'll crawl all over mexico, peru, europe, SA, whatever, and eat where the locals eat and get the hell away from touristy stuff. NOT IN ****ING CHINA, BABY, NO DAMNED WAY!!!!!
