I had a teacher during a HAZWOPER class that visited China for an Environmental/Health Safety conference. Pretty high strung OSHA type guy. He told a story he was walking around the conference building between sessions and he smelt benzene and started freaking out looking around for a chemical spill. Turns out the Chinese janitor was cleaning the floor with benzene....

The Yangtze is not as polluted as the Ohio river.. It's also responsible for like 60% of water supply for China. The gov spends a ton of money cleaning that river.

Let's say theoretically if it was some terrorist group (Let's say Hui or Uyghur since they hate the gov and are the bogeymen there because they are pretty violent at times... Even then I think they are not that dumb). That poisoned/screwed with the river. The amount of dead on both sides would be tremendous, said ethnic group would no longer exist, and the violence would make any genocide in modern history look like child's play. Vlad III Dracula would look like a saint in comparison.
It would be like if Iranians (Randomly chosen, substitute with bogeyman group) burned D.C, shot the president, and burned the constitution on national television and threatened to kill anyone who was not aligned with their cause right after the embassy siege.
The Yangtze is much more polluted than the Ohio river, what an absolute joke to even make this statement. China has zero water quality standards. I do water and air quality permitting all over the US as part of my job and know well just how strict the water quality standards in the US are in comparison to the rest of the world.
It's one thing to claim it's not the Yangtze but it's quite another to make a claim that it's less polluted than US rivers with zero data to back that up. There are regular algae blooms on the Yangtze River and that river is responsible for 55% of the global total of oceanic plastic. The Chinese don't give a damn about the environment and they prove it every day with the massive ecological disaster they are creating. Standards are meaningless in that country.

What gets mocked is the hysteria and tin foil hat type stuff. Just a few examples are the claims of a 100%/99% kill rate; it is a Soviet/Chinese bio weapon; hundreds of thousands or millions already dead; 4-6+ billion will die; and believing every single thing posted to Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Reddit, etc. no matter how outrageous and without even a shred of evidence to back it up. All someone has to do is post a video to YouTube or Twitter, use a lot of big words and numbers along with some pretty graphs, and people swallow the click bait hook, line, and sinker. No doubt some people are making nice $$$ from their YouTube videos, and laughing all the way to the bank.
There is no rational thought or critical thinking allowed on this topic. I think there is an element which enjoys trying to incite fear and hysteria, and when called out for it, they lose their ***** To use the popular phrase, some just want to watch the world burn.
A example on this page is the supposed medic from Atlanta saying the procedure is "not normal". That is the same procedure that was in place during the Ebola outbreak. So it might not be "normal" under day to day operations, but it is not unprecedented by any means. I went to Scott and White when Ebola was in Dallas and was asked if I had a fever (wasn't sick, hurt my wrist), had been to the areas of Africa where Ebola was active, or if I had been in contact with anyone who had and was now sick.
Of course this reply will draw the same crap I just commented on, which I will not respond to because I refuse to give people an excuse to get flag happy.
