Willing to bet there's gonna be a link to China, either an airline that recently traveled in/out or near a passenger who traveled to/from China

great report from unlikely source this morning, NPR, sharing audio from Wuhan.... Young woman complaining, her grandmother died of "pneumonia" very suddenly during original outbreak, Aunt, Mother and Father all now sick, only father diagnosed however.

Just more confirmation that the numbers are most likely off by a factor of 2-3.

How is that confirmation of any kind? Some may call this an insult, but you just read a personal story and then multiplied it by 2-3 over the number of known cases and called it fact to confirm your bias. Some woman saying that has zero data. Antidotal evidence shouldn't be treated as mathematical fact.

No, but it is another piece of data.

FYI, it is anecdotal not antidotal.

Look for a break in the trend of these graphs......https://ncov.r6.no/

It appears that the R0 is lower for cases in China that are outside of Hubei.

I need to reference the 2009 texags pandemic thread to see how it was going back then. I don't remember paying any real attention to it at the time.

It is still hard to tell (due to China being so inscrutable) whether we have pandemic deniers or chicken littles. This thread is a petri dish of how people react to new threats.

Maybe confirmation is too strong of a word. However this is far from the fist piece of evidence that the numbers coming out of China are off by a factor of several. This story is just another on the pile of unofficial information coming out of China. If you go back and read through all the other posts there are dozens of pieces of information pointing to fudged numbers by the Chinese.

Are you waiting for an official announcement from the CCP that the lies?

I like zerohedge but seriously the only thing that could make zerohedge more excited about a pandemic and global economic downturn directly due to a Chinese bio-weapon that was "accidentally" released would be if Tesla's autopilot was the primary cause of transmission

Apparently we get most of our raw feedstock for medicines from China. Even if this only devastates China, the affects here will be massive.

If that's accurate, we will be amazed at how quickly American industry rises to the challenge. At the start of WW 2, Henry Ford built the largest aircraft manufacturing facility in the world in less than a year, and the entire Pentagon was also. When we want to get stuff done, we get stuff done.

This is an opportunity for us to shine, not to dwell in morbid doom and gloom.

And, we also have alternative sources of pharmaceutical feedstocks, such as India. My guess is that, like the tariffs, other sources will rise quickly to fill the void left by China.

Don't be so damn doom and gloom.

Edit to add: those are only headlines. Do you actually check any of this negative stuff before you post it? And one of those headlines is about anti-depressants. We may actually be better off if that supply is cut off.

I agree with you about cutting off antidepressants. The fact that "leaders" are concerned tells me that they likely want a compliant populace who is pacified with drugs.

Also, ramping up production here would take years. A decade at least. We can't just build plants like we could in WWII. The permits required to get them built take a long time to be approved. Construction is no longer a quick and easy process like it used to be.

For the O&G folks oil price is dropping. When your second largest customer doesn't need product for 30-days how will that affect everyone over here?

Interesting perspective:

So far Asia, Europe and North America are on the board for Coronavirus medals.

However, Latin America, South America and Africa have yet to medal.

The 3rd world countries that would seem most susceptible to an epidemic dont have no reported cases.

Is that because they dont have any cases or they dont have the means to properly screen everyone?

I plan on buying the drop. It has to be temporary in that the demand for the end products made in China shouldn't be changed that much by this.

One of 9 Belgians infected as compared to 3 of 200 Japanese evacuated earlier. If the population in Wuhan had similar infection rates, there should be about 165,000 to 1,200,000 infections in Wuhan (based on 11,000,000 population).

I would guess it's more related to the latter, although I would bet it also has something to do with the fact that there is much more travel between China and Europe/NA/Asia than there is with the other continents.

Throwing out another "conspiracy theory" (at least I am declaring it in advance.)

Was listening to Brian Kilmede Radio this morning, and he had an economy expert talking about the election and specifically China. He said:

Quote:

China has been reporting 6% GDP for years now and they can't sustain it.

The real story is that their economy has been on the downturn for a while now.

Brian asks, "Are they going to follow through on the deal? Is it enough make farmers in Iowa vote for Trump?"

He responded, "They have already made purchases and seem to fulfilling their side of the deal. If they don't fulfill their side of the deal, it is back to tariffs (trade war) to recoup the lost money..."

Another theory I am proposing is that:

First, everyone (China) thought Hillary would win.

Second, Mueller, Session, Rosey, Comey, FBI, CIA, failpeachment, Hillary, Brennon.... everyone (US personnel) was indicating, for the last 3 years, they would get Trump out before the first term. Think about all the heads of state communicating that message behind closed doors. (Thank you MSM for painting that pictures for the world, not)

Third, Everyone was hoping these scandals would hurt his reelection at least! It certainly does not appear so.

Second, no one thought China would blink during the trade ware. The signed the deal meaning they had no choice (because that is how you deal with communists)

Fourth, Trump is on track to win re-election based on all economic indicators, and Iowa can't even produce a candidate.

IMHO, it is just too damn peculiar that this happened: during an election year, during an impeachment trial, after a trade deal was signed that if reneged upon, China knows the consequences for the next 4 years. If China suffered a massive economic collapse, Xi would be ousted for sure, and it could take decades to recover.

Based on everything we have seen, I think it is completely plausible they are culling the heard...."For the Benefit of the (insert communist propaganda for your country here)"

That's a hard sell, scaling percentages from a pool of 9 individuals to a pool of 11,000,000..

Do you have any other figures for infections outside of China's figures? Yes, it has a huge degree of uncertainty, especially since we don't have figures for those countries that evacuated their citizens with no infections. So 4 of 209+ would be about 210,000 infections.

Africans apparently have an even greater resistance to this type of virus than whites do and African international travel is pretty sparse, it's not that surprising.

Get it into a city like Lagos though, better watch out.
