Did you read the article? French journalists reported this incident about a block from a large hospital in Wuhan. New normal?

Quote:

A team of forensic experts who examined him were immediately sprayed with disinfectant by colleagues after removing their hazardous material suits.
In the two hours that AFP observed the scene, at least 15 ambulances passed by, attending other calls.
Finally, a white van with blacked-out windows arrived to take away the man. The body was zipped into a yellow surgical bag, and carried into the van on a stretcher.
Staff immediately began to clean the ground as the van drove away, disinfecting the streets where the body had lain.

From the last hour...

"About 2,100 new cases were also recorded in the country in the past 24 hours, raising the worldwide total to nearly 12,000, according to Chinese and World Health Organization data."

Why would they be wearing masks if "cured?" Wouldn't they have antibodies or immunity to this now? Or is it expected they could still infect others, or be susceptible to a mutation?

Or they are just actors pretending to be cured for a photo opp.

You ever been to China? This is the equivalent of wearing a hat in the US. Was there 2 years ago without any outbreaks and people still wore them like they were going out of style.

I don't disagree. I don't trust what China publishes. Wondering about the thought behind the masks, though.

I guess they could be because the patients' immune system is weakened.

They can infect others for days after their symptoms are gone.

Not saying this is what happened, but if you wanted to put an end to the Hong Kong protests, releasing a relatively mild but contagious virus is one way to do it. Starting it in HK is too obvious, and starting it in Beijing or Shanghai is too risky.

There, that's my potential conspiracy theory.

I still think it's very very very unlikely- the CCP doesn't like anything that undermines its credibility, and they aren't stupid enough to think this would be easy to control. AND the HK protests were already dying off.

Still can't make the math match the hysteria. If as claimed, their should be a lot more deaths at this point. So either we have to assume deaths are being under-reported by an order of magnitude; or it is not as lethal as speculated. The high death rate I have seen is 2% based on deaths against reported cases and drops to below .5% if you include suspected cases.

Another ZeroHedge article...if others posted previously, apologies. Summarized at the end of the article:
[ol]
  • One of China's top virology and immunology experts was and still works at China's top-rated biohazard lab, the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which some have affectionately called the real Umbrella Corp.
  • Since 2009, Peng has been the leading Chinese scientist researching the immune mechanism of bats carrying and transmitting lethal viruses in the world.
  • His primary field of study is researching how and why bats can be infected with some of the most nightmarish viruses in the world including Ebola, SARS and Coronavirus, and not get sick.
  • He was genetically engineering various immune pathways (such as the STING pathway in bats) to make the bats more or less susceptible to infection, in the process potentially creating a highly resistant mutant superbug.
  • As part of his studies, Peng also researched mutant Coronavirus strains that overcame the natural immunity of some bats; these are "superbug" Coronavirus strains, which are not resistant to any natural immune pathway, and now appear to be out in the wild.
  • As of mid-November, his lab was actively hiring inexperienced post-docs to help conduct his research into super-Coronaviruses and bat infections.
  • Peng's work on virology and bat immunology has received support from the National "You Qing" Fund, the pilot project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the major project of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Almost positive this is tin foil stuff but that is a disturbing and terrifying thought to ponder and would make for a horrific novel. If our intelligence community ever caught wind of that, we would surely send a serious message right?
That claim doesn't fit with the idea that there is no real difference at the genetic level. It would be a case of which claim is true? There is genetic difference, or isn't.

But not only does that sound tinfoil, it sounds especially so in China's case. They already have a huge number advantage and there actions are classically imperialist conventional. "Gut" says this is nothing so like that. A vaccine gone wrong sounds more probable.

If source said earlier is true about plants re-opening Feb 12, we will know by mid-month if China is starting to come out of it.

We'd have to look at the flow of people between regions- do a lot of people travel from Wuhan and HK and vice versa?

Could it have started somewhere else and just blew up in Wuhan?

Can Wuhan flows of people be more easily blocked to and from Wuhan?

I don't think dividing reported deaths per currently infected is a proper formula to determine 'death rate' right now. You could use that formula after all this mess is over with. Most of those currently infected are still going through their illness. They haven't reached the conclusion of the sickness, which is cured or dead.

If you want a better rate, it'd be something like dead / (dead + cured). I don't know if there is an accurate cured number.

Ah, yes, (face-palm). That didn't click --- I was just focused on Wuhan being so inland and central and not that close, and maybe not where you want it to start. But if there is such a regular flow, and you are looking for cover, that is a way. Same for the control of flow you mention. Ok.

A Few reasons mortality could be either higher or lower.

    1. We don't know the accuracy of the numbers coming out of China. This could either raise or lower the figure, I'm guessing China wants it lower.
    2. Deaths lag behind cases by several days to two weeks. You don't die the instant you contract it, it takes a while. This would cause mortality higher than reported.
    3. There are carriers who are asymptotic, this would cause the mortality to be lower than reported.
    4. We pretty much know that cases are under reported, this would drive the mortality lower.
    5. All deaths I believe are in China, so their healthcare system comes into play, good or bad depending of what country you compare to.

The hysteria of the Chinese government just doesn't match the numbers.

They seem to be underreporting. A combination of state number fudging and a lack of test kits. The deaths are also underreported in relationship to their response. We heard days ago that people had their deaths classified as pneumonia, but likely had the virus. I don't really believe the dropping in the streets videos, but there has to be more to this.

We have seen cases pop up outside of China, but mostly from people who visited Wuhan. There doesn't seem to be a rash of people getting sick from those people, yet.

The pathway that was discussed early the virus took that is present in the Asian population, but less likely in others may be the key to the spread.

Currently my theory is they were working on vaccination of sorts to only protect their people. Somehow the vaccine backfired and did the opposite. It either escaped the lab through poor practices, was actually given to humans or some other way I have no clue if because my knowledge of biology and genetics is absolute crap.

An aside: One of the few classes that grossed me out was biology and our teacher also taught anatomy on the class before us. After that I refused to take biology or anatomy ever. All the other science classes I look in high school and college where chemistry and physics. I also took an atmospheric science class, but so determined it wasn't so much science as guesstimated models of the weather.

Deaths will lag about 7 days behind infections, maybe more. The study that was just released yesterday calculated a mortality rate of 6.5%, almost the same as the SARS epidemic. China has a lot of elderly that will skew the rate higher, along with overcrowded medical facilities.

There are still no reported deaths outside of China.
    titan

Another possibility that makes sense of the quarantines.

They know it is something that if you can outwait it 14 days or so, it won't get passed, and runs it course (either patient recovers or dies, or is no longer contagious, etc)

If it is that straight-forward, a draconian "just stay inside for a week more" --- can make sense if trying to arrest its spread. In fact, that can only work if if they do know it it has latency expiration something like that.

But the panic does not match something routine. Like we seem to be treating our `main' current flu that has killed a bunch--beyond the usual and important shots and precautions, it is not a govt level reaction. (ie. `routine' in that sense) You can compare that to China's situation.

Anyone thinks 'escaped biolab or even bioweapon is tinfoil hat' is simply ignorant of bioweapons programs, ciruses, history, and chinese culture.

And anyone who hasnt thought of he idea that people want 'racially targeted' viruses doesnt understand history, bioweapons, and human nature.

Now, wheteher that is possible or not with present tech, i have no idea. No declassified info on it that i know of.

But we KNOW that russia engineered doomsday 'kill everyone on earth horribly' kinds of viruses. Why would they not have also engineered 'only kill all of them' viruses if they could?

That said, either the disinformation campaign is really effective, or this one is thankfully not looking like an american doomsday yet today, outside of some outlier sources.

There is speculation that this virus was being used to develop and immunize against the genetic disadvantage Asians have to viruses like HIV, the plague, and sars.

Supposedly the studies from the alleged scientist said that this virus reacted more negatively with bats immunized against sars already.

It will be interesting as westerners are exposed:
    1. Is our serious case and mortality rate lower?
    2. Are we less likely to catching it in the first place?
    3. Is our cure rate higher and faster?

There is a genetic difference, this is widely known among geneticist but the general public (both the left and the right) really doesn't like the idea because it's very non-PC.

From a disease standpoint this is why all of those European diseases devastated the New World while Europeans had some immunity. These things are widely known.

Anyone claiming otherwise is simply ignorant.
