I wonder how many people got this and didnt get sick enough to even know they had something out of the ordinary?

Or just assumed they had the common flu.

Why are we so certain it's manufactured and not something that Asians may be naturally more susceptible to?

So you are saying that is seems more plausible that Asians are more succeptible to a family of viruses (nCor, SARS, MERS) that tend to pop up in Asian countries than that an Asian country created a bioweapon designed to kill only Asian people?

11 of 99 patients died, almost all were elderly with underlying medical problems prior to infection.

That is about 9 times as deadly as the common flu, with an R0 value twice as high.
But none of the patients outside of China have died, at least not yet.

Come on it wouldn't be F16 if we didn't have a few conspiracy theories about a subject.

That is the interesting part. Is it because most of those outside China were not elderly with underlying medical conditions?

Of the 74 cases outside of China, only 1 is serious.

Thank you for finding the Lancet article.

Just wanted to point out that 11% have died SO FAR. 17% have developed ARDS.

Rush just said he got email saying that

Buahahaha

There is a video out (prank most likely) of a girl wearing a mask and latex gloves getting the Coronavirus out of the house by pouring his Corona beer down the drain.

Since we are spit balling here....I've read enough Tom Clancy, Dale Brown, techno-thrillers and have an overactive imagination to venture a wild ass guess.

What if this was the first shot of a WAR? Bio-engineered weapon to take down an enemy. Maybe it was the Russians, maybe it was Trump/Q group, maybe it was the Anti-Christ, maybe it was Hillary because the ChiComs were going to rat her out, etc.

We could have a couple glasses of whiskey and come up with all sorts of ideas....I am still going with accidental release at this point though.

I find it suspicious that the Chinese knew to look for some new never seen virus right away...especially given the state of their health care system. Maybe they knew to look for it early?

If this had started in the US it would probably have been awhile before we suspected anything more than the flu.

Virtually everyone who gets a cold says they have the 'flu'. Few actually do. Flu will put you on your ass.

Perhaps they did a flu swab in a patient with pneumonia, which came back negative, and then began to dig.

The Chinese have been aware since at least mid-December.

CDC confirms that Coronavirus testing is expanding to El Paso's airport and border crossings

EL PASO, Texas -- The U.S. Centers for Disease Control confirmed to ABC-7 on Wednesday that they will be increasing screenings of international travelers to encompass 20 entry points - including El Paso's airport and border crossings.

The clarification comes after local airport and border officials expressed confusion following the original federal announcement about expanded screenings on Tuesday. It appears the expanded screenings have not yet begun.

A spokesperson for El Paso International Airport told ABC-7 that "the CDC has not provided any direct notice to EPIA about plans to conduct screenings. Currently, there are no screenings being conducted at EPIA."

And the El Paso sector spokesman for Customs and Border Protection told ABC-7: "CBP is not conducting health screenings of travelers. CDC personnel are responsible for the health screenings at all locations. CBP is working with the CDC to identify arriving travelers who have a nexus to Wuhan and who require enhanced health screenings."

Benjamin Haynes, the senior spokesman for the CDC's infectious disease team at its Atlanta headquarters, told ABC-7 on Wednesday that the "CDC has reassessed its entry screening strategy and decided to expand ill traveler response capacity from the current five airports to all 20 quarantine stations in the United States."

The list of expanded screening locations Haynes provided directly to ABC-7 included El Paso. Other Texas locations on that CDC list included Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston. Haynes said he was "not 100% sure" when the expanded screenings would begin at El Paso and the other locations. (You can see the entire list at the end of this article.)

China is one of Mexico's largest trading partners. If there happens to be an outbreak in Mexico, it will be difficult to control.

A new case in Finland was documented today.

lol the following are known or obvious, and not 'conspiracy'

1) it is about as likely to suspect biolab origin as it is natural... lots of reasons to suspect biolab

2) it is by far most likely that it is accidental than any other reason, though idiots/fools/terrorists and governments have all used bio agents before, there is no reason to think this is an intentional release

3) the numbers coming out of china are certainly not accurate, and certainly low. the question is by how much. are the real numbers double, or 1000 times the reported ones? given the lack of more leaks, it is probably under 10 or 20x or more leaks would have happened. regardless of numbers, they are still growing exponentially.

4) the infectiousness or R-0 factor range is unknown but certainly above 3 by all sources and that is far worse than anything serious in recent memory.

5) the disease is commonly communicable by asymptomatic hosts, which is worse than many serious comparables, as is the length of incubation period or whatever you call it... which gives rise to serious concern.

6) the rate of infection/serious symptoms/death/recovery are completely unknown at this point. 2-3% have already died. only 1-2% have been released as 'cured', everyone else is in between still, so who knows if it is 3% fatal, or 60% fatal. very likely will not be on the high end but it is still a VERY serious issue.

7) the reaction of various governments indicates that this is EXTREMELY similar and their information is calculated to avoid panic rather than address the problem the most effectively, which means they think this is going to be very bad.

8) the absolute worst case scenario, of a weaponized 2 stage highly lethal virus (from or related to the known post-soviet biopreparat viruses) now appears unlikely despite that early bootleg video - but has certainly not had time to be completely ruled out.

9) rumors of 'racial genetic targeting' have insufficient data to give any credence whatsoever to at this point.

10) we wont really have much of an idea where this is ultimately headed for at least another week or two.

if you have poor lungs, general health, or rely heavily on any particular chinese imported goods, i'd make firm plans now.

If you are smart, you'll prepare yourself for a couple of months of potential isolation, worst case. If you need any more than that the world is a different place and a few more cans of soup wont be what makes the difference.

I'm still struck by the fact that even though everyone is convinced China is not reporting everything accurately, they are still not able to hide the exponential rise in confirmed cases...

Notice how the number of cities quarantined stop rising, and their official population count of how many quarantined stopped at 50 million?

I'm not entirely sure what your second sentence has to do with the first. They're clearly withholding information, just not sure why the quarantine areas stopped growing shows that they're withholding information. They don't seem to care about the optics of massive quarantine areas.
