Welded bars on the windows. Yeah whomever is going to this new hospital isn't ever coming out. The whole thing is a facade.
If the danger is like H1N1 or H5N1 (swine flue / bird flu) it's not so much the virus itself but the cytokine storm. Steroids and immunosuppressant drugs could work against this, but it's tricky because then the virus could kill you.gigemJTH12 said:
so once you get it, how do they treat it? is it any different than the flu?

Can someone explain to the non scientists what a "cytokine storm" is exactly?
Ahh okay my immune system already has a fairly abnormal response in general so that actually makes sense.agdoc2001 said:Zemira said:

At it's simplest, it basically means it isn't the infection that gets you, but your immune system's exaggerated response to the infection.

It's the flu. Know how many people died of the flu in the US last year; About 56,000... This is nothing. Just fear mongering.
And it tends to happen more to healthy people rather than elderly, very young, or those with weak immune systems. This is why the 1918 flu killed so many healthy adults instead of the usual people the flu tends to kill.k2aggie07 said:
Virus makes your body produce the proteins which tell your body to have an immune response (cytokines). Some viruses cause this to go haywire and overreact in a positive feedback loop. More immune reponse makes more cytokines which makes more response which makes more cytokines....
Some flus cause that to happen in your lungs and then get inflammation and fluid buildup, which can lead to breathing problems and bacterial pneumonia, and then death.
