I think it is more likely that these 8 venues are a "death camp" than a hospital. No wonder that person didn't want to get into the van.will25u said:

like we said, 80k people a year die from flu. they dont shut down their economy, mobilize their miiltary, quarantine half the country, shut down international travel, build emergency hospitals and crematoriums, and shut down the internet for that....
so.....do you think they think a lot more than 80k people are going to die?
Guess it depends on how many hospital beds are available vs. how many they anticipate needing. People still get sick with regular stuff and it doesn't seem like they have enough capacity relative to population size to begin with. If you're already tight on space and have something that is going to hospitalize 10s of thousands, you need more space.will25u said:Is it me, or does this make it seem a LOT worse than what they are reporting?lunchbox said:
Add that "normal" 80,000 to an additional 80,000+ potentially from this.....cbr said:

Hmmm...Make shift hospitals out of large scale public venues? That is a -5 points from reasonability...at least.will25u said:Is it me, or does this make it seem a LOT worse than what they are reporting?lunchbox said:
There are virtually identical numbers of men and women over the age of 60 in China.Agvet12 said:Zemira said:
Is that because men outnumber women that much in China or is there something in the virus makeup that makes it more lethal to people with a Y chromosome?
Or the men have more underlying health issues so they have a weakened/compromised immune system?
Beat me to it, but I would say that it's because men outnumber women by somewhere well north of 2:1
Obviously, you primary hope is this virus doesn't show up in your hometown. But after that, it is best for everyone world-wide if China is able to get a handle on this thing as quickly as possible. Not only because the longer this goes on, the greater the risk of it getting out of control world-wide, but also for economic reasons. Because china manufacturing plays a major role in the global supply chain.Rustys-Beef-o-Reeno said:

What makes you think they are killing the virus? A lot of what they have been doing is just for show...OnlyForNow said:

Holy water.
On a serious note, it looks like more show. How would disinfecting an apparently empty highway help? I could see spraying a market or downtown area.
Honest question: what justifies this prediction? Is it due to cancer's relationship with certain viruses?nortex97 said:
Prediction: China is going to lead the world in cancer deaths for the next 50 years, per capita.
