We won't even be able to keep pace with Italy in terms of treating patients.

I'm talking about the shortages in stores today, not the broader picture on the economy impact. Obviously, all of these shutdowns are going to negatively impact the economy and jobs. But today, not everyone needs 2 months of toilet paper.Bingo Bango Bongo said:
This is a bit like the gas shortage thing all over again. Panic driven shortages when if everyone could calm a bit, we'd be fine.C@LAg said:not really, because this will have rippling and cascading impacts across the economy that will takes months and quarters to flush through.
there WILL be layoffs now, and when Q1 financials come out, and likely again in Q2.

Virtually every shelf is empty. No meat, no produce, little frozen food, no canned goods, and little if anything else.
And of course, no toilet paper.
HEB finally had to come out and say they are not closing down because clearly that rumor (as we saw posted here earlier before the mods deleted it) is making the rounds on social media.

Do you happen to know what the scenario would be like for rural hospitals? Not trolling, genuinely curious. Friend of mine just moved into their dream place out in the country but they travel back to Aggieland several hours away to visit their doctors, etc. I am sympathetic to wanting to stick with a preferred doctor, but how is access for folks who further out that don't do that--do the community hospitals have pretty much everything necessary for something like this?Shanked Punt said:

They have 1,500 ICU beds in the entire country with 1,153 critical cases. This is why they are struggling. It's pretty incredible for a Harvard professor to not account for this factor or occupancy.
If we are going to use his simplified analysis, we have capacity for (750,000 beds / 10% critical rate) 7.5 million cases at any one time, but that's stupid. The bottleneck will be in ICU beds and mechanical ventilators.

Hell, I'll continue to mock you. The stores and restaurants aren't closing. Anything outside of your normal inventory is just silly.
Especially if you "stocked up" with perishable goods.

We live in Lago Vista where deer roam the streets and yards freely since hunting is not allowed in the city limits. But if things get too bad, a deer or two might accidentally fall on my bullet.

Strange for her to jump to the racist conclusion. Could be bc nobody wants to stock up on something that is perishable or can be frozen. But, she's probably a lib, so it makes sense
