No. Their job was to do actual journalism.
But these days journalism is nothing but clickbait. There aren't even massive editorial rooms down at The Daily Planet, with reporters talking to each other and devoting staff resources to big stories. The amount of actual research that goes into articles in the year 2019 involves people sitting at laptops by themselves at Starbucks doing a bunch of mindless source-aggregation of the type anyone on TexAgs could do in a half hour.
