Multiple presidential candidates weighed in on the story and made comments that were not constructive in any sense. Voters should hold them accountable.

The Speaker of the House jumped on the racist/homophobic bandwagon and stated that justice should be served. Although she deleted the tweet, this is a path someone in that position should not be heading down unless there is concrete evidence.

Why do I suspect the whole thing was AS's idea?
Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and myself founded empires; but upon what foundation did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force! But Jesus Christ founded His upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for Him. - Napoleon Bonaparte

I got a friend who is a Dallas police officer. He told me most hoaxes don't lead to any jail time. Could someone explain to me why this one will be different.

Also, don't get me wrong, I hope he's tossed in jail. I'm just trying to not get let down if he avoids jail time.
It depends on the state. In some states, filing a false report is a misdemeanor. It's a felony in Illinois.

Isn't he possibly facing federal charges as well? Curious about the letter threat hoax and if the whole incident constitutes a hate crime.

Also, most hoaxes don't get national media attention, stoke racial tensions in an already tense city & potentially put people's lives in jeopardy due to revenge acts, get FBI investigations, etc.

Such a weird case and goes to show to try and approach any situation like this with impartiality. Just because people were likely right on this one doesn't mean people aren't attacked in ways like this because of the color of their skin. Stuff like this does happen and it isn't always a false flag. But it also goes to show that people will manipulate the story to fit their needs when we get into the environment we have now.

In theory, yes. But I would need more specific information to see which federal crimes.

So Jussie Smollet fakes a hate crime and even though cracks in the story appeared the second he would not give up his phone to CPD it gets intense air time for two weeks before it collapses into a complete hoax.

We are told that hate crimes are a problem in this country. No doubt they are. But are they an epidemic? How can they be? How large can the supply of actual hate crimes to discuss be when hoaxes have to be pounced on immediately and run with without any sort of wait for additional information?

Meanwhile...how many "Justice for Jussie" retribution beatings went the other way and just disappeared as noise into the ledger of typical street crimes?

The Twitter feed below is a laundry list of hoax "Hate" crimes. I'm surprised Twitter hasn't banned this guy for WrongThink yet:

https://www.breitbart.com/entertainment/2019/02/18/jussie-smollett-refuses-to-meet-chicago-police-hires-crisis-management-firm/

Quote:

Empire actor Jussie Smollett is refusing to be questioned by the Chicago Police Department and has hired the services of a crisis management firm amid reports he staged an attack on himself last month.

"There are no plans for Jussie Smollett to meet with Chicago police today," Anna Kavanagh, a crisis manager at MediaPros24/7 said in a statement Monday. "Any news reports suggesting otherwise are inaccurate. Smollett's attorneys will keep an active dialogue going with Chicago police on his behalf. We have no further comment today."

Chicago police on Sunday said they requested a follow-up interview with Smollett due to "new evidence" they obtained that "shifted" their investigation into the 36-year-old's alleged assault on January 29. Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi would not comment on reports that Smollett orchestrated the attack and that a grand jury could hear the evidence. "We're not confirming, denying or commenting on anything until we can talk to him and we can corroborate some information that we've gotten," Guglielmi said.

"Weird case" is not how this story would be described if a white person planned out a fake attack by black people.

Of course, that is exactly why this "weird case" will go relatively unpunished and we will all move to the next hate crime hoax and believe we need to give them the benefit of doubt again.

What do the actual numbers show of 1) How many people overall are attacked due to the color of their skin and 2) As to the color of the attackers, which groups are over-represented and which groups are under-represented?

There are three reasons people don't question this kind of thing from the start despite many red flags/holes in the story:

  • Their political bias, left leaning, they want it/know it to be true because MAGA hat = KKK hood
  • They are virtue signalling which is the easy path to take (you can always come back and say you were duped so its better to "get out in front" with a good old fashioned virtue signal)
  • Those that might question it early would be labelled by the folks from the first/second bullets as racist homophobic bigots

This explains probably 99% of the reason a hoax like this can gain traction.

Looks like his defense team is going to force the CPD to arrest him in order to question. They apparently want the optics of him being arrested and I'm guessing are thinking the cops only have circumstantial evidence of Jussie setting this up.

I think you make some good points but there's a little more to it. There is a burning desire by people in this country for this horrible thing to be true because they have worldview that need upholding. This would have provided years of fuel if true and people needed it to be true. We've had two years of how things are so much worse in this country and yet, no evidence. This was going to be the thing that proved how bad things are (just like Covington kids were).
