Was listening to WTAW this morning and right after the 6:30AM news, they always talk politics, which usually involves some veiled insults toward Trump and Republicans.

Chelsea Reber said that Kavanaugh is done because Creepy Porn Lawyer's client is totally credible, her account is so detailed that it can't be fake, and because she would never have signed an affidavit under penalty of perjury if it wasn't all 100% true.

So either she is naive, doesn't actually read the news, or believes her simply because the accuser is female.

I see stuf on the internet that she was a defendant in a defamation lawsuit, and that she also filed an sexual harassment suit in the past and settled, and her ex had a restraining order and said she is BSC.

Idk what is true, but the lawsuits and restraining order would have verifiable paper trail of proof.

I had no idea that Chelsea was that clueless. It takes less than two minutes of research and one minute of logical comprehension to see how ridiculous Avenatti's client is.

My prediction is that they are going to go VERY easy on her. Republicans are scared to come off as bashing a woman and "victim". It will be up to Kavanaugh to show some fire a la Clarence Thomas.

Agree. I think they're going to need a true, ironclad smoking gun(s) before they push at all. Which hopefully they have.

If a judge actually grants that injunction, ignoring precedent, the congress should ignore the order.

She says in her opening statement that this was her "work email" that was "hacked", and it occurred "Tuesday evening"...

I wonder...did the story about the existence of the emails come out before or after this opening statement was published?

They won't attempt to destroy her but don't expect to see a day of softball questions lobbed her way.

Thankfully the Republicans were savvy enough to bring in a female lawyer to be the tip of the spear on this. Definitely tones down the optics the Democrats were hoping for of a bunch old white dudes seemingly going after the "victim". I'm assuming the female lawyer will focus on the holes in her story, ie. can't remember date/year, house, or how many people were actually at the supposed party.

Supreme Court has already ruled that you can't file a lawsuit to stop congressional votes or something to that effect. That's not the legal term, but basically they can't.

it's been a few nights and more beers since my last government class, but this isn't part of the whole checks and balances thing, so a judge has no power to stop this...right?

A judge should have no power to stop it and the SC has confirmed that. But our federal judges have been operating so far out of the scope of their authority already, that I'm confident the initial judge will grant it anyway.

I'm only asking because I'm certain she'll do her job and be hard on Kavanaugh, since she has light years of experience. But she IS a prosecutor, and as Dershowitz said last night, she doesn't have much experience on the plaintiff end.

A prosecutor will have more experience questioning the plaintiff since the accuser pretty much always has to testify while the defendant oftentimes doesn't. I'm sure she's plenty experienced enough to flush out truth vs. lie. Biggest key in prepping for a case is flushing all of that out when interviewing/preparing the accuser.
