Does this mean Barr can be appointed special counsel to investigate something else?

Barr is retiring from government life. His frustration with how he was treated by the Dems is probably the main factor. He just wants out of DC.

Good for him; the problem in DC are the people who want to stay there. Ahem, Obama-Biden.

I just hope he has properly set up the dominoes for after he leaves.

Don't think many will appreciate this post besides the people here. Doyle and Moynihan look to be in court soon against the IRS/Clinton Foundation.

Get ready for the left to weaponize the IRS again now that they are returning to the EEOB and the White House.

It would be nice to see the IRS get chopped off at the knees with this before they get to go full speed ahead against anyone deemed enemies by Touch and Blow.

Wait a minute. You mean Trump has once again let a foot-dragger enter the position of AG?

Have lost any idea that anything at all will come of any of this, or any reason to change an assumption a Democrat is immune from legal risk -- but why doesn't Trump appoint a fire-breather to at least start some special counsels to carry over like Levin suggests?

Or is there possibility given the cordial letter, Barr himself is actually pretending to leave, only to become a Special Counsel with all the goods already?

Or it's quite possible, based on all his leadership picks, that Trump is pissing on his supporters legs and telling them it's raining. I voted for him twice, but I'm beginning to think he never wanted justice to prevail in this area. He just wanted to pretend that he was working on it so he could blame someone else when it goes nowhere. Time after time he has done this. Why is Wray still at the FBI?

One of Trump's quite real shortcomings, imho, is that he is not a detail oriented manager at all, but rather is almost completely hands off. He hires people, and evaluates their work in broad strokes, but largely seems to fail to ever really dig into how they...are managing people/tasks being done under their purview.

He has a ton of energy (loves campaigning/talking/fighting), and the right intent etc., but I can't see how certain things like that (or Alex Acosta, mad dog, Nat sec. council staff in general, John bolton, etc.) weren't more tightly brought in for briefing updates at least by his political advisors so the...foot dragging and swamp stuff could be minimized on direct orders.

This is true, though it is hard to entirely rule out some of Pearljammin's take. There has been a peculiar failure to use even his renowned firing power as liberally as the dug-in pre-election opposition has routinely warranted. Where the alphabets are concerned, he arguably should have fired anyone brought in after Obama was elected and the last phase of Bush.

But is really hard to tell. Whether it is a Bush or Trump, the legal systems are curiously impotent when not under Democrat administrations.

Trump did finally change this...in late October 2020, but the SES is something that has been poorly covered. In addition to spying on Trump, working to have him removed etc. via the NSC, and Mueller, notice the 821 positions Obama basically created as indestructible with the stroke of a pen at DOJ.

It's a problem that will...probably be quickly resurrected in January.

Quote:

A position within the "SES" is considered the equivalent to general officer or the flag officer ranks in the U.S. Armed Forces.

For that reason, they are often referred to as our "civilian generals."

Their pay scale starts above the top level of civil service (GS-15), with base salaries ranging from a minimum of $127,914 to a maximum of $192,300.1

Ostensibly, the SES was to be a corps of non-partisan, career managers who serve as the executive management of federal agencies

Their job being to implement policy, not create it.

At least it was until then President Barack Obama changed that with a mere flick of his pen

Making SES members nearly impossible to fire, once hired.

To say Obama's transformation of the SES into an army of political operatives was effective would be a gross understatement.

There are more than 2 million federal government employees. And at the top of that pyramid are approximately 8,000 SES (Senior Executive Service) employees who service as the professional managerial class linking our political leaders to the civil service rank and file. And Barack Obama as president, replaced more than 6,000 members of the 8,000-member SES during his two terms, assembling what became a stay-behind army of political operatives

So how pervasive is the SES?

Here's a list of the number of SES employees that were embedded in the following government agencies at the end of Obama's 2nd term in 2016:

  • Department of Education 86
  • Department of Housing & Urban Development 115
  • Department of the Air Force 182
  • Department of Labor 200
  • Department of State 204
  • Department of Transportation 231
  • Department of Interior 258
  • Department of the Army 261
  • Department of the Navy 326
  • Department of Veterans Affairs 357
  • Department of Agriculture 361
  • Department of Commerce 425
  • Department of the Treasury 458
  • Department of Health & Human Services 468
  • Department of Defense 478
  • Department of Energy 490
  • Department of Homeland Security 639
  • Department of Justice 821
  • All Other Agencies (all non-Cabinet level agencies) 1,796
And it wasn't just a purge of patriots from governmental agencies

The SES' are the princelings of the Deep State awaiting the call to a Congressionally confirmed appointment.

The SES within the DoD and military services are the inertia that resists change directed by uniformed leadership. SES Executive Directors don't have to be overtly disobedient because they need only drag their feet in implementing policies that they do not like because their uniformed boss will be gone in a year or two. SES's stand guard over hoards of budget authority hidden within their organizations like Smaug the dragon and let it go to waste spent on what they want instead of what is actually needed. The reform of the SES program should include rotations to new organizations with new bosses and leaving behind all budgetary authority from a previous assignment at intervals from no longer than 3-4 years.

I hate redactions.

There is absolutely no point in this redaction, none.
Quote:

At one point, Obama asked whether there was any evidence of collaboration between the Trump campaign and Russia, but any response that may have been recorded in Brennan's notes is redacted.
Among the latter, under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”
