Have they interviewed anyone that was staying in a room near him at the time? Can't imagine what that must've sounded like. That would be crazy being right across the hall.

This was so highly premeditated... he wasn't "set off."

agreed in the short term but.....

something set him off to make this premeditated plan.

You don't often see seemingly passive 64 year olds with no criminal history suddenly murder 50+ people.

Without a doubt they would have, but if they had already left Vegas, they'll have to track them down.

I don't know why people are even talking about the do not disturb thing.

When I travel for work, I put it on my reservation to include extra towels for the week - usually give them a number. Then have the DND up all week so I have to worry less about someone coming in and messing with the room.

Saw on guy on Reddit who was one floor below. He thought it was construction work/jackhammer and went to management to complain about the noise and the elevators not working (not working because of course they shut them down).

The mind does crazy things in that situation.

No bubble baths, but I DO enjoy my six-jet shower with the rain head above. I guess that is a bit cucumbery.

I generally use a towel twice.

This is actually a good point.

This whole thing is really weird. I'm sure as time moves forward, there will be some major details that are not being shared.
A small civil aviation plane wouldn't have been able to do as much damage.
I would disagree. A twin engine plane descending straight into a tight crowd would be devastating.
Not 58 dead +515 injured devastating.
Like 580 dead + 5150 injured devastating.

Why do you have to read more into my statement than what is there?

Did I say the current numbers were no big deal?
The worst air show disaster in history was from a SU-27 crashing into a crowd of people. They go much faster, hold a lot more fuel, weigh much more, and are far more damaging than small civil aircraft. Yet that only killed 77 people. Nothing close to 580.

There was a case of a twin engine planes crashing into crowd of people. It killed 4 (including the pilot) and injured 12. We aren't talking about 737 here. Small aircraft are extremely light. They flip over and crash within a few feet when landing perpendicular to a plowed field. Crashing into people would stop it really quickly.

Obviously it was highly premeditated but you don't just start thinking about scouting a Las Vegas hotel to go shoot people thirty stories above a concert across the street. Something set him off to go plan this

Like 9/11, the realty of the situation didn't sink in because it's so extraordinary. People on planes think differently these days. People in crowds and large tourist areas will begin to do so, too.

I knew 4 or 5 people shot at Luby's in 1991. I think differently when choosing seating in public today.

Kind of disagree here. He might have been scouting potential locations/venues/upcoming events for months. He was a gambler according to some reports. Using gambling as a cover for his recon missions? Even better if he was a big loser, casinos love 'em and comp the hell out of them.

In the case of the SU27 crash, people weren't packed in like they were at the concert.

On that twin engine crash, if you're talking of the one I think you are, the plane clipped several trees and was breaking apart before anyone on the ground was hit, and again you're talking about loose debris going into a group of 500 people spread out at the park.

That's a big difference from 22K people packed shoulder to shoulder at a concert, let alone the resulting fireball.

I heard about this festival back in January when I was in Vegas and I decided to sign up for the newsletter for ticket updates. Long story short, my buddy hurt his back so we cancelled our trip and I ended up going to Vegas for opening weekend of college football instead. I stayed at MGM but spent quite a bit of time at Mandalay Bay because it was the only place I could win.

It is the quiet ones who are the real threat and there is almost no chance to stop them. People who make noise about what they want to do are usually stopped.

The last hotel I stayed at had a hangtag which indicated that you wanted to participate in a program to save water by having housekeeping not change anything out for three days.

Maybe Mandalay Bay has a similar program.
I used to travel a lot. Most of my trips were 3-4 days, sometimes 5. I almost always kept the do not disturb sign on the door. In the off chance I ever needed a towel or two, they were not hard to get. Not sure why people act like it's some crazy red flag to stay 3 days somewhere and forego housekeeping. They're just going to make your bed and change towels. But most hotels come with more than enough towels to last 1-2 weeks for an individual.
I used to live out of hotels while contracting. Longest stay was about 4 months. Though at least two other multi month stays. I lived there fully. Even used my own TP and towels and cleaned. I basically treated it as a condo. DND hanger was on the entire time. I was in and out all day though and very friendly with the staff so no reason for them to red flag me.

So, a concert with 23,000 people packed in at 3 people / 10 sf(this could be higher at a concert):

Beechcraft Baron coming in low, not perpendicular :

~4000 lbs @ 230 mph
37' wingspan

takes out on average the first 15' of people it hits

37'x15'= 555 sf = 185 people + collateral damage from debris.

This doesn't even assume fuel and the impending conflagration. I think these are conservative numbers because you could get a bigger twin engine plane especially if you have money like this guys supposedly did. In your examples, I would assume the pilot was trying to avoid casualties also, not inflict them. I'm no aviation expert but I understand the basics of physics. I don't think this is far fetched.

airshow crowds are usually spread out over a large area - along the runways on both sides and all the way down which is typically a mile or mile and half and they are typically spreading out to get room as you are looking UP primarily....not around a fixed point of focus (a stage). They also can run back and away from anything typically.

thats not like 25K packed into a small area with limited entrances/exits.

They said earlier he had 10 suitcases in his room. If the guns were broken down, it would be very easy to bring them in and given how many people are constantly going in and out of these hotels, very unlikely anyone would notice or pay it any mind.

Especially over several days.

One suitcase at a time raises no suspicion and every 12 hours would be a different staff.
