There have been rumors about this for a couple years now - with reports of it being partially shot at the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan (yes, Bryan-College Station), where Holmes is currently being held - but no one knew if it was a show or a movie or what, and there's been no other word… until now. With not only a surprise October release date announcement by A24 just now, but a "secret screening" premiere announcement of the movie itself tonight at the Telluride Film Festival, from which reports should start flooding social media here in the next few hours…

Take these with the usual very-first-screening / premiere-buzz grain of salt, but Fielder's never disappointed me once, so I'd like to believe it really is at least good, if not incredible. Either way, I can't wait...

I'm wondering what this doc could actually be about that would make it as compelling as some of the reviews claim. Her story is well known so I doubt there are any new revelations about the criminal case. This doesn't seem like it is another of the docs with "new info that challenges the guilty verdict".

Does she bare her soul and admit to everything including faking her voice or does she put out a sob story?

I would find a doc where she actually takes full ownership of what she did fascinating.

I doubt that anything compelling about this doc would be around the case and its details. Defrauding investors, overpromising, and underdelivering happens regularly. I would think that the most compelling thing is peeling back the psychology behind people who are willing to go down this route. We've seen that before with other docs, sure. But a live-in experience with the subject itself? That part is interesting to me. I mean, look at her eyes dude.

I would bet they do a great job putting together the timeline of how she got here with lots of other people's stories being interviewed.

The variety review spoils the hook of the doc and yes it is quite compelling

Exactly.

Ha, plus, it's inevitably going to be more about how awkward and uncomfortable Fielder is going to make the whole thing.

In other words, I would not go into this expecting a traditional documentary in any way, shape, or form.

Also, an official blurb finally released, and Fielder basically spends the last 30 days prior to her going to jail, with her and her husband, and her husband is apparently a massive sociopath in his own right, steals the show at times, etc. Then it sounds like parts of it take place at the prison itself in Bryan, after she's finally in jail.

All of that said, I'm avoiding the "twist," so that's all I know and all I want to know.

Ok, so she was smart enough to get into Stanford and well-connected enough to fool people into investing in a technology that she couldn't really ever make live up to the hype, so much so that she was convicted of fraud.

So to counteract that narrative, she allows someone to film her life for a documentary prior to going to jail, to change the whole narrative around about herself.

And the person she allows in is not Werner Herzog, Not Errol Morris, not Ken Burns, but.....Nathan Fielder.

Oppenheim has had some pretty good documentary credits to his name, but seriously. Nathan Fielder.

Did she not google "Nathan Fielder" prior to agreeing to this?

Fielder and Oppenheim almost assuredly approached her, and Holmes, being the narcissist she is, probably couldn't resist the opportunity/limelight, even knowing how Fielder, especially, would likely portray her (or, rather, would give her enough room to be her raw, insane self). Also, there's no direct evidence that she's doing this "to change the whole narrative about herself." Maybe she simply wants people to see another side of her (mother, wife), likes Fielder's work, doesn't mind Fielder's brand of exposure and long as it's exposure, etc. Either way, she's a deranged woman with likely deranged motivations.

My neighbors were at the same wedding as Fielder this summer. Said he didn't bring a date, hardly talked to anyone, and accidentally dropped a glass of alcohol on the dance floor, bringing the dancing to a halt. They said he was super awkward and I've never been more jealous in my life...

Well at least it appears she dropped her weird deep-voice thing and has stopped pretending to be Jobs-adjacent with her wardrobe choices since she has all the time in the world now.

I still cant tell if Nathan is an attempting to pull off an elaborate bit, or if that is really just him being himself. I think that's one of the things that makes me continue to watch whatever he makes.

This is going to be wild.

Also, I really need to know where Fielder went/ate, if anywhere, in BCS. He was apparently there multiple times visiting Holmes in prison. The thought of him doing basically anything around town fascinates the hell out of me.

You're messing with me, right?

She's a narcissist, as you have already said, and a chameleon to be what other people want her to be. If that's a FOUNDER, she's there, with her deep voice and black Jobsian-turtle neck. If it's the sympathetic "mom" who is being sent to jail because she attempted to fly too close to the sun on wings of wax, I guess that's what we will see in this doc.

Totally unexpected, I just didnt see Nathan Fielder to be the one to expose it.
