I am super late obviously but I watched Gone Girl for the first time last night.

didnt even think Affleck was good in this. The movie was okay. Ending was awful.

Always heard this movie was great. No thanks.

Gone Girl is a classic I can watch over and over again.
Sure it's a bit over the top.
It's a movie.
It isn't that far fetched though.

I always take **** for this, but I didn't like Forrest Gump.

For a more recent film, I'd say Elvis. I just didn't think Austin Butler was convincing as Elvis and too many parts of the film looked distractingly animated.

Parasite.

Black Panther.

It's a Wonderful Life.

Casablanca.

Hated the first time watching these hyped movies, but ended up loving them (there might be a connection): Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Lost in Translation. Absolute snooze fest. And Scarlett Johansson developing feelings for Bill Murray, 34 years her senior, was less believable than any Marvel movie.

- Black Panther
- Django Unchained
- I would say Star Wars 7-9 but were they really overhyped?
- It's a Wonderful Life: so overhyped I've never even seen it

Gone Girl was pretty good IMO, Affleck/Pike were casted well and Fincher is the probably the only director who could pull it off. Still, the book was better. Needs that inner monologue and Amy is like 2x as effed up in the novel.

My choices...Deer Hunter (honestly quite a few 70s classics), Once Upon of Time in Hollywood (and I love Tarantino), I think every PTA movie except Boogie Nights.

Lost in Translation was one of the catalysts that ended my obsession with indie movies. From 98-2003 when it came out, I was obsessed with indie flicks, probably watching 1 a week on average, going to indie theaters a lot etc. That movie made me take a step back and wonder if I was just watching all these movies as a counter culture thing, regardless of how good or not they were. I know the whole indie movie scene in general changed quickly not too long after that time and today, I don't even know how one defines an indie flick or not, but I'll never forget how insanely overrated and boring that movie was

My personal list of overrated:

Black Panther (totally agree here, just didn't get the hype)
LaLa Land
Mean Streets (Love Deniro, Love Scorcese, Love Pesci, but this movie wasn't it for me)

I'm sure there are more, but off the top of my head

Heat. Maybe I would like it if I'd seen it closer to when it originally came out. We watched it for the first time within the last couple of years and it just sucks. Cheesy dialogue, over-acting, etc.

Oof, that one stings. Such a good movie. I could skip work and watch it right now

2004's Crash. That this garbage won an Oscar for best picture is a disgrace.

One I have come to change my mind on is Blair Witch Project. The hype on this movie when it came out was so dumb that I think I was preconditioned to hate it when I finally got around to watching it. Recently rewatched it with my kids after we saw Backrooms and they got interested in the found footage genre. Actually ended up appreciating it all these years later as just this small spooky indie film.

Man, the Blair Witch pissed me off so much. It was billed for months leading up to release as real footage found, and this whole backstory that in 2000 seemed plausible and super creepy. Then, like 2 days before the release, it leaked everywhere that it was all made up. I still watched it opening weekend but that completely killed the whole vibe of the movie. Wonder if I would enjoy it now, 25 years later?

For a serious contribution, however, I submit

Everything Everywhere All At Once

is ridiculously overrated and history will be a better judge

93/79 Rotten Tomatoes?

7 Oscars???

Trying too hard to be unique and viewers trying too hard convincing themselves how awesome it was.

Hah, Blair Witch was perfect marketing that got screwed at the very end. I was right there with you. I'll never mock Gen Z or alpha as being gullible… I remember we were dumb too (probably still am dumb).

I went to see Blair Witch opening weekend, when it was only showing at small art house theaters, and I loved it. It freaked the hell out of me. Then a few weeks later I went to see it a second time and I was like, "Why the F did I like this movie so much?" I've never done such a 180 on a movie.

Yeah I'm definitely in the minority. That's why I think it would be different if I'd first seen it closer to when it came out. It's like old song lyrics that just sound dumb today. It doesn't matter because you've loved the song for 40 years.

Usually any movie that wins Best Picture and I have not seen it, ill find it on a streaming service and watch it.

Dear Hollywood,
How in the name of Zeus's butt hole ,did CODA win best picture. Did the voters all stroke out and push the wrong button. What the actually F***. There's an hour and 40 minutes of my life I'll never see again.
My demon woke me up this morning and said bruh, I'm tired... So I handed him a Red Bull and said come on little buddy, we got bridges to burn and chaos to spread.

Everyone at work couldn't stop talking about it when it was first release and I finally saw it many years later and I could not figure out what the big deal was.
