The Rotten Tomatoes critic's aggregate is currently "rotten" given the percentage of bad critics reviews.

And this is coming from a guy who went to the theater opening weekend to see Tron Ares. And I liked it so much that I bought it. My bar is not set very high folks!

For those who have seen this, does it stray from pushing woke propaganda and degeneracy? This type of movie was never going to be in my wheelhouse, but trying to determine if my little girl might enjoy it. They can't really detect "cringe" yet in the way we can, but they are highly susceptible to liberal propaganda...over time at least.

It's a movie about a female super hero. You should expect some level of girl power. She's going to beat up some dude who is five times bigger than her. If that bothers you, skip it.

Saw SUPERGIRL. Craig Gillespie came up with some pretty cool shots. Lobo is fun. But the big question is who is this for? Because it is very, very violent. Also I guess I missed the controversy on this one but when did this turn into another culture war film with conservatives review bombing it before it came out? Is it just because it's a female superhero who some incels don't find attractive?

Gunn's style I think has been overplayed at this point but I don't recall him being captain woke in any of his material before.

Its not "conservatives review bombing it". Before regular joe blow audiences were even allowed to enter their reviews on sites like RottenTomatoes the "real critics" like Variety were dissing this movie, and none of their criticism was based on culture-war complaints.

And James Gunn has always been left-leaning and it shows to some degree in his work, just go watch Peacemaker. But it'll only annoy you if you let it, otherwise its easy to dismiss and still enjoy his work for what it is (although his style is getting over played at this point).

Unfortunately you have to question every film that comes out and what's really unfortunate is even asking a question if a movie has these controversies is a terrible thing.

Yeah but all of these controversies are pretty apparent beforehand and discussed beforehand. Something happpened where the talk on this movie did a 180 with "woke" concerns I'm just wondering what happened. Usually it's a DEI casting choice, trans actor, gay couple, gay kiss, etc that has everyone up in arms but I don't really see that discussion just boooo girl power?

This is what my wife said. She didn't know anything going into it, and was really surprised on the violence and adult themes in it. She said she definitely wouldn't recommend it for young kids

when the lead actor told the world the problem was Christian dads and the world collectively went "wait, there's a supergirl movie coming out?"

Any controversy of that sort is related to interviews with the lead actress Milly Alcock. I won't go into it here, but she gave some answers that if you really wanted to take offense you could. I wrote them off as just unpolished answers from a young actress who needs more media training and experience.

If you were to compare this to...say...Rachel Zegler and Snow White, this doesn't come close to all the epic amounts of dumb from that...you had Rachel right of the gates denouncing the source material and saying snow white "doesn't need to get saved by a prince" (which was hilarious because obviously the film was changed for that exact thing to happen)....then you had the "free palestine" stuff partnered with an isralei co-star...and THEN you had the whole, "if you vote for trump dont go see my movie."

....this film is no where near on that level....like not even close....

ive heard rumors that milly alcock was difficult to work with but that doesn't really amount to anything by itself....

the only issues i've come across was an article where she said something to the effect of, "if we're pissing off christian dads that's ok" or something to that effect.....and then there was an interview recently where she talked about being excited about supergirl being a gay icon or something to that effect and that was due to being asked a specific question from that angle....likely a scenario that doesn't happen if we're not in the month of june....

now...i would in no way blame these few things on the box office performance of this film...i would've expected it to have a rough opening weekend no matter what if the film was good or bad simply because this was a bad idea from the start to be the second movie in the new DCU....IF this movie was really good i do feel word of mouth would've helped it pace out much better but we now know it's no where near good enough for that to happen....

but...i feel there's going to be more to come...after this thing bombs this weekend i wouldn't be surprised to see at least one article proclaiming that sexist men can't stand to see a strong woman on screen and that's why it failed....

so we'll see....

It's a D.C. movie. My expectations are low as a result.
