I still love going to the movies, especially for action-type movies that just aren't the same at home.
But this....
I bought 4 tickets for a movie tomorrow night, for the family. With fees/taxes, it was $70.
If we just get a couple popcorns to share & sodas, we're looking at another $70ish.
$150 for a movie and popcorn is crazy.
I know some might say "it's my choice", but that's the point. It's a choice, and I have other options...which is why I dont see nearly as many movies in the theatre as I used to; and I love going. I just wait for one that's 'theatre worthy', instead of just going to see most the movies that interest me. And despite my best intentions, I miss a lot of them when they go to streaming (forget about them, dont have that streaming service, etc)...whereas in the past, it's what we'd do on Friday night.
I asked my son recently about taking his gf to the movies. He said he would more often, but it's just so expensive. And you know what, he's right. It was always viewed as a cheap date option, but that's changed. It's now a pretty dang expensive option for young people.
I think that has more to do with it, than anything else.

Then there's the cost, and buddy that's where things really start getting sideways. Going to the movies used to be a cheap night out. Now it feels like you're budgeting for a minor road trip. By the time you buy tickets, grab popcorn, maybe a drink, you've spent enough to cover a couple months of streaming
