Also, I have an extremely hard time finding any desire to watch shows with commercials.

The only reason I watch fallout is because I played 3, 4 and new Vegas and loved the games. Otherwise, I wouldn't be watching, specifically because of commercials.

I think a lot of people feel similarly. We are already paying for the damn service, stop trying to further nickel and dime me, *******s.

You're not willing to pay $2.99/month for the two-month duration of the show to not watch commercials? Also, every major streamer does this now, and Amazon's up-charge is by far the cheapest (especially considering all the other benefits you get with a standard Prime membership). The streamers finally realized that TV doesn't work without ad revenue. It literally can't exist on subscriptions alone. Not only that, but they make more money off their ad-tier subscribers than they do their premium subscribers. So in some instances they're actively trying to price out premium subscribers, hoping the cost is simply too much, they'll relent, and just drop to the ad tier.

I don't want to derail this thread with non fallout talk so I'll be quick. Suffice to say, it is not about money, just principle. Advertisements/commercials annoy me. I will deal with them for aggie sports and an occasional show (the only two I can think of are wheel of time and fallout). Otherwise, I'm pretty uninterested in the whole commercial + TV business model. I'm not trying to "take a stand" with my money or anything silly like that; I just don't want to watch commercials and so I'm not going to.

I use firefox + uBlock so I don't get ads while browsing the internet. I have an android so I can block ads on my phone. I use vpns to watch content on Netflix and Disney+ (significantly more/different content depending on country and no ads).

Seeing the desk fan in the Vault-Tec lobby triggered me.

And then him grabbing it to "craft a weapon".

They knew exactly what they were doing.

I literally opened the thread to post the exact same thing. The desk fan and typewriters had me itching. Absolute gold mine of loot.

The set designers continue to do an absolutely amazing job bringing the world in the game to life.

The commercial debate is cracking me up bc I had a similar experience with my son. I told him to watch Andor bc it was the best thing out there. Next time I see him, he said he couldn't do it bc of all the commercials.

I did not say anything to him bc I knew it would be a waste of time. But I thought to myself, is that not the perfect time to check all the crap on your phone I see you typically doing when watching TV?

My self, commercials don't bother me bc that's what I do, take care of things around the house, grab a snack or drink and get back when they are over.

I love their detail to keeping everything visually accurate.
The tops, lucky 38, Gomorrah, silver rush, atomic wrangler. It's all like it is in the game. So great to see it in real life and done so well.

I really have to say the set design and costuming in this show is just perfect. I feel like I am watching a cutscene from the game instead of an amazon show, so very well done.

And the adherence, dedication, and faithfulness to the IP is just incredible. Im glad that even people that haven't played any of the games are enjoying it. It's a treat. And I'm not really a fanboy of anything else.

I'm older now, of course, but I played FallOut 3 shortly after I graduated. I played it a lot since I graduated a few weeks before Lehman Brothers went under and the Great Recession occurred and it took me a few months to find a job. After that, I was absolutely hooked.

It's crazy to me because it's so easy to say "see the game? Just make that. Exactly that." But too many directors think they know better or something and try to do their own thing.

It has made me get back into them. Been playing some FO4 and FO3. Have 76 reinstalled just have not started it back up since been playing 4.

I can't pin it down but something about this world really just draws me in since I played FO1 way back in the day. Just find the concept of world built so intriguing. I have always though the concept of this game was made for a show to be built around it and so glad they are doing it and keeping it as close to the source as they can.

Can't wait to see how they wrap up this season,

I think Hank (and Barb) is tied to the Enclave and kinda hope they do come back into the world more so. I don't feel the show has really hit on how evil they are. I think that is who Mr. House is referring to in the flashback. In game lore shows them outed by the Boston Bugle right before the Great War (2077). And they were embedded in everything, including Vault Tec.

Agreed, though I do think that they have it a bit easier for Fallout, since it's such a well-realized world, especially New Vegas.

"This" game? Which game are you referencing?

You have the original Fallout and Fallout 2. Then Bethesda bought the IP and made Fallout 3. They then licensed the IP out to Obsidian, who made Fallout: New Vegas. Then Bethesda released Fallout 4 about 10 years ago and released the multiplayer/online Fallout 76 a few years later.

FO1 and FO2 are severely dated and very different from the modern games. FO3 is highly regarded and was the first first-person open world Fallout game. Fallout: New Vegas may be the most highly regarded. FO4 was great as a "wasteland exploration" game and many updated mechanics, though it's viewed by the masses as being behind Fallout: New Vegas and FO3.

Can someone remind me who the enclave is? I don't know how I have seemed to miss who they are.

And I want to get it straight, Howard, who is still so famous that paparazzi types take his photo and one of the worlds biggest companies uses him in their ads, has been relegated to doing birthday parties? That doesn't seem to jive with how celebrity works. So the events that are happening in episode 5 happen before he is at the bday party in season 1.

I would start with either FO3 or New Vegas. Although New Vegas has a lot of QoL updates that you might miss if you play that before FO3. The setting and environment of post-War Washington, DC is superior to NV even if NV might be the better game.

You can probably get FO3: GOTY edition and New Vegas together for <$10 if you wait for a steam sale.

If you are watching the show, you must have a Prime subscription, so you can play Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Fallout 4 for free through Luna.

They also offer free copies of the first two games.

That's where the scientist in Season 1 was from. He stole the cold fusion tech from the Enclave.

Not too much. By this time of the show they have suffered several set backs via the previous games. But they seem like wack a commie and that they keep popping back up some way in the game.

They were not really in FO4 but were added in somewhat with the update they did last year. So don't know if that is just because it was a liked addition or if it is part of their "greater plan" with the TV show. That is why I think they may start leaning more into them. They still have the research going on in at least one locations, in the start of the first season, so I think they still have some bunkers/people to keep them going as a big bad in the universe.

With the way they are handling the universe cannon (Destruction of NCR, New Vegas, and what as been implied of the capitol wasteland) they are still keeping the Wasteland a place of great struggle for future games. They will need a place for a FO5 Vault Dweller to emerge to that will be a struggle. Not oh look the world is getting better I can just ask for help from this NCR area that is well established not not struggling and needing me to run side quests to fix, instead of playing main storyline.

IMO, FO3 is the best location. DC is just really cool in the game. NV is by far the best story. FO4 is the best gameplay.

I've only played FO3, and this might be controversial, but I wasn't a huge fan. I loved the look, feel, mood, story, gameplay. But the Bethesda grind of inventory management and food/water/drugs/radiation management really dragged it down to a game that was a slog to play most of the time. In my experience most Bethesda games insist upon themselves too much for their attempt to be too realistic.

But yes, watching this show almost makes me forget the negatives and want to replay sections of the game, or try FO4, etc.

I assume sliding under a poorly constructed fence to escape a monster who just tore down part of a building simply by standing up is definitely a callback to the game.

Inventory management is still definitely a thing even in FO4, but some of the other stuff is kind of toned down and a little less finicky, e.g., no weapon durability.

I forgot about repairing weapons, ugh.... Also, was it just me but the melee build was nonviable and every gun in the game was a slightly different version of a bad rifle.
