I think being in a blockbuster movie matters to him more than the paycheck. Based off interviews I've seen, and his general actions, I don't see him doing a streaming movie. I think he sees himself as the savior of the movie industry, and wants to only do blockbusters, even if it's not an action movie. I could see him doing a reboot of/sequel to a classic franchise/movie. Or maybe he decides to try and reinvigorate the romantic comedy genre, or something like that. Whatever it is, it's going to be in the theaters, and it's going to have a huge marketing budget.

How was Collateral NOT an action movie? Riding around in a cab as a hit man, flocking people up. 2 to the chest and one to the head as one dude is falling backwards.

Above listed movies are awesome except Eyes Wide Shut and Vanilla Sky (puro basura bruh).

I hated Vanilla Sky the first time I watched it, but it's grown on me.

Cruise was in Dallas over memorial weekend for MI opening and he went to Pecan Lodge for some BBQ, apparently he helped clear tables, taking peoples plates and what not. He left and visited some theaters and on his way to the airport he had his people call Pecan Lodge to see if he could take more BBQ back home with him.

Maybe it was a stunt but I enjoyed hearing this about Cruise.

Id like to think that Tom Cruise isn't that concerned about how much money he makes, that he just wants to make badass movies and entertain people.

From what I've seen, as long as you're not married to him, he's a pretty nice guy. He's always very good to fans and coworkers. I'm just speculating, but I don't think he has any life outside of what's on camera. At least as far as Katie Holmes and their daughter are concerned, it didn't sound like he was a good husband and he seems like an absentee father. People on set seem to love him. I've seen stories about him helping out together sets, clearing out boxes and trash, etc. He does seem to love work, and seems to treat everyone on set the same, regardless of if your a big time actor or the caterer. He also seems to be great to fans. He goes out of his way to sign autographs and shake hands.

A lot of people sleep on it, but he nailed his role in "Collateral" as well.

This is still one of my all time favorite scenes...

Maybe....but it's a stop down for me every time.

Is the Last Samurai an action flick? I've always thought Samurai and Collateral are underrated performances.

I was wondering the same thing. I don't think Last Samurai counts as an action piece. It is an excellent movie. One of my favorite Cruise movies.

think people underrate how rich people like him get on movies and how much equity his name has on a film. $40-50m from a streamer just isn't going to matter that much to him.
He's legit obsessed with working. Just like his exwife Nicole Kidman is.

These people don't stop. But they can't do it for 9figs anymore.

I mean… Cruise apparently is paid at least 10% of box office on all his films plus 10-20m in salary. His last 4 movies were Top Gun Maverick and 3 Mission Impossibles. So he's probably made 9 figures on all of those including the one that opened a month ago. So I dunno. I think he can still make 9 figures on movies.

100% an action flick. Specifically, historical action. There is one-on-one combat, battle planning, large-scale field combat. How different is it then Braveheart or Gladiator, both of which I consider to be historical action movies?

Just so happens the characters and story for all were good along with the action baked in.

To me it's sad that Last Samura gets dismissed because people got the wrong impression from the title and cover. People misunderstand this as a "white savior" movie and think that Algren is the "Last Samurai" when in reality that is Katsumoto. Great movie, another awesome Tom Cruise performance. During his era where some of his dramatic slow mo shots looked like Garnier Fructis commercials.

In what movie is he not good in? He gives it his all in every movie. Good guy, bad guy, spy, lawyer, military, civilian, pimp, assassin, race car driver, bartender, agent, producer, writer.

He doesn't need a cape or an iron suit. He is a superstar all on his own.

Outside of Top Gun 3, Cruise is never going to do a billion dollar movie ever again. Ever.

He couldn't even come close to that with the final MI- sub $600M. First dollar gross ain't gonna be a thing for him anymore. So if the best he could do is $60M on a dead franchise…

When a streamer comes calling with $40M- he's coming.

He co-produces all of his moves. If you think his earnings on the Mission Impossible movies stops at his salary and theatrical box office cut, you are fooling yourself. On salary and box office alone, he's probably at $80m on the final MI and since he's a producer, he's also likely getting a significant cut of the bottom line earnings.

hes also waxed poetically about only doing cinema releases and seems a lot more into that than other platforms. Dude is probably the most bankable actor ever… he has zero incentive and seems like desire to make steaming service content in their bargain budget forms of making movies and TV. He's probably done more to ensure he gets more than just a salary in exchange for a studio using his name to sell their movie than anybody ever. He'd be nuts to suddenly just cede that brand to make a quick buck on Amazon Prime for Bezos to own forever.

He can't do that anymore. There is no action franchise out there for him anymore at his age.

He doesn't direct.

He WILL want to work.

(Can't go to any AMC showing without his ex-wife waxing poetic about movies, while she's done like 19 streaming shows.)

I truly don't care that much about this… but for Tom Cruise to go against the brand he's literally spent 40 years at this point cultivating, building and honing fairly meticulously to do streaming as his best bet is just a bizarre hard to ignore Texags take.

Dude has always lead massive movies franchises be damned.

I dunno saying he's got nothing left in the tank and needs to do something else in my view wouldn't be all that different to saying 'Coca Cola… I mean the world is living healthier these days. To me their best move is to slow down making Cola and go in to the baked potato chip business'

It's just… a weird take is all

I was going to say "you're right", but I'll just be stubborn instead. Collateral is more of a thriller than an action movie.

Yeah, he's definitely trying to establish himself as THE expert on hollywood here onTexags. From the box office prospects of movies to actor's future options and intentions, he's the expert so do not argue with him because he's always correct! Lol.

I feel like this is one of Tom Cruise's recent misses. I know it got good reviews, but I didn't like the movie at all despite being very interested in the topic and history/background. It didn't seem to do well at the box office either.

Tom Cruise is definitely one of the few actors who will get me to watch a movie.

I think The Last Samurai may be my favorite Tom Cruise movie. I love everything about the movie. The story, the characters, the cinematography, the score... it is just such a beautiful movie. It's also the first time I was exposed to Ken Watanabe, who I think is a fantastic actor and also love in everything he's in.
