Hell and High Water vs Inglorious Basterds was my most difficult choice. Both are great. I picked inglorious because of the opening scene, but I went back and forth.
I think if more people had seen Hell or High Water it would go really far in this field. I never even heard about it until I saw it on Netflix. It was never in more than 1500 theaters and came out at an odd time of year.

The closest vote is actually

District 9 vs. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - separated by 1 vote right now.

That's surprising to me. PotC fell off significantly after Curse of the Bkack Pearl. District 9 was such a great movie. Eh, to each their own.

I think it's just that a lot of people haven't seen District 9.
I would say Keira Knightley is arguably the hottest in Dead Man's Chest, so there's that.

So many great films in the last 25 years. The best part of that time frame has been the rise of Nolan and Villeneuve. I hope they continue to create films of the caliber we have come to expect from them for decades to come.

I thought that was the first Pirates. Oops. Wonder if others made the same mistake.

Voted District 9 either way.

Some tough Round 1 matchups.

Rush was underrated. I was not wanting to watch it but a girl I dated at the time wanted to. Glad she convinced me to see it.

First Pirates will probably make a decent run although I haven't bothered looking at later round matchups.

A field of 128 definitely sours my interest a lot of faster than 64 lol

Don't make every matchup mandatory in the next round. I don't want to throw the results voting between movies I haven't watched!
Thanks and gig'em

Anyone have a suggestion for how long to make the subsequent rounds? 2 days each? 1 day each? I don't want this thing going forever.

My vote can be used as tiebreaker.

Fury road easily should win this one. Can watch it multiple times and still be entertained. The other was a one time watch.

Let's have it at two days, please. In previous tournaments, I missed a vote not knowing when the new round started.

My wife watched it once and never again! Probably my favorite non-star wars movie ever.

There's some big time movies that didn't make the list.
Not really complaining, but just some observations.

Finding Nemo
Black Hawk Down
Zombieland
Almost Famous
Gangs of New York
Minority Report
Boyhood
Drive
Dallas Buyers Club
Sicario
Captain Phillips
Lincoln
Zootopia
Thor Ragnorok
No Mission Impossible movies
No Fast and Furious movies
No Planet of the Apes movies
Gangs and BH Down, as well as Bagger Vance, are far better than at least 80% of the original bracket IMO.

If you make it about 1 week, it will drag on until March Madness, at which point we will all be so razor sharp on our selections we'll be dominating those NCAA brackets.

Hey, I need something to help my bracket selection because whatever I've been doing the last 18 years or so isn't working

This is what I told my daughter when she complained that Frozen wasn't included. She complained your anti snowman, and I sang, "Let it go"

Tell her I've seen Frozen 400 MILLION TIMES but I knew what would happen to it here. Same with Tangled, which is my favorite disney movie of the last 30 years

I take it we're getting a LOTR matchup.

My pick would be FOTR in any case but it would be a shame to lose any LOTR this early.

The movie in question will win the matchup, it just is going to knock another of your favorites.

Programming Note: Round 2 will start around 9-10 pm ISH tonight. I have to drive into hostile territory early tomorrow morning for a memorial service and don't want to try to get it done before hand.

Next project I do will be: Superbad & the Prestige - perfectly balanced movies.
