Holland needs to disappear for a few years and jump into some indie projects that have him completely out of his element. Pull a Pattinson and come back much better.

I too find him too one-dimensional. Hell, the guy doesn't even really have too different of a haircut in each of his movies. He needs a role that is a complete 180. Granted, he may just not have the same acting chops, similar to his wife.

Holland is next starring as Fred Astaire in a Fred Astaire biopic/musical, from the director of Paddington and Wonka. Dude can certainly dance, looks the part, and will be good hands, so it'll be interesting to see how it shakes out.

Holland and Zendaya movies just made 2 billion in about a month. Is there any duo in history that have done that? Even adjusting for inflation that seems crazy.

I have 2 teenage daughters and Tom Holland is super popular in our house.

I felt like I adapted pretty quickly to the language, with only a couple of times being a little jarring (Holland saying mom and dad just felt off. Feel like a prince would definitely say mother and father even in modern times)

Don't think we have anyone in their teens in here, probably not many early 20s either. Think I saw an interview where he stated that was a part of how we settled on more modern language style

Quick math and limited research tells me "mother" is 2700 years newer than the time the Odyssey is set in while "mom" is 3000 years newer. So I guess it doesn't matter to me, both are wildly anachronistic.

Might have quoted the wrong person here, I see your point about how a prince would talk. My point still stands though!

Watched the movie on IMAX yesterday evening.

It held my attention the entire 2 hrs & 42 minutes even though I have ADHDTV.

I enjoyed it very much.

I might go see it again in another format.

Which of the 128 pages on this thread is actual legitimate discussion of the movie, and not about politics and "woke-ism"? Saw it tonight and would legitimately be interested in honest discussion about the storylines and characters, having never read the Odyssey or the Iliad.

Just got out of a 10:40 showing in 70mm.

Good Nolan work. Not his best. Not sure how many times I'll rewatch it but it was good.

The political messaging got a little too heavy for me in the final Act but whatevs. Nolan continues to make visually pleasing movies.

I saw it tonight and did not like very much of this film and surprisingly it had nothing to do with the odd casting choices.

Yes some of the casting in this film are silly and not just Sinon and Helen. The casting of Asian and Indian guys is equally as silly but at the end of the day not why I disliked the movie. As people have said the really idiotic casting choices don't have much screen time.

The reason I disliked it so much was it was just plain boring. The action scenes were not very compelling and the story was just flat to me. Three hours of run time with no payoff in my opinion.

The dialogue was really bad at times. There is the obvious others have mentioned like the Bronze Age comment but does anyone really think Odysseus would say he was going back to Ithaca to "assess the situation ?" He actually says it twice and both times I just scoffed.

I didn't see any impressive acting here outside of Hathaway and Legiuzamo was good. Page was awful in a limited role. Damon forgettable. Holland was ok but was just Peter Parker in cosplay and his character really didn't do much in the movie other than go to Sparta and attend a feast and go back. Bernthal and Pattinson weren't terrible. Zendaya was forgettable to me as all she did was scowl through the movie, they easily could have replaced her with a nobody and it wouldn't have made a bit of difference to me.

I thought Nolan flubbed the giant cyclops scene resulting in a boring mess. Pretty much half the movie is Odysseus and crew sailing somewhere and getting off a boat only to get in trouble and run back into the boat and leave again.

What was up with Telemachus' costume in the end when he is King? He had on what looked like plastic armor and a gold headband that made him look like Bjorn Borg.

This is the kind of movie I will never think about ever again and have no interest in a repeat watch.

That's literally what the Odyssey is.

Saw the movie last night and so here is my take:

The movie starts off strong with the horse but immediately slowed down when going through the backstory of the son and all the people that want to hookup with Matt Damon's wife. The movie picks back up again when the story gets back on Matt Damon but slows down again right around the witch plot and trying to figure out who the blonde chick is. After he gets off druggy island and makes it home, it gets super intense and has a freaking awesome ending! Overall a really good movie but I would put it behind inception all day.

A couple other thoughts:
- love how they incorporated the dune chick in the movie. It never crossed my mind how she was connected to the story but they revealed it in a way that tied in perfectly with the ending.
- I wasn't a fan of all the cameos. A couple are fine but seriously every big scene had a big name and Kept thinking 'I know that person'… felt like a distraction. Would have been fine without John Leguizamo or Calypso girl
- Agamemnon character was super badass, his stature, his mask and body armor, the underworld scene. But when it came time to reveal his identify, that was a big let down.
- How many men did Matt Damon have? It seemed like he had unlimited solders that kept dying but then it would show that he still had 3 ships full of guys.
- I'll say again, the ending was awesome

Odysseus canonically left Troy with twelve ships. At ~50 men per ship, he started off with about 600 men.

I'm glad it got what it needed but my daughter has crossed this off her list so I'm good until streaming.
I'm sad that we didn't hit 200 pages on this though.

I would suggest seeing it in the big screen. It's an epic. Needs an epic experience. Streaming at home is going to be very meh for this film, I think.

I drove 1hr from the house to watch it at an IMAX 70mm theater... during the show I was contemplating that drive was worth it. I know that this was digital since I live in Houston and noticed the screen shrunk down to 1.9:1 at the start of the movie. I don't think it took away from the experience

I'm not sure I can do this for a 3-hour movie. I tried this with the new Avatar movies and I fell asleep in the theater both times. I don't think I've ever come that close to walking out of a movie midway.

Saw it today and really liked it. I'll give it a 9/10. Wish there was some more to make us feel like we knew more about the world and maybe some more character development. But I was very entertained the entire run time so no complaints. Would probably be a 7/10 if I watched it at home and not in a theater. Don't think it would be anything special at home bc the store isn't just awesome or anything.

That's because Avatar is the most overrated and boring movie series of all time. I never finished the first one, and will never waste another minute on them.
