Depends on the specific IMAX theater. 70mm IMAX is 1:43:1. There are some laser IMAX screens that are that exact ratio and some that are 1:90:1. The difference between a 70mm and a laser IMAX, of the same aspect ratio, is the resolution.

Which makes me crazy. My local theater is IMAX with Single Laser because the screen is not 1:43.1 just looking at it, but there is nothing at the theater or online to tell you this. You just have to figure it out on your own by eyeballing it once you are there or consult some rando's IMAX tracking site to find out.

Either IMAX format will still be a better experience than a standard theater, imo. You can always call the theater and ask. I know it's 2026 and everyone believes everything should be online, but you can still call businesses and ask them questions.

Does anyone else think Matt Damon looks exactly like Ethan Hawke, when wearing the full armor? In limited times I watched the trailers, I could have sword he was Ethan Hawke in some of those quick snippets, so I was expecting Ethan Hawke to play his second in command or something. Even while watching the movie, I thought he was Ethan Hawke when they went into the cyclops cave, lol.

This movie was Arch Manning. So much hype and name but just simply average.

Allstar cast for no reason, it didn't work for me. Matt Damon didn't fit. Anne Hathaway was just ok. Like Matt Damon, Jon Bernthal isn't versatile, he's the same character in everything. There were so many huge actors/actress names in this but they had such a limited role.

Lol... okay, then you do you.

I don't know what else to say about that. Ask for a manager. Ask who runs the projector and ask them. I don't know why it's so hard to just get answers you want. I do it all the time, in business. I guess people just hate calling others on the phone, these days. You don't live in a hole where it's impossible to get answers to simple questions. Figure it out.

Ha. Yeah, I forgot about Jon Bernthal. I like him but you are correct he plays the exact same character in every single film he's in. It's actually uncanny how little range that guy has. And the way he moves is very distinctive, so you automatically know it's him before he even opens his mouth or you see his face.

He can't escape who he is which would seem to be the worst trait ever for an actor.

lol he does have a 'type cast' but it works as Meneleus. The younger brother of a Emperor King who was ****ed would have some anger/bro issues and Bernthal definitely knows how to throw that pitch lol. I think he was perfectly cast.

Yeah, I don't think his casting was bad. Just laughing at how he's the same character in everything he does.

Interesting that we heard a lot of costume and armor complaints prior to release, then in the actual film there's pretty much unanimous agreement that they all looked great.

Not to be argumentative, but I've read and heard the complete opposite from quite a few reviewers. That the costumes looked like something from a cheap tv production.

You didn't like the GigaChad armor?

I actually thought it worked really, really well in the movie to present Agamemnon as almost a force of nature amongst men that is humbled and broken by his hubris, greed, and destruction.
Lathspell

That's how I viewed it as well, which is why I'm glad we really don't see his face for long. If it was the actor's face I saw all the time, he would have lost some of his gravitas. His face was kind of like the shark in Jaws. Much more threatening when you don't actually see it.

I don't have any issues with the costumes in this movie. I think everything lent itself to the spectacle/image that Nolan was going for.

For me, the best acting in the movie were Anne Hathaway and Pattinson. Damn was Damon, which is neither distracting nor outstanding, for me.

Both were great. I might have to give the nod to Pattinson from the layman's view of how could that guy ever play Batman? Dude has good range.

Pattison played the false bravado mixed with petulance so well. John Leguizamo was also outstanding.

Dammit...how did I not know that he is in this? Definitely won't be paying to see this in theaters now. What a horrible hateful person.

Oh agreed I thought it was going to be corny from the trailers but it was great in the movie.

That's pretty much how he's supposed to be from the epic. Bloodthirsty alpha monster emperor king of Mycenae.

I have no issues with someone not wanting to see a movie that has someone in it they can't stand. I can't stand Sean Penn, and will do whatever I can to not watch him in a movie.

ETA: I don't view Leguizamo as hateful as much as I view him as a complete idiot. Whatever comes out of his mouth is so imbecilic, I don't take it seriously.

And hey! As a half-Colombian, I get to have an opinion on his takes!

The cope is strong with this one.

It's hard to believe people are still posting this kind of slop in the wake of the movie being well on its way to probably the most successful of the year financially, critically, and among general audience - considering that trifecta, to this degree, rarely ever happens.

But sure, the vast majority of the millions of people who have seen the movie so far are just cockroach-eating sheep. Surely the issue doesn't lie with those who are culture-war obsessed and clearly in denial. Nope, it's everyone else who's crazy! That's it!

And let me guess... you still haven't seen the movie for yourself, have you?

Great actor, but I also cannot stand him...largely for the same reasons. I own two Colombia Mens National Team jerseys and was pulling for them in this World Cup, so I get to chime in as well.

Me neither.

But Hardcore Greg didn't say he can't stand Robert Pattinson.

He made a judgment claim about his character, calling him "a horrible hateful person," which is just... baffling, considering Pattinson is known for being incredibly nice, approachable, and even kind of a goof. Like, I've never heard a single remotely negative story about him. I've also never once heard him express a political opinion of any kind. He's notoriously private and hardly, if ever, delves into that stuff. He's just... a great actor, a husband, a new dad, and that's basically it. Unless there's something I'm completely unaware of.

Regardless, if someone doesn't want to watch a movie because it features an actor they don't like, great. That's relatively common, and no skin off my back.

But HG has a habit of doing this. He comes across as an uber-moral purists whose posts are almost exclusively political or culture war in nature. In The Invite thread - a movie that is not at all political, in any way, shape, or form - he demanded to know if Seth Rogen's character did any liberal ranting/preaching in the movie. He said that was the deciding factor as to whether he would see a universally praised comedy or not, and it got so weird that staff ended up deleting most of the conversation around it (the posts weirdly scolding Rogen for being childless still remain).

My point is, he uses this board to do nothing more than virtue signal, pearl-clutch about "degeneracy," etc. To the point where his Pattinson post is not just eye-rolling, but confusing as hell.

I just thought it was a funny comic.

TIL Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Toy Story 5 had the biggest opening weekends of the year.

Quote:

The top domestic (North American) and worldwide opening weekends for 2026 include:

  • The Super Mario Galaxy Movie: The animated video game sequel set the bar for the year, pulling in an estimated $372.5 million globally ($131.7M domestic) during its debut. [1, 2]
  • Toy Story 5: Pixar's massive hit became the biggest domestic opening weekend of the year, bringing in $159.6 million domestically and an estimated $312 million worldwide. [1, 2]
  • The Odyssey: Christopher Nolan's historical drama achieved the biggest live-action domestic opening of the year, earning $124.5 million domestically and $264 million globally in its opening weekend. [1, 2, 3]

Not exactly a stellar year for movies so far, huh?
