I walked out of The Odyssey knowing it wasn't the best 2026 film I've seen this week.

Odysseus's South Asian second-in-command may be onscreen as much as Anne Hathaway.

The petite Page's Sinon the Infantryman character from The Aeneid has a lengthy scene where Achilles should have been.
The Kenyan lady plays two famous roles.
Massive suspension of belief.
Zendaya is a drag as Athena because her downturning mouth naturally forms a huge frown, so she looks less like a goddess than a disapproving HR lady. Believe it or not, I once saw a movie, 2017's "The Greatest Showman, "in which Zendaya was pretty. But she’s been a downer since. pic.twitter.com/Z6nGf9ZcN5

"The Odyssey" is about how Bronze Age travel was so slow that it takes Odysseus ten years to traverse the 675 nautical miles home from Troy to Ithaca, and Menelaus needs a couple of years to get back to Sparta.

So how did a Kenyan, a South Asian, and various Chinese get there?

Greece hasn't made any good movies because they're still waiting on the $299 billion that it claims Germany owes it from World War II. I'm not making that number up.

Why doesn't Nolan's Odysseus speak to Achilles in Hades, like he does in a hugely famous scene in Homer's Odyssey?
— Steve Sailer (@Steve_Sailer) July 18, 2026
Why did Nolan toss in Virgil's character Sinon, who isn't in Homer, instead of Achilles?
Presumably, because poor little Ellen Page couldn't play Achilles.
IMAX will begin selling tickets for “Untitled Christopher Nolan Film July 20, 2029” next week.

As in The Dark Knight Rises, Nolan argues for Tory virtues such as property, stability, and law and order.

Oh my gosh who cares???
It's utterly irrelevant whether it was a prop or he was actually reading it.
It's just a fun little coincidence that someone captured, showing Matt Damon reading/"reading" The Odyssey on a movie set, given the fact that he would go on to play the titular character 28 years later.
That's it.
I simply thought, "Oh, that's neat" and gave it no more thought than that. I then took about five seconds to post it and now of course people have to treat it like the Zapruder film for some insane reason.

Ben Shapiro's opinion should never be trusted.
