I didn't know that people were up in arms about the movie or that there was any controversy whatsoever until earlier this week when I found this thread.

It's wild how important this is to some people while it didn't hit my radar as anything other than a cool looking movie.

This is lazy and disingenuous. But it's in line with the good old "Have you ever coached before? No? Then you have no right to ever complain about what you see on the field!"

What i'm taking from all the reviews is that this is exactly like every other Nolan movie.....there's going to be 1/3 of the audience who land right in the middle, 1/3 who absolutely love it, and 1/3 who loathe it.

I swear every Nolan movie is like this. The only exception might be The Dark Knight. But none of his other movies are consensus all time greats by the general audience. I have Interstellar in my all-time top 5 while a lot of people think its garbage. Nolan really is pretty polarizing.

Anyone calling Dunkirk a terrible film immediately loses all credibility. There are reasons one might not have liked the film or been entertained by it, but it's objectively an amazing piece of cinema just from a technical and aesthetic standpoint. It contains some of the coolest shots and sequences in any movie ever.

I don't know that saying it is in the lower tier of HIS filmography = saying it is a terrible movie. I personally liked Dunkirk quite a bit, that wasn't really the takeaway from that post that jumped out to me. Dunkirk is pretty solid.
