Got out. Wife and I liked it. Thought they did a good job with telling the story. Anyone who says it is insulting to the source material never actually read the poem. It included most of the vignettes and told in a fairly similar style to the poem. There are things I didn't like but I'll move to the spoiler thread

Just go see it on the biggest screen you can imo. I saw it on the cinemark XD and it was awesome. If I can make 70mm down the road I will, my experience was plenty good.

Look, IMO here there are IMAX, 70mm, and 70mm IMAX, which are, believe it or not, three entirely distinct formats.

Please do not fall below these lines, and we need to be willing to drive to avoid a "conventional" theatre

Great, so until you see the movie and have an original response then that's that

Saw it tonight, really enjoyed it. Probably my third favorite Nolan movie. My biggest criticism would be the first hour is very slow, and then the last two hours feel a bit rushed. Could have moved through the first act quicker and more evenly spaced and given more time to the better parts of the movie. There's a portion of the movie where you're just immediately hopping from important event to important event at lightening speed and for people without a decent understanding of the lore/source material it might get a bit confusing. Outside of that though I really can't say anything bad about it. The visuals, music and most of the acting was superb.

The only roles that end up feeling miscast are Holland and Page. Holland is fine but he just didn't fit the role, and honestly feels a bit too old. As I recall Telemachus is a child for most of the story and is in his late teens by the end. Holland is 30 and just feels too old and "grown up" for the part he's trying to play.

Page admittedly felt weird, even in the context of a girl pretending to be a boy. I guess they were going for the meek look since the character is forced into the war against their will? The real issue is the speech in Hades that is written well but lands very soft coming from Page. That should have been one of the best scenes in the movie.

Zendaya is good and there ends up being a very specific reason she's portraying Athena. It actually ends up being one of the more clever and deep moments of the film.

Without spoiling the movie, it becomes clear why they cast Lupita Nyong'o to play Helen. It lands just fine IMO.

Patel, Leguizamo, Bernthal, Theron and Pattison are great. Samantha Morton is barely on screen at all but gets more out of a few minutes than just about anyone. Anne Hathaway steals the show turned in a career performance IMO. She should win an Oscar for this. Matt Damon is fine but honestly kinda gets lost in the shuffle because so many other performances stand out more.

The best part of the movie are the action/battle sequences. Kind of a mix of Gladiator and 300. In fact gladiator was the last movie I can think of that really nailed chaotic sword/shield combat like this. It's A LOT to take in IMAX.

Overall it's a really good movie in terms of plot/acting with elite presentation/packaging. In a vacuum the story and pace are flawed in some places but you end up being so awe struck by the visuals and the sounds and the colors that you quickly forget any shortcomings IMO. It's an aesthetically BEAUTIFUL film.

Easily the biggest reaction I've ever seen/heard in a theatre for a horror trailer. That jump scare got half the theatre out of their seats.

I do have an interest in seeing it and have said as such a few times. The trailers and marketing and shilling just made me less and less optimistic about how much I would enjoy it over the last few weeks.

Page 100 has been a trip.

I thought it was great. Woke has ceased to be a meaningful term at this point. Page was also fine but god Tom Holland was annoying as **** as Telemachus.

Also Agamemnon was just aura farming the whole movie
