Well, that's obviously an exaggeration. I read both it and Iliad because I wanted to because I like this kind of stuff. I also read The Silmarillion around the same time which is arguably as challenging to get through.

I can see that about Matt Damon's delivery. He just almost seems tired of acting when he's acting now. And from some of the clips I have seen of this movie, it's almost like he plays the exact same character as Interstellar.

It's almost like people have different observations and reactions to movies.

Fr though, I'm aware posts like that are hyperbole, but a lot of reviews mention typical modern virtue signal stuff that made them cringe. I get that you don't have social media, but there are reactions out there beyond you and your friends.

To be honest, for a big budget Christopher Nolan movie, I am a little underwhelmed by the reviews here on Texags so far...which I personally trust more than most other outlets, but YMMV.

And I am sorry, but the unforced error of casting Elliot Page for a minor role out of charity or whatever, just dumb. It's bad enough that some people who originally had no issue with the rumors, actually had an issue with it...she's tiny and the acting is horrible. Use CGI to actually make her look like a man (and not 5'1" at that) if you have to do this as a favor for her so that she won't fall into depression or harm herself or whatever.

I really think CN likely did this purely for her and not the audience. Not how you should make movies.

I think Lupita Nyong'o as Helen makes sense once you realize Nolan wanted both a trans and androgynous woman in the movie.

I understand that people have different reactions, but, having seen the movie, it feels like a complete misreading of the UNDERLINED themes to say its woke. It just....isn't. I can't really explain more without spoiling the end of the film for people, but thematically, its the furthest thing from woke a movie can be.

Its like saying The Dark Knight is trash because its woke. It just...doesn't make any sense.

It wasn't an unforced error, it was a deliberate way to garner full court press from critics and Hollywood average Joes, and to guarantee award consideration. That it struck normal people as cringe, after they already bought a ticket, doesn't matter to them.

Some people just have a crazily high threshold for what would smack them as woke. And the opposite is also true for some. From what I've seen and read, it isn't *full* of woke crap the whole way through, but it does have a presence. Again though, if you loved it and didn't see it that way I'm not trying to tell you you can't see it that way.

It was one of two possible things imo...THAT...or he felt sorry for her...she maybe came pleading for him begging for a role as a man because pickins are so slim and she's removed her breasts and gone all in and this could absolutely crush her if he doesn't cast her in a male role. So it was either what you mention, or an act of charity on his part, or both.

Zero chance, on his own, without those types of factors, he thinks "Ah ha! I should cast 5'1" lesbian looking Elliot Page as a Greek Warrior in my epic!". I have lost quite a bit of respect for him as a director based on this casting decision alone. It's way worse than the Helen of Troy decision imo.

I personally think Nolan was maybe a bit tired of getting slammed by establishment people for whom a fairly accurate Oppenheimer depiction didn't do enough to push *the message*, and his vision of what he wanted to do with The Odyssey both let him do it in his signature style and prove to the mob that he IS one of them and isn't a chud director. Based on their reactions, worked like a charm. Pats on the back from industry peers and money are the two things that matter.

All we've got is theories homie...both make sense but none of us know. I just know that she has essentially killed her career in her pursuit to mimic being a man.

Would be kind of funny/sad if you are right tho, and she was just using her as a "tool" of sorts, unbeknownst to her. I like to believe he felt sorry for her struggles and identity issues and wanted to help her. Who knows.

She did at one point hand Odysseus a bag of coins and look directly into the camera and say "what's in YOUR wallet?" Found it a little distracting but it was only in one scene, so no big deal.

I haven't seen this, but I'll rate it a 5/10:

1) I know my wife will fall asleep in the first 20 minutes based on comments here
2) When she wakes up for the action in the last hour she'll have to go pee
3) Being a big fan of the Vikings series I just know she's gonna ask why they are using a Viking ship and why the greek women aren't as hot as Lagertha

Also, no bucket of popcorn lasts 3 hours. What is the best break spot before the final act?
