The rumors that Page was Achilles came out in the middle of May. With how long things typically take in the film industry, the probability of them doing reshoots and edits in a month are low.

I may have to go with my daughter because she minors in film and loves to critique them (for her portfolio if she decides to go that route). I don't hold back when I'm watching either so if it's really bad, I'll be laughing the whole time. It embarrasses her but it makes for good fun. She'll laugh afterwards.
I hope I did not offend anybody with this post. If I did, please come see me at my address in my profile so we can talk.

God some of y'all are exhausting.

Have you ever heard of the pendulum effect? Many people have gotten tired of the pendulum swinging left and pushing woke this and woke that in everyone's face nonstop. It was inevitable that we would eventually get the same sort of pressure from the other side in response. So enjoy the seeds that the leftists in this country have sown until the pendulum makes its way back!

This. And I don't want anything inherently "right-wing". I find that cringey, as well. I just want to go back to the status quo we had in this country in the 90's and early 00's. Culturally, I believe these were the best times in our country's history. It has been all downhill, since.

As someone who remembers the 90s well, and very fondly, the right's nostalgia for that era is kind of amusing. That's when PC was invented, most of the cultural relevant media being made was about racism, and the gay rights movement was in full force. Also every single grunge song was about the mental illness crisis.

"Woke" clearly still exists in Hollywood, and it obviously won't ever go away completely, but I can assure y'all the pendulum is swinging back the other way within the industry as well.

Larry and David Ellison are about to own both Paramount and Warner Bros, becoming one of the most powerful families in all of entertainment, and both are clearly loyal to Trump. While Taylor Sheridan is bouncing from Paramount to Universal, taking his brand to another studio that will champion his worldview just the same. All while Angel Studios is growing / becoming more and more of a legit player. Also, not since the '90s/'00s have I seen so many movies and shows geared toward dudes, dads, middle America, etc. Not to mention, as someone who shops projects all over town, I know for a fact that Hollywood wants more and more "masculine" content.

I'm just saying, instead of concentrating only on the woke in Hollywood, both real and perceived, take a step back and look at the bigger picture, both right in front of you, and emerging, and you'll see that the leftist fever pitch of late '10s / early '20s has already dissipated significantly, and is being replaced with something increasingly balanced.

I did not have you linking a Jonathan Pageau tweet on my bingo card lol. I'll give this a watch. I think Pageau is great. He's basically a Christian philosopher and artist. I really like the way he thinks and articulates those thoughts. He's buddies with Jordan Peterson. Thanks for sharing.

Ha, no problem. I'm not the leftist some here think I am, and I have no problem with most Christian philosophers. Granted, I had never heard of Pageau before now, but he seems incredibly level-headed, open-minded, and well-read. In that video, specifically, I just love his enthusiasm combined with his considered, genuinely insightful takes. He's definitely earned a follow from me from here on out.

After a 98% on RT, plenty of non-Hollywood types loving it, and even a number of doubters admitting it's great, you've now resorted to posting reactions from 1) a guy who just watched a ****ty illegal cam rip of the movie online, and has been hating on the movie, sight unseen, for days prior to that, along with 2) a guy who still hasn't even seen the movie, but hated a minute-and-a-half of footage he randomly saw from the same illegal cam rip? Someone else who was already clearly predisposed to hating it regardless, based on the rest of his comments. And these over-the-top disgruntled reactions are somehow proof of something in your eyes?

This is so desperate, man.

People are of course entitled to their opinions, and I won't at all begrudge anyone here for not liking the movie, but good lord, dude, just let it go. You're now doing exactly what you accused me of doing, just in the opposite direction, except neither of these chuds even saw the movie in theaters, and both have a history of ****ting all over it before they even saw it, in really gross fashion too (the first guy calls Page a "*****" and both just come across as really angry people in general).

This is so sad and gross.

Oh snap, only 96% RT now. How low will it go? I wonder how the general audience will rate it. You know, all the "modern people" this movie was made for.

You do realize that rotten tomatoes is basically 10+ years into be astroturfed right? The second it became influential enough to stop people from going and seeing bad movies the movie industry moved against rottentomatoes.

And wow this website is complete garbage now. They've assumed the final form of killing an institution and wearing it skin like a suit. Ratings aren't even on the home page. It used to be one rating that was pretty good judge of movies. Then it got split into critics and average movie goers. Which was also a pretty good judge of movies.

Now its Tomatometer and Popcornmeter which blurs who gets sorted into each category.

And now there are whole campaigns to tighten reviews, spike the tomato rating like its a gamma squeeze on a stock and then blast a marketing campaign about how good of a tomato rating it is.

The "movie industry moved against rottentomatoes", eh? Very dramatic.

I guess I could give some credence to what you are saying if I never saw a big budget movie from the "movie industry" get low ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. But I do, often. Also, the site still is, at it's core, a review aggregator. The site doesn't employ the reviewers and in theory has no direct influence over them. I haven't seen the ratings from critics (and I always used "Top Critics", it wasn't just 1 score 10 years ago you could further dissect) change in their trends over the years. Of course there are marketing campaigns to seize on good reviews, that is nothing new in the Rotten Tomatoes era.

For a while it was pretty easy to discern rotten tomatoes scores.

Critic score high/ user score low: Actually a garbage movie but the media fawns over it for DEI reasons.
Critic score low/user score high: derivative summer action movie mostly worthy of wasting two hours
critic score low/user score low: Bad movie
critic score high/user score high: Good movie

Rottentomatoes has been trying to stop people from seeing critic high/user score low early and opting to not go see that movie for quite some time. Especially since Elon bought X and its harder to have social media aircover of bad movies. So they squeeze critic scores upwards and delay user scores to protect bad movies.

Its pretty obvious that this movie is going to barely cover its costs due to Nolan's name attached to it, and going to miss its mark on all other categories due to casting.

I think Redstone would agree that we should actually all be taking our kids out of school to go see this movie, supporting not only true filmmaking but also BIPOC representation in Greek mythology.

Just FYI, as I mentioned a few pages back, it's not a rap song. It's actually quite good. Very somber. I compared it to a modern / Travis Scott / Ludwig Goransson version of the type of ethereal song that played over the end credits of each of The Lord of the Rings movies. Will be available tonight at midnight eastern.

It's probably generous to say that 90%+ of Americans have no idea who Chris Nolan is, don't care, and the director will have zero impact on the decision to see this. It's only relevant to avid film followers. In the list of these films I have seen posted on this thread, I've only seen two all the way through. One was the second Batman (took my kid at the time) and the other was Insomnia which I had no idea who the director was until recently.

I think the only thing that is really going to potentially hurt the movie at the box office is the three hour run time. That's a non-starter for a lot of casual movie goers. Unless it actually does kind of suck (not saying it does).

And for argument's sake, even lets say that actually was the plan early on.

Nolan realized it wasn't working; test audiences or studio screenings didn't like it, or both, so he changed it.

And that's a bad thing?

Exactly my point. It was all fairly reasonable. Then they kept pushing the overton window for another decade and brought us to this BS.

Interesting. This reviewer claims to be very knowledgeable about the source material and he didn't like the film but says as a modern adventure story crammed to fit into the world of The Odyssey the general audience will likely enjoy it and he says his brother who knew nothing about the story loved it.

This isn't the first review I have seen complaining that CN removed the Cyclops "I'm being attacked by nobody" joke and I have seen quotes from Nolan saying he couldn't get the joke to work in the film.

well...box office results for any movie are zero indication if it's actually a good movie or not...course it sure as hell helps....

let's say this...if this thing opens wordwide to over 200 million to the tune of 225 - 250 million (approximately 150 million-ish international and approximately 85 million-ish domestically) AND THEN it still does around 120 - 140 million worldwide in it's 2nd weekend, you can pretty much say it's the best cinema since cinema was cinema....

if the first weekend is as predicted above but there's a 50 - 60% drop in 2nd weekend....then it's rather meh....i doubt it'll be any worse than that...

honestly....this one is so frieking hard to predict and get a bead on i just want to see the math i dont really care about anything else....

I know your post is tongue-in-cheek but in reality his movie won't be "all-white", it'll simply be faithful to the source material. For those of us who simply want to see the materials we love portrayed on the screen that's all we're asking. It's not racist.
