I don't consider Die Hard a Christmas movie but do consider Carry-On to be a Christmas movie.

Christmas is central to the plot due to to it being one of the busiest travel days for LAX
It's released during the Holiday Season and is being marketed as a Christmas movie

You could make the same case for Die Hard though. They are all in the building due to an office Christmas party.

but they don't have to be there for Christmas. It could easily be to celebrate a new merger, quarterly sales successes, etc. Carry On has to occur during the holiday season because that's when the busiest travel days occur. They are relying on the overworked TSA agents and the sheer volume of people to make the plan work.

Die Hard was also released in July and marketed as summer blockbuster, not a Christmas movie.

Don't get the hate, thought it's a fun way to spend an evening.

Spoilers for the end:

I did laugh that after the TSA Agent stopped an international terrorist attempt basically singlehanded, he only became an officer at LAPD. Like damn, man, surely the FBI would have taken you for that, right? Set your bar higher.
He didn't have to set the bar higher. He had a 27 year old wife that was leading operations for an entire airline at an airport. That's his sugar mama

There was a scene in the movie where Bateman and Egerton were talking. Egerton asks what Bateman's son thought of him being a terrorist. His response is that his son thinks he is in insurance....

they missed such a great joke opportunity to say that he runs a real estate company.

I enjoyed this movie and would recommend any to watch it. I thought Bateman was a great villain, and everything the TSA agent tried to do, he was there to knock him back a peg or two. There chess game was entertaining. GF not the best actress, but fine job.
The car chase scene, being CGI was awesome! That seemed pretty realistic and got my heart pumping.

There is a bit in the beginning that screams "TSA Agents are people too, damnit" but whatever, when you do so many cop, military, pilot hero movies, you're left with TSA Agents and Mailmen....

edit: I'd love to hear the defenders of Die Hard is a Christmas movie, how you would classify Carry-on. If you call DH a Christmas movie, I don't know how you don't call Carry-on a Christmas Movie. It is almost checking the box on DH's criteria and including it all in the movie.

Well yeah, duh, they're both Christmas movies!

Watched it, clever enough at the beginning, plot fell apart a bit for sure near the end.

the genius IT assistant guy in the van became a raving lunatic when he was attempting to kill the heroes girlfriend which made no sense

This. And it's why I desperately hope they do not bring him back in any of The Penguin or The Batman movies or shows.

Hard to debate this.

Miracle on 34th Street was released in May. So that's not a Christmas movie now?

Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Set at Christmas. Travels to see his family at Christmas. Christmas party. Ho ho ho. Christmas wrapping tape conceals his pistol in the pivotal moment.

This was truly my one of my only nitpicks of the movie. Bateman said to kill her in response to him not cooperating. It became his life's mission and dies trying.

But it could've been a New Year's Eve party and nothing changes.

Not a Christmas movie. Christmas adjacent, like many others. Eyes Wide Shut, Edward Scissorhands, Lethal Weapon, etc.

Then every Christmas movie is Christmas adjacent unless it is about the birth of Jesus.

I left off Christmas presents for his kids and Christmas songs off that list above, among others. Family reunited. It hits more marks than most Christmas movies.

I enjoyed it. You obviously have to suspend disbelief going in like you do with all of these sorts of movies (average Joe disrupts the plot of highly skilled professionals) and the authorities behave in ways that are almost comically absurd at times. But Bateman carries the movie (he's basically a better version of Kiefer Sutherland's character in Phone Booth) and it creates enough suspense to keep you interested.

By Netflix standards it was great. Easily better than almost every other original movie they put out but I realize that's a very low bar.

I thought it was pretty fun and entertaining, especially since you don't see this style of movie much anymore. There were some small things I nitpicked about and had to laugh that an airport bathroom on Christmas Eve was completely empty on more than 1 occasion.

This was probably the most unrealistic part of the entire movie lol, especially at LAX.

For a completely random ass movie made by Netflix that nobody anticipated and nobody asked for, it's a solid B. Worth a watch if you're just hanging out at home for a few days over Christmas.
