Had no idea who this was so I had to look her up. Surprisingly she is in not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 movies/series with the word "D***" in the title. In addition to that she has these great ones as well: "A Swingin' affair", "Head", and "The Girl with Something Extra" (a title before its time!).

Not only that, special appearance in A Swingin' Affair by Dick Dale.

I'm old. I didn't remember that Young Frankenstein came out the year I started at A&M. 1974.

People today don't realize how big she was for about a decade. Young Frankenstein. Close Encounters, Tootsie among others. She kinda fell off later, but she was an A-list star for a long time.

Always loved how she played Mr Mom. Classy, sexy, and totally endearing as a mother/wife. Probably fitting that she went so closely after Martin Mull.

Yeah, I always associate her with the Late Show. Thanks to some Letterman superfan who recorded just about every episode on the VCR, there's a bunch on youtube now. I've watched a lot of her appearances through the years.

Apparently, a lot of actresses and/or big stars would refuse to do his show in the early years because their publicists thought Letterman was a jerk or creep or something, but she wasn't afraid of him and he always appreciated her willing to come on whenever. One of her last appearances on the show after one of her first big health scares was actually somewhat emotional.

Man. That sucks.

She was great in Mr Mom.

The twins from that movie who played the baby went to a signing she was at when they their in their 20s.

She knew right away it was them and she hand seen them in 20 years.

I was just watching that appearance. She had already been suffering MS, then she had a brain aneurysm. Her appearance was shocking, having difficulty walking and what looked to be limited control of her right arm. Most of that was due to the aneurysm. She didn't want to hide what she was going through, and I thought it was an incredibly brave appearance.

Dave posted a little tribute:

Quote:

Teri Garr's many appearances on Late Night gave it a cachet and importance not possible without her. She was a first class actor and comedian and a lovely human being. A bright star and a real friend to the show. I was lucky to know her. She elevated all, and I'm sad she is gone.

David Letterman
Along with this appearance, when she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Tootsie:
