Oh yeah. I have no issue with McFarland being involved. He is an incredible show runner but can also do the humor of DCC. He is the only reason I have hope because the dude does have a lot of credibility in Hollywood. It always amazes me the caliber of actress that is Charlize Theron works with him quite a bit

I just want to see how the train system level in book 3 (?) is handled.

My son finally got me to start the series, i'm three books in and liking it a lot. Has a bit of a Hitchhikers Guide vibe to it. Super fun series and i hope they dont screw up the tv adaptation.

The worst part is what he is building up to is just getting harder to follow with the scolopendra/AI stuff. I have a feeling it is going to be an over complicated convoluted mess which is fine in some scifi material but these are essentially a popcorn flick page turner.

I agree was disappointed as well a d felt like the parts that made the books good had lost momentum. I agree simpler is better and this felt forced/rushed.

i thought book 8 was great. the lore dumps were excessive though. still looking forward to book 9!

I'm currently on this audiobook and I'm a bit confused and I'm not sure that I'm enjoying this one as much as books 1 and 2. So far it doesn't sound like this level would lend itself very well to a TV show, but I'm only on chapter 13 they just killed the war mage and fleshers of 34 so there's plenty of time for me to change my mind. In addition to not having Mordecai as their guide for the time being, we don't get him for much needed exposition.

I did appreciate the cameo of The Critical Drinker voicing Vernon, the drunken train conductor. Though looking around online a lot of readers, and the author himself, are upset about his association with the book which appears to be because they dislike his politics/commentary on movies and TV shows. It's not surprising this is primarily coming up in Reddit, which probably has plenty of fans of shows like The Acolyte, and TCD completely eviscerated that series episode by episode. I mainly find this comical that fans of this piece of fantasy literature have somehow figured out a way to enjoy it less. I guess some people can't be happy until they can figure out a way to be unhappy.

The floor/quests/side characters in this one (I'm about 60% done) are not as interesting, creative, or engaging, imo, as the previous ones. It cracks me up that people want them to re-recors all the parts with the critical drinker and that dinniman claims he didn't know who he was when he signed off on it.

That book was my least favorite of the series as I felt it was just too confusing. The characters are fun but in the end introducing such a crazy system of numbers and lines was a bit much for me.

Better news is the books right after are amazing

Finished book 8. I have to say I enjoyed the last 5% or so of the book. I got into "can't put it down" mode and actually chuckled out loud a few times. I don't think it was nearly on par with the earlier books in the series, and it is probably the worst of the bunch... BUT, the payoff at the end was sufficient that I'm sure I'll read the next one, too. Plus, I think they've all been "Included with Kindle Unlimited" so far, so that helps.

Can someone explain the following to me from Book 8 that I just completed last week? I'm highly confused by this and it feels like a massive plot hole unless I missed something:

Carl and team deliberately sent Lucia Mar out of the dungeon to the Kinder Facility to protect other children. It was discussed in story that they wanted her out of the dungeon because she was unstable and they wanted someone to protect all of the kids? She leaves the dungeon via the vacuum cleaner idea that was discussed for several pages.

But then she just shows up a few pages later right back in the dungeon and it's not addressed or even mentioned by anyone that she's not supposed to be there...as if she never left in the first place.

Correct. Can confirm the original question is mixing up these two.

Lucia Mar and Marium Dom are names that I still have to think about to keep straight.
