Also waiting on a true deluxe leather bound version. Think it'll happen? Surely one of the deluxe outfits would pick it up if given the opportunity, yeah?

He's quite active on the subreddit, so you can ask him there if you'd like. If you don't have an account or prefer not to create one, I can ask on your behalf.

I'm on book 7 (love the series and am gonna die when I finish and have to wait). Have them on kindle. Just noticed limited deal on Amazon via audible (to buy and own, not subscription), and 1-6 are about $5/per (I assume bc I already have kindle version). Says 80-90% off. Got all six audio for $35. Maybe it's always like that, or is this a Black Friday deep discount?

If you buy the Kindle version you can add the Audible audiobook for like $5.

Loved them all. Shout out to DNAC once again for the thread and turning us all on to the series.

You are welcome! I was recommended from one of the other book threads here.

Seen on Reddit: end of book 7 spoilers

So book 8 is definitely just Wacky Races, right?

I finally gave this a try and started the first book. It's no literary masterpiece but that was one of the most wildly entertaining things I've ever read.

Purest form of an awesome popcorn flick that you get to read. I think I burned through this in under a couple days. Look forward to the rest

I finished Carl's Doomsday Scnario and am on to The Dungeon Anarchists Cookbook.

I got to the guest voice, who did a great job (no spoilers).

I have to say Princess Donut is one of my favorite voiced characters of all time. She cracks me up. Jeff Hays is a voice acting wizard!

Finally got pretty much my entire D&D group listening to the series. Which means I'm doing a reread so I can talk to them without giving away spoilers. Oh well.

My best friends wife will now only text him in all caps like donut.

It amuses me that Princess Donut likes the band Oasis.

Is the Audible version the SoundBoothTheater version?

Edit: sounds like it is not after listening to a sample on audible.

No. Audible has sound effects still added in, but sound booth is even higher quality, with multiple voice actors, background music, etc.

This series has definitely altered how I see all caps now. Got this reply from my doctors office this afternoon:

I wish some great design team would make a great DCC sandbox RPG. I'd think you'd just have to create a new player, have that crawler advance through the levels, meet sidekicks and zany monsters, have him cross paths with Carl a few times, etc. I mean, Dinniman created a world based off games, it should be manageable if you could get the right team on it, like Bethesda, Naughty Dog, or someone creatively similar.

Jeff Hays would get guaranteed voice roles, as he should, because hes a genius at voice acting.

The DCC footprint is growing by leaps and bounds. I dont know many "casual" DCC fans. With that following, and it only growing by word of mouth, why not expand into the game world, where the story has its roots, anyway?

All that said, I volunteer my voice acting talents to voice a randy tavern-owner NPC in a medieval Hooters equivalent, with painfully juvenile bawdy puns, with a complex back story with Mordecai, and lots of humorous dialog and a loveable and endearing history.

I can't think of much that would be better than this, if done correctly

Hayes basically reads the AI like Claptrap from Borderlands, which is part of why I love it so much

Finished the third book this morning on the plane. I gotta say I didn't love the third quite as much as the first two. It was a little too complex. I loved the characters and the end was good, but it felt like he was making it confusing just to make it confusing.

Still loving the series and started 4 already.

The post credits scene on audible was hilarious

The books get more complex after the first 2.

The 4th was hard to follow at times because the number of characters are staring to grow.

I am in the process of relistening to them again to be ready for book 7 in February, and will still find myself laughing out loud.

Book 4 mini spoiler:
"I will kill you and i will kill your mother!" cracks me up every time

Book 3 has one of the more complicated levels of the dungeon that is hard to spacially understand without a map. It also starts to build the wider narrative of the series. You'll probably enjoy the rest of the series more.

I think he made the 4th floor (book 3) purposefully over complex to hurt your brain trying to overthink it as some solve to advance. I don't try and understand the design, just sit along for the ride.

Yeah that's what I meant. I just had a hard time following what the heck was actually happening. Enjoying the next book quite a bit so far.

He states in the preface not to get hung up over trying to keep track off everything and understanding the design. He provides a map towards the end although that's not too helpful if you're listening to it not reading.

Even Dinniman has commented that you shouldn't take the time (and do not need to) understand the dynamics of the Iron Tangle. Not required to enjoy the book. I read this before taking the book on and glad I did. Was just a passenger to the story and went with the flow. I actually loved the book and thought it was a unique and needed departure to the story so far. I can see where people would try to make it a puzzle and figure it out thinking it was germane to enjoying the book.

Yeah even not trying to focus on the details book 3 was a little bit of a slog. It had some great moments but the level setup was annoying.

Burning through 4 right now though.

I found Book 1 by accident after listening to (and enjoying) the Noobtown series. It popped up as a recommendation on Audible, so I jumped in and have been avid ever sense.

When Book 7 came out in paperback and there was a 3-4 month gap for the audio book, I couldn't wait and grabbed it. I've spent so much time with the audiobooks at this point that I can hear the characters in my head when I read it. I've been milking it and only have about 50 pages to go and it makes me sad.

Would you recommend the audio book over the print version? I have never listened to a audio book. I just read. and read. and read.

I've read the first 4 books. I listened to the sample audio book which covered maybe the first 50 pages or so of Book 1. I will say the audiobook is entertaining and should be enjoyable if that's the path you start with. I don't plan on switching to the audiobook for the other 3, but you can't go wrong either way. If you enjoy reading, go with that. If you want to listen to it in the car, etc, audiobook.

I will say after reading the books and forming the characters and voices in my head, switching to the audiobook makes the characters sound "not right" because Donut, the AI, etc sound nothing like I imagined.

Edited to say I've never done an audiobook before but apparently this is the gold standard for audiobooks. Just comes down to how you like to enjoy the story.
