I'm currently listening to this podcast about a missing person case of a woman from Nome. I'm constantly thinking of this show as I listen.
You're from down South,
And when you open your mouth,
You always seem to put your foot there.

You never know when that word will be censored. I heard a news report about a black baseball player whose great grandfather played in the "Negro Leagues". No censorship there.

I'm in the middle of season 6. There's definitely a change in tone.

I think we are in Season 3. I'm so glad OP recommended this. I really enjoyed the hunting episode. I thought they did a great job of presenting it well. I was pleased that Fleischman didn't become a hunter but he still recognized the inherent goodness in it. No sane person hunts because they like death.

The episode was helpful to me because I've been struggling with whether to continue to not hunt after hunting for years. Very well done.

Lastly, this show was way ahead of its time. Maybe it was something I "ate" but didn't the show become self aware in one episode?
I wish I was a messenger, and all the news was good. Eddie V.

Yeah, I've been rewatching this every now and then and its reminded me how awesome plus ahead of its time it was. I'll take this show over 90% of what's on these days.

Spot on. Just finished it a couple of months ago. I actually made a list of my favorite episodes so it would be easy to find them for a rewatch.

Its remarkable how much of this show deals with growth and death and moving on, always in an even-handed optimistic way that's sometimes lighthearted and often poignant but never heavy. I'm rememering why this show was appintment viewing for me and my dad.

S5E10 - First Snow - on my rewatch list deals exactly with what you mentioned.

I just finished the entire series after starting in January. I took my time to enjoy every moment of this unique show. Most people would like to exclude Season 6, but it had its moments. I missed Joel for the last half of that season, even though he irritated me for most of the show. He was a good balance to the calm of the rest of the cast.

Season 6 went off the rails a few times, but the whole show did that for the entire run. Jeez, there was a Godfather inspired episode including a hidden Italian restaurant that everyone in town knows about in the Italian section of Cicely? Population 615? And we find out that Holing committed murder in his younger days, but he's forgiven as if it was a minor infraction? ha ha!

Overall.... great show. Chris Stephens was by far my favorite character, and I've come around to thinking Maggie is smoking hot. My favorite scene was season 4, episode 1 where Chris teaches Marilyn to drive. "Driving's kind of like breathing, see, you can't think too much about it. You really look comfortable behind the wheel, Marilyn, that's an important thing, confidence. Confidence, common sense and consciousness. How you feeling?

The song and video highlights that ended the last episode would have brought tears to my eyes if such a thing was possible. I wish I had notes on my favorite moments, so I could go back and watch them.
