We have several TexAgs Influencers participating here, and while my star has waned as a contributor to this board I know many posters and lurkers retain their affection.

My point is that we should set an example for those watching our words - minimal flame wars, detailed analysis, charity, requests for clarification, appreciation of effort-posts.

Since TNNCS and I are allies for alien disclosure, I'm on his "side" …. Yet should there be sides?

The biggest tell that at least a couple people here showed up specifically to start sh*t is that they clearly had no idea who Redstone is, and engaged with him accordingly. That Redstone brought his fastball is just the icing on the cake.

Some of you idiots have the same problem that my 12 year old daughter has.

You have to have the last word.

You can use a message board 2 ways.

To talk about things that you like and enjoy.

or

To argue incessantly with other people about things that neither of you will convince the other is correct.

One of you, some of you, any of you, for the love of God, realize that the other person isn't "winning" if you decide not to respond to their message. You don't have to keep firing back. You're all idiots for doing it.

I assume - based on this thread - that you talking about TCTTS. Perhaps you should address him directly.

Also, since you are lecturing "idiots" on forum etiquette, ad homs are against the TOS. Does that help you?

And if you respond to this post to have the "last word", does that make you an idiot, per your own criteria?

For a seemingly underperforming movie, this thread won't die. Kind of reminds me of Sound of Freedom.

Can't we just discuss the movie and leave the Texags urinal **** measuring threads for F16, or better yet twitter?

Now, what do we make of Howie's absence?

Great review! We saw it this past weekend as a double date night with friends who are local actors/directors, and we all completely loved it. Terrific fun!

Who's your favorite character? Just asking, no ulterior motive at all.

Unlike probably half the people posting in this thread I have actually seen the movie. And found it enjoyable. Sure, it's no masterpiece - but it was exactly what it promised - a fun light action flick. I can definitely see criticism that it's not nearly the same tone as the original fall guy - and I actually think that comes down to the casting of Gosling more than anything. They set out to make a different kind of Fall Guy and it is what it is.

As to why it has underperformed? I do think the economy has a LOT to do with it. Those thinking otherwise are ignorant as to the reality in this country at the moment. People will still go to see a movie out, but it will mostly be for the really big releases. There are other reasons as well, although I think calling out the age of Gosling and Blunt is somewhat silly and imagined.

Would agree with all of this.

We (wife and I) really didn't have any idea what we were in for and hadn't seen any trailer for it. I just knew Gosling was Colt Seevers, so I happened to show my wife the tv show intro and explained that I was a fan as a kid. She thought the references to Farrah Fawcet, Bo Derek, Clint Eastwood, etc were cool. Also told her I had a child crush on Heather Thomas. So she had some limited knowledge of the tv show and she loved the movie.

But yeah, it's no Shawshank (another theater bomb that audiences appreciated later), but it's a fun date movie and even fun for the family.

Don't know Redstone and didn't know TCTTS. I don't live on this board. But I know him now for the thin-skinned narcissist that he is.

It really didn't "underperform"- your best comp is gonna be what- Mr & Mrs Smith at $50M? Gosling and Blunt, as hot as they are, aren't Pitt/Jolie.

The movie was over budgeted- for sure- and that happened before Barbenheimer. That popularity was attached to tracking, on a movie people had no urgency to see, and boom, look what you have.

Film should have been made for $80M max, and then there is no conversation.

Honestly, I think a huge part of box office these days is social media. I think that's an even bigger factor than star power and the stars' ages.

For instance, people like Will Smith and Ryan Reynolds have a pretty big social media presence, and are able to get their movies out there to the younger demo's. I think this will be reflected in the box office for their respective movies. (Deadpool notwithstanding as that has a built-in audience.)

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt may be equally big in terms of being A-List actors, but they don't have social media.

If you replace either actor with someone who was bigger on social media, I think it would've reflected in the box office a lot more. (I've heard some suggestions of JLaw, but I think she just lowers the age demo slightly. She's not on social media either so she doesn't affect Gen Z watchers much.)

I really loved the scene where Blunt was talking about a multi camera focus and then it is just a few minutes discussing the meta story while they are side by side

This is another possibility Matt Belloni mentioned on his podcast that I forgot to list, and I agree 100%.

I know on my end, when working on certain projects with studios, and putting lists together for younger-skewing casts, there have been a couple times when the spreadsheet of actors included nothing but the actor names and how many total social media follows each name has. It's so maddening/depressing, but it can also unfortunately be the reality if you want to properly market your movies/series.

There were definitely some cool/fun sequences like that. I loved that one and the one where she kept having him set him on fire, while they discussed the movie's plot/their relationship.

Yes, I have known about the influence count of social media impact upon cinema casting for quite a while.

Another factor is films about films: if the excellent Hail, Ceasar! performed moderately, what hope do other releases in this genre possess?

Dumb question: is this movie related in any way to the TV show?

Very loosely. A couple of character names are the same, and there are bad guys, but that's about the extent of it.

Saw it tonight and loved it! It almost went too ridiculous at times, but never got corny. Gosling has really found a groove in comedy.

The patented GMC from the tv series makes a scene along with cameo appearances and the theme song at the end. And lots of stunts.

Saw it last night. Thought it was a lot of fun. Not an all-time great but 9 out of 10 for entertainment value to go see in the theater.
I felt like it was purposely tongue-in-cheek and knew it was campy which made it all the more enjoyable.
Soundtrack was great - songs fit perfectly for each scene. Sad to see it's not doing better at the box office.

There is an exception, and I'm surprised you didn't pick up on this.

The key is having an alien in it like Super 8.

Saw it last night in a full theater. Wife and I really enjoyed it. Both of us agreed it's not some all-time classic but a really fun movie we were glad we saw outside of having to pay $30 for 2 tickets to see it.

Now excuse me while I remove this thread from my watchlist.

Dang, I didn't know it was bombing either. Saw it and enjoyed. Probably too big a budget. It's Bullet Train but with a charming romance and twice the budget. Not a recipe for success, really. Like a big action flick without a reliable Statham/Rock or familiar IP attached.

I can't speak for America, but there are two big reasons why I didn't want to see this movie:

1. The Title ("The Fall Guy")
I was a HUGE fan of the TV show as a kid. I even had a "Fall Guy" metal lunch box. In my opinion, if you make a movie about an old TV show, it had better be similar to the original. And the trailer made it clear that it wasn't. Also, the lead actors had better be just as good or better than the orginal, and they absolutely aren't. If they'd called it "The Stuntman" as a previous poster suggested, I would have been more inclined to see it. And even better, making a couple of funny comments about it's similarity to "The Fall Guy" would've made it even funnier. But I'm burned out on the remakes of old shows that are nothing like the originals. It feel like pandering, or bait-and-switch or something.

2. Emily Blunt
I can't stand Emily Blunt. Every movie that she's in is worse because she's in it. There are a hundred actresses I'd rather see in any movie than her. And to make it worse, the role she's playing was originally played by Heather Thomas. For you youngsters, Heather Thomas was one of, if not THE hottest women on the planet during the original run of this show. Whoever the dumbass is that cast Emily Blunt for the Heather Thomas role should be fired and permanenly banned from Hollywood. I haven't seen casting this bad since Kristen Stewart was cast as Snow White.

A quiet Place, Adjustment Bureau and Edge of Tomorrow. She's money in each of them.

Whereas I don't think she made a huge impact on this one, way or the other. But she is nice to look at it

She steals every scene in "Devil Wears Prada" too.

This movie was a summer popcorn movie. Fun stunt sequences and Gosling's charm and charisma make it work.
