Yeah, I'm still not completely counting out those videos being real. I just think he's become the absolute worst ambassador for them.

If anyone has a few hours to burn, may be some more nuggets to glean from this…

Came across it from Reddit. Someone posted some rough notes. I'll grab here in a second.

Had to take screenshots. No copy and paste apparently. Hopefully not too jank. Can't vouch for veracity of these as I have not seen the committee video yet myself.

Honestly not a bad way to test a first response. And China is ALL in on strategic tech. It's maddening how little we seem to care sometimes. They are explicitly developing to weaponize and we just dawdle along like normal with no real urgency aside from normal market pressure.

Drone and quantum computing are the new hotness and China outpaces us significantly on both fronts. Seen estimates that they invest at a minimum 6x spend and personnel on quantum alone compared to us.

You know something about this NJ drone story I find interesting is it isn't exactly creating the firestorm I'd expect.

Most of the info we're getting are from local and state authorities which makes this even more credible imo. I guess I'm just surprised this isn't getting even MORE coverage. This is freaking weird. We've got the FBI admitting we don't know what it is and everyone is just kinda like oh well.

I guess Rogan had that one dude on. Maybe I'm just busier than usual rn and it IS getting a ton of hubbub.

ETA: Why can't we just send a helicopter over there to look at the drones? I don't understand.

No, you are right. Residents there are freaked out but most of the nation seems to be checked out. I think that's just signs of the times. Apathy is rampant I believe. I remember all the memes when all of this starting becoming mainstream a few years ago. "Aliens huh. They gonna help me pay my bills?" and other such sentiments.

Still weird though to me. I think most here will agree that this one feels different. There is so much going on in such a short time frame. It's almost an overload in a way. I honestly I am not even sure what to think myself. The rational side wants to say foreign secret tech, but that same rational side also says there is no real benefit of anyone playing peek a boo with f'ing NJ civilians of all things for weeks on end. MAYBE a show of force? I dunno. We are living in interesting times I believe.

Let play the wild-ass theory game. You know how AI gets things like 90ish percent correct sometimes? A sixth finger. Crap like that? Maybe these drones are secret government shapeshifting tech (i'm imagining the nanobot things from Big Hero 6), there's a government AI they've been training for warfighting that's somehow gotten off the leash, AI is operating these drones outside the parameters of US control, and that's why they are airplane-ish. AI is trying to make them look like airplanes, but it can't get the lights and signatures 100% so they are all a little off. The government won't go after them because (1) they don't want to admit they have this stuff, and (2) they don't know how the AI will respond.

I'm on board. Whether it's human tech or NHI, I've totally been getting that same, A.I./Midjourney vibe, except in physical 3D space. Where it's trying to replicate the real thing, but just feels… off, in that creepy, six-finger/funhouse-mirror/close-but-not-quite-right fashion.

Interesting idea that I don't fully buy, but it would at least explain certain aspects. That said, you'd think we'd have way more covert ways of doing this…

Interesting:

This reminds me of the stories from the end of Summer (that spread thanks in part to Center of a New American Century conference) about US plans to swam the Taiwan strait with drones in the event of a Chinese invasion.
Business Insider may not be the best source, but it's non-paywalled:
https://www.businessinsider.com/china-taiwan-drone-swarms-uav-us-playing-catch-up-production-2024-10

Quote:

Vast fleets of unmanned aerial and naval drones will likely darken the skies and hide beneath waves, bringing with them a deadly threat that Taiwan and its allies are ill-prepared to counter.
There's a lot more about China's numbers advantage in drone production, but

Quote:

"The United States, China, and other states around the world are rapidly aiming to develop autonomous drones that do not need such input. If we can master that technology, electronic warfare will be less central to the drone space," said Kallenborn.

Quote:

"Currently the US and Taiwan do not have sufficient air defenses and CUAS [counter drone] systems to deal with the Chinese drone threat," she said.
Food for thought.

Same idea. Again, it's hard to believe our government couldn't be more covert about it (as opposed to using the most obvious, biggest, brightest drones ever), but whatever…

Something like that would explain the widespread activity over populated areas, the open use of new tech, and the lack of official response. But it raises even more questions. Why are the drones coming in from offshore? Why follow US Coast Guard ships? Most obviously, why are they operating almost only at night?

My biggest problem with the China hypothesis is that this is happening on the Atlantic coast, not the Pacific. China might be capable of developing advanced drone tech, but logistics are still logistics. I'm comfortable dismissing China as the actor here.

This is actually a good idea at this point. From today's C&C blog, which is following the story (emphasis mine):

Quote:

The hearing ended lamely, trailing off without any climax or resolution. The FBI remains baffled. They have no plan. They are hoping the public can tell them what's going on. I'm thinking about calling the tipline and reporting that one of the drones contains the names of 40 as-yet-unarrested January 6th suspects. Maybe that would do it?

I have another idea. Let's offer $10K to anyone who can capture one of the drones. C&C could raise that amount in about ten minutes. Who's with me? If you guys like the idea, I'll make the offer today. Let me know in the comments.

How would they capture something that high up? Use another drone and netgun?

Has anyone else tried to fly a drone up to see what those drones are about?

Yeah, nothing manufactured in China ever ends up on the East Coast.

But there have been drone sightings in other places, not just New Jersey.

Point of the links I posted above, is that the US is definitely ramping up drone development and testing. And we're not the only nation doing so. There's a lot of other meat in the articles. But I would think US tech is the most likely answer. 2nd is a foreign adversary screwing with us. 3rd is that they could be engaging each other.

I'd suggesting reading up on drone warfare development and plans like operation "Hellscape."

Go ahead and tell me what these are if they're not goventment drones conducting some sort of exercise.

Quite a statement here. From Congressman Jefferson Van Drew. NJ Representative. I don't know anything bout this guy. Is he a loon or legit?

TLDR: Alluding these are foreign drones and specifically probably Iranian. Says Iranian drone mothership been missing from port and correlates to sightings timeline (WTF?). Lots of hardline rhetoric. Boils down to we need to quit messing around and shoot these sumbeeches down already.

Agreed. And if there is one thing that I believe the administration would hold secret like NHI, it would be their inability to figure out if it is NHI or not. Nobody likes being caught incompetent. Especially an org with billions in funding and a mandate to literally protect us.

Which brings up another point I've seen cooking around the web and I never really considered. The FBI. The seem to have the lead jurisdiction here but they would have no real expertise or equipment in anything UAS related. Why would they? It's not their forte. UAS would be FAA, Air Force, probably Space Force, and local military commands. Maybe some obscure orgs we don't know about. But a criminal investigative force? Theory elsewhere is that no one knew how to even approach this initially and just came up with someone has to be doing something illegal, ergo, here you go FBI. It's yours now. That has to be at least part of the inefficiency of the response so far, no?

Pentagon press briefing ongoing. Dipping in and out of this topic

https://www.youtube.com/live/Lltd9rhNiEs

I'll update periodically with some notes:

  • These are NOT US military
  • Local LE is investigating (No federal implication?)
  • NOT foreign assets
  • Firmly denied Iranian mothership or drones theory. Absolutely a solid no
  • Once again asked what these are. Cannot even say if these are even drones vs small planes
  • But CAN say no threats to installations or civilians
  • Also says that local military commanders DO have authority and capability to defend their bases if need be. Interesting...
  • Follow up Q of if unable to even identify even what they are how can say if threat or not. Punted again with "initial assessment of no threat" with blank stare like questioner was the one who was stupid.
  • Done

Of the top 5 air forces in the world:
US Air Force (#1)
US Navy (#2)
US Army (#4)
US Marines (#5).

We also have a Coast Guard that routinely combats air and shipborne drug trafficking.
