I'm watching Cheers on Peacock, and Diane Chambers is downright unbearable. The rest of the cast is greatness.
This was only his second film so I think either he missed it or didn't have the budget to go back for reshoots (like one poster stated).DallasTeleAg said:I really don't understand how things like that make it through shooting a movie. Does Linklater just not realize he's doing it all the time while filming? Does he not notice during editing? Is he basically stuck with a few takes of each scene where the actor grabs the bridge of his nose? It really is distracting during the movie.Prosperdick said:Plus he lied about being able to play baseball so when poor Linklater saw him try to pitch he had to hire another actor for the baseball scenes (he learned his lesson and fixed that "glitch" with his film Everybody Wants Some!!).Bruce Almighty said:
Mitch was one nose grab away from me never watching Dazed and Confused again.
But back to your point about his horrible acting as you mentioned with the OCD nose grabbing...Linklater really spit the bit with this casting but because he nailed just about everything else (especially the soundtrack), it remains a classic.

She was pretty good in Night Shift:Capt_Crunch 14 said:AR_Ag95 said:

I was going to second Dolores Umbridge before seeing this comment. Diane is absolutely the worst character of all time and it has to be because Shelley Long is unbearable as a human being because her character in Modern Family is just as bad.

Her sole purpose for existing in life is being a ***** to Doug and making his life miserable.
Look up actors born the same year as Mitch and (1) you'll see about 50 that could have done a better job, especially guys that would fit the 70's pre-stoner role like Danny Masterson, Sean William Scott and Joey Lawrence, (2) you'll have your mind blown that guys like Danny Masterson and Sean William Scott are the same age as Benedict Cumberbatch and Danny McBride.Prosperdick said:This was only his second film so I think either he missed it or didn't have the budget to go back for reshoots (like one poster stated).DallasTeleAg said:I really don't understand how things like that make it through shooting a movie. Also, the way he shot the film was fairly organic. For instance, the Pickford character (the one who originally was hosting the party before his parents found out) was supposed to have a much larger role but the actor was apparently kind of a d-bag and was hooking up so much with Milla Jovovich offset that he basically cost himself a lot of screentime (can you blame him, though).
The biggest change was McConaughey was supposed to have a small role but since he was so captivating on screen Linklater started just coming up with bits to get him into the movie more. Of course you could ask the question "If Linklater could tell Matthew has major star power on screen how did he also miss OCD nose grabber?"
I guess we'll never know unless someone has the balls to ask him.
What was the point of this thread? Oh yeah, villains. I'll throw mine out there, Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the ****oo's Nest. Nicholson was SOOOO damn good in this movie that it makes you hate her with the passion of a thousand suns.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I didn't mind Mitch. With as many great characters as there were, you needed a believable/unforgettable guy that was basically just following the leader and going with the flow.
Also, Linklater must not have hated him too much since he was the main character in Waking Life. Granted that was animated, but they used his likeness.

Jean-Ralphio and Leslie Knope?? How about the guy who ruined the show, that screaming fruitcake Craig?
Also, Carrie Heffernan is still better than Helen Hunt on "Mad About You".
