For all the talk about the "stacked" cast of The Odyssey, I think this one is even better.

Just wait until everyone finds outs Caitlyn Jenner is playing Poison Ivy, though.

Once Stan started "training" for his role in the movie a week ago - literally, announced by his personal trainer with protein shakes, etc - I started wondering why the role of Harvey Dent would require that level of physical commitment, outside of the standard slimming down prep for a normal role or whatever.

Unless, of course... he's not playing Dent.

It *was* odd that this movie has never had a proper action villain (at least in terms of rumors/announcements). We assumed at one point it was Johansson playing either The Phantasm or a more formidable Holiday Killer, but Stan playing the actual villain physically facing off against Batman would make so much more sense.

Pattinson and others have mentioned that the sequel really takes some big swings/chances, which could now conceivably involve Stan playing some kind new hybrid of/take on a (more obscure) villain.

Very interesting.

That's definitely interesting... maybe a slight bummer because Stan seemed like a perfect Dent/Two-Face but I'm certainly intrigued.

My guess - since we all but know the Court of Owls are in this, he's playing a/the Talon. A very physical role which I just realized - is really, really similar to the Winter Solider.

Now we're talking.

I had never heard of Talon before, but yeah, this is super interesting...

Quote:

Talon in the Batman universe refers to a breed of highly skilled, undead assassins employed by the Court of Owls, a secret, centuries-old cabal of Gotham's wealthiest families. The most prominent Talon is William Cobb, a master martial artist and the great-grandfather of Nightwing (Dick Grayson).

If it's actually Talon, re: the on-and-off Robin rumors over the past couple of years, what if Batman kills Talon by the end of the movie, Talon is Grayson's dad/not grandfather, and then Bruce either adopts Grayson, or takes him under his wing (no pun intended), heading into the third movie. Stan is 43 and could easily have a kid in his teens/early 20s.

Not sure why the Talon would need to be bald but the physical training part makes sense. Stan did great as a physical villain in the The Winter Soldier before turning good.

I wonder if the deal will be that Chris Dent and the Court of Owls have groomed Harvey to have a second Talon/assassin personality the conscious Harvey isn't aware of.

That would be another way to work toward his eventual psychotic break and transformation into two-face.

A ripped Harvey Dent? Sounds promising for my theory.

Damn, I totally missed this earlier.

Would absolutely fit the "taking big swings/chances" approach.

Hush would make sense. I still think they shot their load last movie on Hush and combining some of him into Riddler (they even had the word Hush on that picture).

Hush and Court of Owls in one movie would certainly make all the hardcore fans pop... but they're still unknown properties to the majority of moviegoers. I would love it because those are two of the best Batman stories out there... and its cool seeing new villains. But I still think the studios would be hesitant.

But who knows... certainly fun to speculate on.

Hush makes a lot of sense and I agree about them perhaps making a misstep by weaving parts of his story into the Riddler. Looking forward to more coming out, sounds like an incredibly unique take on Batman.

Well, the Talon isn't just one particular bad guy but rather a recurring title bestoyed upon designated bad guys over time. Are they using some variation of that to have him play multiple versions of the Talon over time?
TCTTS

I honestly have no clue. Could be that, or some people are still wondering if it's Hush, or maybe it's some updated/re-conceived version of Two-Face. Who knows?

You definitely need to get a DC Infinite (Ultra tier) trial and read 'The Court of Owls' Omnibus.

Now, before I reveal the character, I'd like to remind you of a few things.

1. I believe someone, somewhere along the way, has said that The Batman Part II would be another serial killer story/murder mystery.

2. Reeves has said that this villain has "never really been done in a movie before." Well, if we've never seen the character on the big screen, I have a feeling that Reeves would've just said that. By saying he's never really been done in a movie before," Reeves seems to be implying that the character has, in fact, been done, and the character I'm about to name did appear briefly in Batman Begins as well as Birds of Prey. He also had a major role in the CW series Gotham.

3. Stan has a shaved head, and he's been bulking up. Ask yourself, why would Stan need to bulk up if he's playing Harvey Dent, and how many well-coiffed district attorneys have shaved heads?

Ladies and gentlemen, I have confirmed with multiple sources that Stan is, in fact, playing serial killer Victor Zsasz.

Zsasz was a wealthy and successful businessman who lost his massive fortune after gambling against the Penguin in a high-stakes game. Devastated by the loss of his wealth and his parents' deaths, he attempts suicide, but when an attacker tries to rob him on the bridge he plans to jump from, Zsasz overpowers the man and kills him. He comes to view the act as a "gift" that spared the man, and he sets out to "free" people who no longer value their lives, much like Jigsaw in the Saw franchise.

The character fits the serial killer description; he has been done in movies before… but not really; and Stan physically looks the part.

So, if he's not Harvey Dent, who is? Is he even in this story?

Well, yes.

I'm told that Brian Tyree Henry will be playing Harvey Dent. He won't be the first Black actor to play Dent in live-action, as Billy Dee Williams played the character in Tim Burton's 1989 movie Batman.

As for Johansson and Dance's roles, my sources have opted to keep them under wraps, though one said they aren't playing big names in the Batman universe, but more like a "meld" of different characters.

Quote:

Meanwhile, I'm also told that the Court of Owls is indeed involved in The Batman Part II. The group is an ancient secret society of criminals that includes some of Gotham City's oldest and wealthiest families, who have controlled Gotham from the shadows for centuries, and enforce their will using a group of deadly assassins known as Talons.

Could Dance be playing the Grandmaster whose family has led and controlled the Court of Owls for generations? Could Johansson be playing his daughter, who dates Bruce Wayne in the comics and stands to take over the organization? Or is that too close to the Sofia Falcone storyline in The Penguin?

I have a feeling that the true identities of Johnson and Dance's characters might hint too much at the story being told here, and it was paramount to both of my sources that the sequel's story not be spoiled, so I'm going to leave it there.

Might be a curveball but that's kind of lame. The ideas we were spinning on this board were way more interesting. Zsasz just doesn't do much for me and is pretty minor. He's not a super villain, just a serial killer.

I'm not as excited as I was hoping to be about this but hopefully they make something that's worth the wait and takes the next step from the first one.
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Yeah, this is the first Batman movie I can remember that doesn't have a notable villain up front, who has an easily identifiable "thing"/name/angle. I guess Batman Begins didn't either in the lead up, but the point of that movie, obviously, was that he was just getting started. Still, it feels super weird to basically have a generic serial killer most people have never heard of (myself included) as the big bad. Then again, maybe he's not *the* big bad, seeing as there's no way Johansson signed on just to play a love interest or whatever. All I know is I trust Reeves to deliver, but it definitely feels like more of a leap of faith now.
Aggie_Journalist
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I hope this is just another misdirection. We've seen so many different things reported to throw us off the scent of what this movie will actually be about. Zsasz as the main villain of a movie would be a waste of a movie when there are so many other great villains to draw from.
CharleyKerfeld

Billy Dee should have played the lead role and the film should have been called Batman Calrissian

I think this is misdirection or Zsasz is just a minor player. Remember that these movies usually have a major and minor villain(s). If they are confirming Court of Owls, then that almost guarantees we are getting a Talon. Would be dumbest move ever to not have the latter and Reeves doesn't seem dumb.

What could be happening here is Court of Owls is alluded to and/or subtle in movie #2 with a Talon not fully in the film until movie #3. Zsasz could be COO's pawn in movie #2.
