Watched last night. Sort of a low budget 80s horror movie, homage with tons of gore. Not great, but not bad either. Ending was too weak to be called a good movie. 3 out of 5 stars (Only if you like low budget horror and gore)

And yes, it was too long

Thanks, I checked out the 1st one. It was a fun flick. Worth the watch.
Look forward to the 2nd one.

Honestly, gore is just gore. At least this short has a neat setup. To me, it's more about the setup. The dread and knowing something will play out and the tension built in execution.

Or this one.

To me this is wildly scarier.

Daughter is neat with the 80s aesthetic, but I though the 1st one you posted was pretty bland.

I tried to start a thread on Horror short films before Halloween and I got zero responses. You're barking up the wrong tree.

Create another thread, I'll definitely contribute to it. This board needs a horror thread regardless how low budget it is.

So after Mike Flanagan hyped Terrifier 2 I decided to give the series a shot. I'm not one for gore, but I absolutely love practical effects. So it's an odd cross-section of... I don't want to see someone chopped up but I like to see the creativity the director/fx guy used to make it realistic. The Thing is my favorite movie of all time for a lot of reasons, but a large portion of them is how incredible the effects were for that era.

So those interested in the movie from that standpoint will find it interesting.

But what I surprisingly came away with... This is honestly the most inspiring new horror movie villain I've seen in decades. David Howard Thornton owns the character in a way I honestly haven't seen since Robert Englund first donned the Freddy Krueger hat. He is absolutely mesmerizing in this without uttering a single word. Mischievous, terrifying... but more than anything downright funny (purposely).

It can be nasty and misogynistic so know that going in. But Thornton's performance is worth it.

I love horror shorts like this!

Of course some are better than others, but just browsing them years ago is how I found the original "Lights Out", which I thought was great. I also found the one about the guy walking at night and the weird prancing man the same way. So much fun!

Count me in!

I didnt want to make a new thread for Terrifier 3 as I didnt think it was a good enough movie to start a new thread about.

It now has 87% critic rating on rotten tomatoes, which I feel like is very high for how poor the movie was.

I mean, I didnt go in expecting an oscar winner here, because the first two were just a creepy/funny clown going around with a trash bag full of murder tools and ultra-gory executions...

if you are wondering, people are walking out because a child is murdered off screen in front of his sister in the first 5 minutes. You hear him say "Juliette, I told you not to come into my roo---and is interrupted by screams and the sound of an axe cutting him to pieces. Later, you are shown his room filled with bloody body parts and viscera. honestly, that was the most disturbing part of the entire movie, not the gore.

They try to tie the movie together with some "story" and "lore" from the first two movies, but it seems like it was just a waste of time. Why even bother? There was basically no story for the other two either so who cares?

Some of the kills were pretty crazy, just like the first two movies - Honestly, I found myself laughing at most of it.

I went to the movies last night with the kids to watch wild robot and had a good time picking out the people as they came through the door who were there to see terrifier.

I've watched the first two. They are generally pretty garbage but they intrigue me. I'll watch t3 when it comes to streaming I am sure.

I've read about a little bit of it and seems like they are really pushing the boundaries of what I would not want to see.

The story has never made any sense at all. I couldn't imagine this one adding any kind of story to the 2nd one that made that one any less of a confusing mess.

There's a certain subset of people that really enjoy gore films.

But the reason these movies are getting a lot of critical acclaim are the practical effects and the acting by Thornton. They are both extremely impressive.

I'm not a gore guy, and I tend to not like any kind of torture type scenes (though surprisingly a movie like Hostel gets a bad rap -- it's really not a bad film when you remove the torture). But I will stand by my claims that Thornton's performance as Art has made him the most iconic horror villain since Freddy Krueger. He absolutely owns the role.

I'd agree with that. Gore doesn't typically bother me but terrifier is pushing those limits. I enjoy seeing the creativity even if it is gross. Same reason I always liked the saw movies even if they aren't great.

Art is terrifying and that actor really does own it.

I'll agree with you here. His portrayal of Art the Clown is great. It's an intense balance of sociopathy and violence with silliness. That's what kind of drew me to the first two. I thought it was funny and over the top.

Gore, violence, jump scares, nothing really bother me. I've even heard of people turning off movies because of rape scenes that they felt were too realistic. I get how they were disturbing and hit too close to home...

But the murder of the kid to me was really disturbing. I didn't leave and watched the rest of the movie fine, but it just felt like too much.

But maybe that was the point. For such a pointless and dumb movie (and again, I got exactly what I expected) it felt like it was just doing to to be controversial.

Mission accomplished, i suppose

Well, at least you were able to watch The Wild Robot with your kids. That was a fun experience.

Well the family had plans tonight and the dad of the other family we were going to hang out with was sick, so I got a free evening. Just got home from seeing it. Good. Lord.

Definitely pushed the limits of what can be shown I think. I'm honestly surprised that was rated R. The story still makes almost no sense but it was more interesting than the second one to me.

Looks like it is going to be number 1 at the box office which is absolutely insane. I'm kind of embarrassed to be part of that.

My theater was about half full for a Sunday evening showing. Out of about 50 people, about half were under 20ish. About half of those were probably under 15, and about 5 kids younger than 10. That's damn near child abuse. I could not imagine taking my kids to that movie.

This reminds me of the families who brought their toddlers with them to see Civil War on opening night because babysitters are expensive I guess. They earned every disapproving look they received lol

I need to go so see this.
The story in T2 was so bad, so surely this can't be worse lol

IMO the story wasn't as bad as T2 was. That one made no sense to me at all.

This one expands that one and gives a tiny bit of backstory and explanation but not a ton. It's a better story than T2 though.

thought id share a story regarding terrifier 3 that i thought fans of this series would find funny...

was watching an online reviewer give his take on terrifier 3 and his theater when watching it was PACKED.....and he's assuming there were people there that brought friends to see it that maybe hadn't seen the first two films....

he notices a guy near him during a scene where someone is killed in an attic (i haven't seen any of these films)...and this guy he can tell has this very odd look on his face while the scene is going on......well...the scene ends and the theater is deathly quiet...and then you here this confused guy who is about to confirm he hasn't seen the first two films exclaim quite loudly, "WHAT THE **** AM I WATCHING?????"

and the whole theater just explodes with laughter!

My 16 year old went with friends on Saturday. One of the moms went with them to buy the tickets since it's Rated R.

That mom called my wife the next day to profusely apologize. She had no idea that slasher movies were at this level of depravity I guess. I asked my son about it and he said he felt like he really needed to go to church. LOL.

Yeah...that scene is pretty gross. Understandable reaction. I've seen all three and had the same thought....
